    Preface

This book is a supplement to my eBook, Trumbauer/Trumbore Descendants, published online inDecember 2012 on the Scribd website. As a result of that publication, I have had numerouscontacts with those who have read my book.

My connection with the Trumbores is with Anna May Trumbore, my maternal grandmother. Shewas a daughter of Henry K. Trumbore and Caroline Druckenmiller, also spelled Truckenmiller.Anna May died at age 44 in 1925. Because of her early death, the only direct descendant ofHenry Trumbore I ever met was Ruth Trumbore, his niece. Before researching this family, Iknew very little about the Trumbores.

When Anna May Trumbore died in 1925, my mother, Grace (nee Boyer)-the youngest of sixchildren, was 12 years old. Her father decided that she leave his home and live with relatives.Over the next seven years, she lived with a number of different relatives, some of whom she didnot know or remember. Her public schooling during this period was very "spotty." Chapter 6,Anna May Trumbore, discusses my attempt to find the "missing years" of Anna's children, including her daughter and my mother, Grace.

Because I had limited knowledge of the Trumbore, I was excited to receive two contacts in April2014 who informed me they were related to the Trumbore family. One contact, Marilyn (neeEgolf) Rocky provided information regarding her grandmother, Ella Florence (nee Trumbore)Egolf. Her Egolf genealogy is included in Chapters 2 and 3.

After researching her information, I confirmed that Ella Trumbore was a sister to mygrandmother, Anna May Trumbore. Ella and Anna are both daughters of Henry KoffelTrumbore and Caroline Druckenmiller/Truckenmiller.

Marilyn provided me with the genealogy of Ella Trumbore who married James W. Egolf. TheEgolf genealogy is included in this supplement. Marilyn also provided copies of familypictures, including a 1897 picture of Henry and Caroline Trumbore. Her pictures are also

    included in this supplement.

Another contact, Sherry Lou Doty, informed me that her grandmother was Pearl EstherTrumbore. She noted that (from my previous research) I had a daughter of Henry and CarolineTrumbore listed as Esther P. Trumbore, my great aunt.

Further research confirmed that her grandmother, Pearl Esther Trumbore, was, in fact, myEsther P. Trumbore. Esther Pearl is a sister to my grandmother, Anna May Trumbore. Sherryprovided the genealogy of Pearl Esther Trumbore who married William C. Barrett. Hergenealogy of the Barrett family is included in this supplement in Chapters 4 and 5.

This supplement is limited to the descendants of Henry Koffel Trumbore that includes this new

information. A listing of his descendants that I have identified to date (except those deleted atthe request of certain of his descendants) are included in the genealogy report beginning onpage 44.

    Genealogy Report Format

The genealogy report at the end of this supplement is a descendantsreport, beginning with Henry Koffel Trumbore. His entry begins on page44, Generation 1. The number 1 precedes his name on the report.

Under some names in the report, I have added a series of 'Notes" to betterexplain the genealogy. I have not added notes to all individuals in thegenealogy report.

The 12 children of Henry Koffel Trumbore and his wife, CarolineDruckenmiller, are shown beginning on page 44. All of these childrenhave a number preceding their name. Those children who have a numberpreceded by a plus sign (+) have children who represent the nextgeneration and will appear in later pages of the genealogy report. For

example, Anna May Trumbore has a number +7 preceding her name. Annawill appear again on page 47 with her husband and a listing of herchildren. Children without a plus sign preceding their number of theirname will not appear on subsequent pages of the genealogy report.

Using the example for Anna May Trumbore, she appears on page 47,Generation 2. Under her name and that of her husband, Robert EmeryBoyer, is a listing of her seven children who represent the nextgeneration, Generation 3. Three of the seven children have a plus sign

number preceding their name and will appear on subsequent pages of thegenealogy report.

Continuing with this example, one of the three children is Robert EarlBoyer, number +27. His family appears on page 57. He and his wife,Gertrude LaBarre, represent the fourth generation. Their two children,Robert (No. +77) and Constance (No. +78) Boyer, represent Generation 5.

Robert Paul Boyer (No. +77) and his family is listed on page 61. Their threechildren, Bradley, Robert and Corrine, represent the 5th and final

    generation for this genealogy report.

Following the genealogy report is an alphabetical index of all of theindividuals in the genealogy report.

On the next page is an obituary for Henry K. Trumbore. It was publishedon 30 January 1931 in the Souderton Independent newspaper. Theobituary states that Henry enlisted in the Civil War at age 16 in 1863. Hismilitary record, however, has his enlistment date as 14 March 1865. Acopy of his military record is shown on page 16 of this chapter. Since

Henry volunteered for one year as noted in his record, I believe theenlistment date in his military record is the correct date.

    Chapter 2. Ella Florence Trumbore

    8. Ella Florence Trumbore was born in Perkasie, Bucks County,PA on 8 March 1883. In my original Trumbore publication, I hadno knowledge if she married or when she died.

In April of 2014, I received an email from Marilyn (nee Egolf)Rocky from Little Silver, New Jersey. She discovered myTrumbore connection through my Facebook page.

Marilyn informed me that Ella Trumbore was her grandmother. Iwas extremely interested as Ella Florence was a sister of AnnaMay, my maternal grandmother. Marilyn said Ella had married

    James William Egolf.

Subsequently, I found their marriage license issued 2 January1905. It was filed at Doylestown, Bucks Co., PA, Book No. 30, Vol.29. The marriage application listed James William Egolf's parentsas Ananias and Lucy Egolf, with the notation-"both living." Theparents of Ella Florence Trumbore were listed as Henry andCaroline Trumbore.

The application recorded James, age 23, living in New Brunswick,NJ and Ella, age 21, living in Perkasie, PA. James's occupationwas "Farmer." I could not decipher Ella's occupation on thelicense; however, recorded in the 1900 Census, her occupationwas "Cigar Maker."

The certificate of marriage certified that James and Ella weremarried on 14 January 1905 at Perkasie, Bucks Co., PA. The

marriage was performed by Rev. Henry Wentz.

    8. Ella Florence Trumbore and James William Egolf

As discussed earlier in this chapter, James William Egolf was a son ofAnanias Egolf and Lucy Ann Stoneback. James William married Ella

Trumbore in1905 and had five children, including James Garner, as listedon pages 48 and 49 of the genealogy report. The oldest child was Ethelwho married but had no issue. Two children, John H. and Lucy C. died atvery young ages. The last child was Evelyn.

Following is a picture of James and his oldest sister, Ethel. I estimate herage about ten years and the picture taken in 1916. I see a resemblance ofEthel's face to that of my mother, Grace (nee Boyer) Gretzinger-daughterof Anna May Trumbore and Robert Boyer, at that age (see photo page 44).

    32. James Garner Egolf graduated in 1936 from the law school at theUniversity of Newark (now Rutgers University). His graduation pictureappears below. Some Trumbore descendants noted James's resemblanceto Paul Henry Boyer whose mother was Anna Trumbore, a sibling to JamesWilliam's wife, Ella Florence Trumbore.

James Garner married Lillian Walsh, an attorney in New York, in 1940. Hepracticed law in Rahway and was prominent in politics since 1947. Jameswas mayor of Rahway, NJ from 1950 to 1952, and after a charter change, served a four year term from 1954 to his death on 5 January 1959.

Lillian Walsh, the wife of James Egolf, are shown in the picture on the nextpage. It was taken in the late 1930s in Metuchen, NJ. Their daughter,Marilyn, mentioned her mother in an email that I copied in part below.

"Yes, my mother was attractive, talented, brilliant. She graduated from high school when she

was 11 years old. She graduated from college when she was 18 and law school when she was

    21. By 22 she was a partner in a NY law firm at 11 West 42nd. Street, right across from Bryant

Park and the library. She sang and danced in a number of venues as a child. She could play the

piano by the time she was 4 years old. In spite of all of the above, she was a delightful and

compassionate person. My father waited around for a number of years while she finished both

college and law school and started her career in New York before they got married. In the

meantime, he went to law school to fill in the time! She is very missed. If looks counted for

votes, she would have won a congressional seat in 1962!!!"

Lillian Walsh Egolf ran for Congress to represent the 6th District in UnionCounty, NJ. She ran against the incumbent, Rep. Florence P. Dwyer.

    Chapter 4. Esther Pearl Trumbore

    13. Ester Pearl Trumbore was born on 11 March 1896 in Perkasie, BucksCounty, PA. Based on an interview I had in 1996 with Ruth Trumbore,Ella's niece, Ruth said Esther had married a Reese. I had no additional

    information about Esther.

On Easter Sunday 2014, I received a voice mail message from Sherry Lou(nee Barrett) Doty from Cody, Wyoming. Sherry said she was related to theTrumbore family. I later returned her call, and she informed me that EstherPearl (a.k.a Pearl Esther) was her grandmother who married William C.Barrett.

Over the next few weeks, we exchanged family history. Sherry informedme that her father's birth certificate listed his mother as Esther Trumbore.

Sherry also stated that her grandfather, William C. Barrett was buried atArlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.

As I researched Esther's family, I found her obituary in the SoudertonIndependent newspaper. A copy follows below.

    Souderton Independent obituaries 1922-1927

Decedent s name PEARL ESTHER BARRETT

Date published Friday, July 22, 1927

PEARL ESTHER (NEE TRUMBORE), WIFE OF WILLIAM C. BARRETT,

passed away at the Harriman Hospital, Bristol, last Friday afternoon about

4:30 oclock. Aged 31 years and 4 months. Mrs. Barrett suffered an attack of

pleurisy three months ago and since then had been in failing health,

meningitis being an additional cause of death. She was a daughter of Henry

Trumbore of Perkasie, and previous to her marriage resided in that North

    Penn town.

Besides the parents, she is survived by her husband and three sons-William

Jr., Robert and John. The latter is three weeks old, one of twins born on June

27th, the other a girl, passing away a week after birth. The following brothers

and sisters also survive-George Trumbore of Emmaus; Victor Trumbore of

Perkasie; Russell Trumbore of Souderton; Minnie, wife of Allen Landis of

Souderton; Nellie, wife of Fred Burgess of Telford; Ella, wife of James Egolf

Souderton; Nellie, wife of Fred Burgess of Telford; Ella, wife of James Egolf

of Metuchen, NJ; Mabel, wife of William Texter and Carrie, wife of Allen Harr

of Perkasie. Services were held on Monday afternoon from the home of Mr.

Barretts parents, Mr. and Mrs. William E. Barrett, at Edgely. Interment was

made in the Baptist church cemetery at Tullytown.

Obituary donated by Thomas G. Myers

Sherry confirmed that her father had a brother, William, and her father'sname was John (a.k.a. Jack), born a few weeks before his mother died.

The obituary listed a surviving son named John three weeks old makinghis birth 27 June 1927. Sherry said that her father's given name becameJack in memory of his twin sister, Jacquline, who died in childbirth.

    William Creswell Barrett

Based on cemetery records,Esther's husband, William Creswell Barrett, was born on 1 October 1900. The Bucks County birth records, however, recorded his birth as 21 October 1897. A copy of the record follows.

    Child's name Barrett, William C.

Birth date 10/21/1897 Birth place Tullytown Boro

    Mother's name Ella B. Barrett

    Residence Tullytown Boro

    Date recorded 12/16/1897

    Source Bucks County Births, 1893-1907

I believe that William's birth date was incorectly inscribed on the tombstone..

After Esther's death, William remarried. Sherry mentioned that shethought the second wife's first name was Ilene or Irene. In the 1940Census for Reading, Berks Co., PA, I found a William Barrett age 39 andIrene Barrett age 35. Based on his age in 1940, William's birth year would

    33

  • 8/11/2019 Descendants of Henry Koffel Trumbore

    32/76

be about 1900 which agrees with the birth date I found in the cemeteryrecords.

This census did not list any children living with William and Irene. In 1940,William's three sons ages would be: 22 years old (William, Jr.), 19 yearsold (Robert E.) and 13 years old John/Jack. Chapter 5 discusses the three

children. There was a second obituary for Ester Trumbore published in BucksCounty Intelligencer on 21 July 1927 that recorded her husband wasWilliam Creswell Barrett. In many instances, the son's middle name, inthis case Creswell, was the mother's maiden name. I believe, therefore, that William's mother was a Creswell.

I attempted to research this surname, but could find no connection to theBarrett family line. Thus, my assumption that William's mother was aCreswell could not be proven.

As I mentioned above, Sherry said her grandfather, William C. Barrett, wasburied at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. I accessed theArlington National Cemetery website and found William's gave site. Thewebsite provides a link to view and print a copy of the grave stone. Apicture of his grave stone is shown on page 36. William is buried inSection 13, Grave 7432-C.

As noted on the grave stone, he served in both WW I and WW II. He was acorporal assigned to Company A, 109th Regiment, 28th Infantry Division. In WW II, my father also served in the 28th Infantry Division, 109th

Regiment, but in Company I. William served in Company A. I doubt ifWilliam and my father ever met or knew each other, but it is conceivablethat their paths crossed as they both served in the 109th Regiment.

One opportunity for their paths to cross was the military parade in Colmar,France. In 1944, about 50,000 Germans occupied the "Colmar Pocket"because it was a key transportation center. The US 28th Division with theFrench 1st Army were assigned to liberate Colmar. At 3 AM on 2 February1945, Company I of the 109th was the first unit to reach Colmar. Bynightfall, the city of 40,000 was liberated. Allied losses of only 125

casualties were low because the night offensive completely surprised theenemy.

A victory celebration took place on Wednesday 8 February 1945. The109th Regiment was chosen to lead a parade through Colmar withCompany I in the lead. Since all of the 109th Companies participated in theparade, my dad, from Company I, and William Barrett, from Company A,were in that parade.

William C. Barrett was the husband of my great aunt, Esther PearlTrumbore. Her obituary published in the Bucks County Intelligencer statedthat the family moved to Bristol, located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, in1926. Prior to that date, William and Esther lived in Edgley, a small town

located three miles northeast of Bristol. Thus, the eldest sons, William, Jr.born in 1918 and Robert E. born in 1921 were born in Edgley, PA. John(later Jack) born in 1927 was born in Bristol.

Based on this genealogy, John (Jack) Barrett is my 1st cousin onceremoved and his daughter, Sherry Lou Barrett is my 2nd cousin.

The family is listed in the Descendants of Henry Koffel Trumboregenealogy report that begins on page 45.

    Chapter 5. The Barrett Family

    William E. Barrett Genealogy

The 1900 Census for Bristol Township, Tullytown Borough, PA listed

William Barrett, born November 1862, his wife, Ellen Barrett, born June1867 and three children: Clara R. born August 1886, Walton S. born June1892 and William C. born October 1897.

The Tullytown Cemetery tombstone records lists the names of eightBarretts. The parents listed are William, died 1906 and Ella died 1906.There is a listing for Francis and Francis L. both with a death date of 1906.I believe these two are the same person and a son of William and Ella.

Also listed is another son, William E. Barrett who died in 1950 and his wife,

Ella, who died in 1935. William E. and Ella are the parents of William C.Barrett who was born October 1897.

William C. and Esther Pearl (nee Trumbore) Barett, Sr.

The Tullytown cemetery records include a listing for Esther Barrett whodied in 1927. She is the wife of William C. Barrett who was born October1897 as noted above. Esther's maiden name was Trumbore, the daughterof Henry and Caroline Trumbore.

The eighth Barrett listed in the Tullytown Cemetery records is Jacqueline, the daughter of William C. Barrett and Esther Pearl Trumbore.Jacqueline's death was recorded as 1927. She is discussed in thefollowing paragraph for John (Jack) Barrett, number 71 in the genealogyreport.

The Sons of William C. Barrett, Sr. and Esther Pearl Trumbore

    68. William C. Barrett, Jr.William was born about 1918. As noted earlier, his mother died in 1927when he was 11 years old. His father, William C. Sr., remarried before 1930and relocated to Berks County, PA. William, Sr. and his new wife, Irene, are listed in the 1940 Census. No children were listed.

The 1930 Census for Bristol, PA recorded William C. Barrett, Jr. age 11

living with William E. and Ella Barrett. William C., Jr. was listed as agrandson. Based on the census records, William C. Jr. went to live withhis grandfather, William E. Barrett, after his mother died and his fatherremarried and relocated to Berks Co., PA.

    69. Robert E. Barrett

In 1930, Robert E. was about 9 years of age, but he was not living with hisgrandfather. However, in the 1940 Census, I found a Robert E. Barrett inthe military at Schofield Barracks, Honolulu, Hawaii. He was a private inthe US Army, 13th Field Artillery. His age was 19 years. I believe that Pvt.Robert E. Barrett was the son of William C. Barrett, Sr. He was dischargedas a Sergeant.

It is interesting to speculate if Robert was at this post when Japanattacked Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941.

Robert married Theresa A. Brickel and both are buried at Gethsemane

    Cemetery, Laureldale, Berks County, PA

    71. Jack (born John) Barrett & Dorothy Dorman

John was born on 28 June 1927, a few weeks before his mother, EstherPearl Trumbore, died 15 July 1927. John had a twin sister, Jacqueline, who died in childbirth. John's daughter, Sherry (nee Barrett) Doty said herfather was called Jack in memory of his deceased twin sister and laterlegally changed his given name to Jack. Jacqueline and her mother,Esther, are buried at the Tullytown Cemetery in Tullytown borough, BucksCounty, PA

The 1930 Census lists John Barrett, age 2 years, living in the household ofWilliam E. and Ella Barrett, his grandparents. He was listed as "adoptedson." Sherry informed me that John's grandparents did adopt John/Jackas their son.

Jack Barrett married Dorothy V. Dorman who was born in Mohnton, BerksCo., PA on 20 January 1926. They had a daughter, Sherry Lou, who wasraised in Reading.

Dorothy died on 20 May 1990 in Reading and was buried in Forest Hills

Memorial Park, Reiffton, Berks Co., PA. She was 64 years of age. Herhusband, Jack, followed her four years later and died at age 67 years on 7January 1994. He also was buried at Forest Hills Memorial Park.

    Chapter 6. Anna May Trumbore

    7. Anna May Trumbore

Anna May was the fifth child of Henry and Caroline Trumbore. She was

born in Perkasie, Bucks County, PA on 11 February 1881. She marriedRobert Emery Boyer in 1904 when she was 21 years old.

The 1910 Census reported that Anna and her husband and two children,Mabel and Earl, lived in a rented home on South Hellertown Ave.,Quakertown, PA. This census also reported that a third child had diedprior to 1910. The next census in 1920 reported the births of threeadditional children, Jeanette, Paul and Grace, my mother.

The Boyer family relocated to a home in the lower end of Quakertown,

known as "Fairview." This house is no longer standing. My mothershowed us the location of the house and described the interior. It had akitchen, dining room, and three bedrooms and was heated by a largepotbelly stove fueled by wood and coal. There was no electricity; oil lightswere used for lighting. The family raised chicken, ducks and geese.

The house had a basement where my mother's father used to make liquorduring prohibition (the prohibition era lasted from 1920 through 1933). Mymother recalled that one of her father's customers for the illegal liquor was

the family doctor. On one occasion, her father was arrested for makingillegal liquor, but the judge did not send him to jail. Instead, they went tothe judge's home for a weekend of "drinking."

My mother also recalled that her mother, Anna May, played the organ at achurch in Quakertown. She said the church was no longer standing, butthought it was located around 9th or 10th Street.

On Friday, 21 August 1925, Anna May died at the age of 41 years. She wasburied at St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Quakertown. I attempted

to obtain her death certificate but was advised by the Pennsylvania Bureauof Vital Statistics that her death was not recorded in their files. Thus, I donot know the cause of Anna's death and my mother could not rememberhow she died.

Anna's surviving children were Mabel (age 20), Robert Earl (age 18),

    41

  • 8/11/2019 Descendants of Henry Koffel Trumbore

    40/76

Jeanette (age 15), Paul Henry (age 13) and Grace (age 12).

    The Missing Years

With the death of Anna in 1925, three of the children were under age 16. One ofthe three was my mother, Grace. She said that her father decided that sheshould leave his home and live with relatives. My mother could not rememberthe names of any of those relatives she lived with, and added that some she hadnever met before.

I attempted to find where my mother had lived from late 1925 until she marriedin June 1932, I began my search with her father, Robert Emery Boyer, bylooking at the 1930 Census. The only widower named Robert Boyer listed wasborn about 1882, was living alone and resided in Harrisburg, PA. The birth datefits fairly well (Robert Emery was born August 1883), he was a widower, but helived in Harrisburg. Because of the location, I do not believe this is my mother's

    father.

Robert Emery's son, Robert Earl, was married in 1933 and Robert Emery went tolive with his son in a home off Broad Street in Quakertown. My mother said shedid not go to live with her brother after he was married. I attempted to find herbrother, Robert Earl, before he married in 1933 in the 1930 Census. I could notlocate a Robert Earl Boyer or Earl Boyer whose father was Robert Boyer in the1930 Census.

My next attempt was to find Jeanette Boyer, my mother's sister. Jeanette was

15 years old when her mother died. I was unable to locate her in the 1930Census when she would have been 20. She married William J. Darrah, but Ihave not been able to find the marriage date. Assuming she was not married in1930, I could not locate Jeanette Boyer in the 1930 Census. If she was marriedon or before 1930, I could not find a Jeanette Darrah. She and William Darrahwere, however, in the 1940 Census in Quakertown as husband and wife. Theywere probably married after 1930. No children were in this household.

Another of my mother's siblings, Paul Henry, was 13 when his mother died. Icould not locate a Paul Boyer in the 1930 Census.

I have concluded that my mother did not live with her father or any of hersiblings in the time period from August 1925 through 1930.

The next possibility was that my mother went to live with one of her mother'ssiblings. I immediately eliminated her Aunt Emma Rosanna as she died in 1888.I also eliminated her Aunt Minerva who married Allen Landis and lived in

    42

  • 8/11/2019 Descendants of Henry Koffel Trumbore

    41/76

Souderton, Montgomery County, PA as I found no children in their household.

My mother's Uncle George Washington Trumbore married Minnie (nee unknown)and lived in Emmaus, Lehigh County, PA. They had five children between 1917and 1922, and my mother, Grace, was not in their household.

Her aunts, Ella Florence and Esther Pearl Trumbore, I also eliminated as theyare the main subjects of this supplement. There is no evidence that my motherlived in either of their households.

I also eliminated her Uncle Victor J. Trumbore because Victor's daughter, Ruth, knew my mother and my mother knew her. I am positive my mother would haveremembered living in Victor's household.

Aunt Kathryn (Katie) M. Trumbore married Willis D. Reichard (a copy of the

marriage registration is included in the genealogy report). There is a William H.and Katie Richards in the 1910 Census for Allentown, Lehigh County, PA withtwo children, Frances and Catherine. No Grace in this household. I found noWillis D. Reichard/Richards in the census records.

As for her Aunt Carrie A. Trumbore, she was married twice, first to Allen Harrand second to William J. Kallensee. From these two marriages I found threechildren, but neither of the households listed a Grace.

Her Uncle Russell Joseph Trumbore also married twice. The first marriage to

Stella H. Allebach produced six children born between 1913 and 1920. Thesecond marriage to Emma S. Blank, produced seven children born between 1925and 1936. There was no Grace in either of these households.

The remaining immediate relative is Aunt Nellie G. Trumbore. She married FredA. Burgess and in the 1920 Census lived in West Telford, Montgomery Co., PA.They had three children including Grace N. Burgess born about 1913. Grace N.was listed as a daughter. Since Grace N. was living in this household in 1920, Iconclude it was not my mother, Grace Boyer., as she was still with her parents,Robert and Anna, in 1920.

My final attempt to locate my mother in 1930 was to do a global search of thecensus records for a Grace Boyer, whose father was Robert, in all US States. There were zero hits.

Another almost logical alternative was that after Anna's death, her husbandmaintained the home until at least 1930. He and his children may lived together

    43

    42/76

from 1925 to 1930 and were missed by the 1930 Census. My mother, Grace, however was sent to live with relatives sometime between 1925 and 1932. Shemarried in 1932 and his son, Robert Earl, married in 1933. Robert Emery went tolive with his married son in 1933. That left the daughter, Jeanette. In 1930 shewas 20 years old and may have married by that time. I have not been able tolocate her marriage record. My mother's "missing years" continue to be a

    family mystery.

The 1940 Census for Souderton, Montgomery Co., PA shows C.Leon Trumbore, age 25, living in the household of Penrose H. andMaratha Hunsberger. C. Leon Trumbore is listed as a son to theHead of the household.

I think this is in error. I believe this is Clyde Leon Trumbore, born1/27/1915, the son of Russell Joseph Trumbore and Stella Allebach.Stella died in 1920 and Russell remarried to Mamie Blank and hadseven more children. After his mother's death, I believe Clyde lefthome and in 1940 was boarding with Penrose Hunsberger.

"Mrs. William Creswell Barrett died Friday afternoon, July 15, after an illness ofthree weeks. The deceased was before her marriage Miss Pearl EstherTrimbone, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Trimbone, Perkasie. After living inEdgely for a few years Mr. and Mrs. Barrett moved to Bristol about one year ago, where they had since made their home. The deceased is survived by her

husband and parents, three sons, William Jr., 9 years, Robert E., 6 years, andJohn six weeks old. Several brothers and sisters survive."

I am convinced that Pearl Esther Trimbone in this obit is, in fact, Esther P.Trumbore, born 3/11/1896 in Perkasie. Esther was the daughter of Henry andCaroline Trumbore of Perkasie. The obit misspelled her maiden name.

The obit states that her parents survived her. Esther died in 1927, and based onmy previous research, her father died in 1931 and her mother died in 1928. Inaddition, the obit says Esther was also survived by several brothers and sisters.Based on my previous research, the siblings who died after 1927 were:

    Nellie (d. 1964), Ella (d. 1934), Mabel (d. 1964) Russell (d. 1960) and Victor (d.1958).

There was another obit in the Souderton Independent that confirms the above.

Decedent's name PEARL ESTHER BARRETTDate published Friday, July 22, 1927Text of obituary: PEARL ESTHER (NEE TRUMBORE), WIFE OF WILLIAM C.BARRETT, passed away at the Harriman Hospital, Bristol, last Friday afternoonabout 4:30 oclock. Notes for William (Cpl) Creswell Barrett Sr.:

Ruth Trumbore incorrectly identified the surname as Reese. Based on deathrecords and his granddaughter, Sherry Lou (nee Barrett) Doty, it was Barrett.

Sherry Lou in an email identified her grandfather as William C. Barrett and wasburied at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.

I accessed the Arlington cemetery and found Cpl. William C. Barrett was buriedthere in Section 13, Grave 7432-C. A picture of his tombstone on the websiteshowed he served in the US Army in both WW I and WW II. He was assigned tothe 28th Infantry Division, 109th Regiment, Co. A.

Of interest (especially to me) was his military assignment. My father, Wilmer H.Gretzinger, served in WW II and was assigned to the same 28th InfantryDivision, 109th Regiment, but was in Co. I. I doubt that my father ever knewWilliam, but I will probably never learn if they had meet or knew each other.

There is a difference in the birth dates. The tombstone in Arlington has the birthas 10/1/1900. The Bucks Co. birth registration (see below) has the birth as10/21/1897.
