Where ideas happen DEC SITE PLAN The following slide is a plan site view of the Derwent Entertainment Centre and surrounds.
Please note the entry and exits from the Brooker Highway. This is the main access route to the Derwent Entertainment Centre.
Please note the location of the rear compound and security gate.
All hirers, performers and volunteer's are required to park in the Red Carpark unless they are dropping off equipment, supplies or personnel. Once you have dropped of equipment you must park in the Red Carpark. Prop drop off and collection is ONLY permitted during the time allocated by the STDE Committee. The security gate will be CLOSED at all times during the event to ensure the safety of all participants.

Glenorchy City Council and the Derwent Entertainment Centre follow the
Safety Circle Philosophy.
All DEC workers have agreed to:
• Follow standard procedures to ensure work inside the Safety Circle
• Interrupt unsafe acts – our own and others
• Being willing to be interrupted when being unsafe
• Manage risk by conducting risk assessments
• Reporting all hazards and incidents to their supervisor immediately.
• As a DEC contractor we expect you to abide by the same principles
• If you identify a hazard or safety issue, report it to your DEC contact.
Where ideas happen HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY • The DEC is committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for all
workers, visitors, contractors and members of the public. • In demonstrating DEC’s duty of care, every reasonable effort will be made to provide a working
environment that minimises the risk of personal injury and ill health. • This includes:- • Providing appropriate training. • Providing safe plant, equipment and systems of work. • Providing regular consultation with workers on health and safety issues.
Responsibilities for all Contractor's / DEC workers & Event Participants
• Health and safety is everyone’s responsibility. • Follow reasonable directions given by their Managers, Coordinators, Supervisors. • If you identify an unsafe act or condition that presents an imminent risk of injury or damage to
plant or equipment. Stop work immediately or interrupt the work activity. Make conditions safe - notify your Supervisor
Where ideas happen WORK HEALTH AND SAFETY (WHS) ACT 2012
Duties as a worker: • Workers Must take reasonable care for their own safety
while at work, is such that their acts or omissions do not adversely effect the health and safety of other persons
• Comply with any reasonable instruction relating to health and safety
• Cooperate with any reasonable policy and procedure of the business that relates to health and safety
Where ideas happen INCIDENT AND HAZARD REPORTING All incidents that occur during the 2016 STDE must be reported to the DEC Box Office as soon as possible
An Incident can include: • An event that interrupts the workplace, whether injury results
or not. • Motor Vehicle damage • Property Damage • Personal Injury • Environmental • Hazards must be reported via the incident report form
Where ideas happen MANUAL HANDLING • Size up the load – Check the loads size, weight and stability. Do I need
help to lift it?
• Move close to the load – Spread your feet shoulder width apart.
• Always bend your knees – Keep your chest up. and get a firm grip. Tighten your core (abdominal muscles)
• Raise the object using your leg muscles – Hold the load close to your body keeping your head up.
• Turn by moving your feet – Pivot your feet. Avoid twisting movements.
No person is required to handle a load that is beyond their capacity, or which they reasonably perceive is a risk to their health and safety.
Where ideas happen SMOKING The Public Health Amendment Act 2011
Under this Act, GCC / DEC is required to control smoking in the workplace.
Smoking is not permitted within any:
• DEC Building (within 5m of any entrance or exit to a building)
• DEC Vehicles
• DEC Plant or Equipment Area
• Smoking is only to occur in designated areas
Where ideas happen DRUGS AND ALCOHOL Any workers affected by alcohol and/or drugs at work has a serious
impact on the health and safety of everyone at that worksite.
GCC / DEC has a zero tolerance to illicit drugs.
• Presenting to work under the influence/affected by drugs or alcohol will not be accepted.
• Immediate Action will be taken.
Where ideas happen ELECTRICAL SAFETY The DEC requires:
• That all electrical work is only to be carried out by licenced electricians.
• All electrical tools and equipment brought onto site at the DEC MUST be
inspected and tested and tagged by a qualified person in accordance
with AS/NZ 3760:2010. This includes hair dryers, styling wands, hot rollers irons and anything that is plugged into 240v power. Random inspections will take place by a qualified / nominated DEC Technical Staff
• Equipment that does not have a current test tag in place will be removed from service and will not be placed back into service until the item is tested and tagged. TESTING & TAGGING SERVICE CAN BE PROVIDED BY DEC STAFF AT A COST OF $25 PER LEAD
• Treat all unidentified wires and cables as live, until signed off as isolated by qualified and licensed electrician.
Where ideas happen VEHICLE ACCESS – LOADING DOCK AREA
1. Add photo of rear compound
• All hirers, contractors , performers and volunteers can drop off equipment at the loading dock or people at the artist entry but no vehicles are allowed to park in the loading dock compound
• All vehicles must be removed from the loading bay area once unloading in finished.
• Parking is available in the Red Carpark adjacent to the main rear compound gate.
Where ideas happen BACKSTAGE - DRESSING ROOM AREA
• NO ENTRY to the General Public
• It is the responsibility of teachers, assistants and parents to take care of their belongings and ensure participants are supervised at all times
• All equipment stored backstage is the responsibility of the owner
• BE AWARE of who should and should not be in your dressing rooms at all times
Where ideas happen EMERGENCY EVACUATION • The Derwent Entertainment Centre has a two stage evacuation alarm system
installed.
• Once the first warning announcement is triggered, the DEC Chief Fire Warden will ask patrons to stand by whilst the alarm is investigated. The Derwent Entertainment Centre Emergency Response team will investigate and report back to the DEC Chief Fire Warden.
• If no evacuation is required the Chief Fire warden will make an announcement that all is clear and the show/ event or meeting can continue
• If evacuation is required the automatic evacuation message will sound.
• If you have to evacuate you must follow instructions from the DEC Staff who will direct you to the safe assembly area away from the incident

Where ideas happen IN CASE OF EMERGENCY
• Follow instructions given by the Chief Fire Warden over the DEC PA System
• 4 EVACUATION PROCEDURES: Ensure you are taking the correct exit pathway: Backstage, Front of building, Highway Side or River Side.
• Ensure all participants in your care are accounted for
• Evacuate your dressing room and leave an EVACUATED sign outside the door to signify you have left.
• Do not panic, be calm and follow the instructions given.
