Principles of Tort: Introduction of Torts connected with organisation and occupation of land, notions of trespass, nuisance and negligence. Principles of Contract.

Principles of Contract: Formation of contracts, capacity of parties, mistake and misrepresentation, non-disclosure and fraud, breach of contract, guarantee and warranty. Applications of principles through conditions and practices of building and Civil Engineering Contracts involving comprehensive study of the Conditions of Contract in use in Ghana. Daylight: Illumination and principles, definition and standards, Inverse Square and Cosine Law. Shading/Anti glove devices, insulation and heat gain.

Artificial Lighting: Illumination and principles, specific examples schools, hospitals, laboratories- public roads and municipal projects, energy resource and consumption.

Installations: Conduit cables and switches fittings, distribution services, symbols and codes-production drawings-systems.

Electrical Systems: A/C and D/C currents 1 and 3 phase, origin of power source and heavy current distribution.

Electrical Systems: Further principles of generation and transmission, circuit breakers, fuses, etc. Safety precautions and regulations, earthing technique and soil conditions, lighting conductors, installations.

Mechanical Ventilation and Air Conditioning: Requirements of various building types, principles of air flow and methods, single units and central systems, zoning controls. Distribution systems, ducting, materials and installation. Control factors for heat gain, frictional resistance condensation, voltage drop.

Lifts and Escalators: Function, design criteria, by pass and direct systems, lift well, motor rooms passenger and goods lifts, fire precautions.

BT 365 COMPUTER METHODS 1 2 Credits pre-requisite

Introductory course in programming using algorithmic language. Simple program statements including input operations transfer of control, simple counters and operations with simple subscripted variables. Number systems and flow charting techniques. The primary objective is the understanding of programming theory, application and organization of simple data processing methods.

BT 366 COMPUTER METHODS 2 2 Credits pre-requisite

A survey of applied numerical methods in building and civil engineering problems. Specific application includes design of columns, evaluation of roots of simultaneous and polynomial equations using successive approximation and the Newton-Raphson methods, determination of volumes of Excavation using the trapezoidal and the Simpsons rule. Case study problems will be solved on computer using the FORTRAN VI programming language.
