Based on the Govt. Policy of opening up Insurance industry, M.Sc Actuarial science
was introduced. Started with an evening Diploma program and later upgraded to M.Sc
program with the support of UGC. Now offered under self supporting mode. It is a
pan Indian program attracting students from all over India and abroad.

does the department utilize the feedback?
1. Feedbacks given by students at the end of every semester are seriously
discussed in the department and appropriate measures are taken to rectify
the errors, if any.
Under CBCS system teacher offering the course has the freedom to continuously
evaluate, Department has policy of scrutiny of question papers by inviting experts
before the end semester examination

Every year the feedback forms are processed by IQAC section of the University

Statistics is more an interactive course. Hence chalk and board is widely used.
However, as a supplement LCD and others are used when needed. Software usage is
more an interactive process. Students are asked to choose topics in a course and a
presentation is made

and learning outcomes are monitored?
With limited strength of faculty members, students interact on a regular basis.
Students seek the guidance of faculty on a regular basis after the class hours.
47. Highlight the participation of students and faculty in extension activities.
· Insurance day was celebrated jointly with LIC of India and competition was held
with students participation from the departments and affiliated colleges

· Students take up Actuarial society of India examinations and around 60%
of them pass out atleast two papers before completing their M.Sc
program.
· Students have participated in the National level writing completion in
Statistics Conducted by Ministry of Statistics and Programme
Implimentation and won prestigious awards over the past five years.
Awards were presented by the Central Minister of Statistics on National
statistics Day at New Delhi.
· Students have participated inter-collegiate competitions and won prizes,
conducted by the affiliated colleges of University of Madras- Madras
Christian College and SDNB Vaishnav Women’s College.

No formal accreditation. But the syllabus for Actuarial science program has been
designed based on the Actuarial Society of India
50. Briefly highlight the contributions of the department in generating new
knowledge, basic or applied.
· Ample number of seminars has been arranged by experts on recent topics,
like Statistical Genetics, Data Mining and Clinical Trials, financial modeling
etc.,for the benefit of the students and researchers.
· Workshops on the use of statistical packages and R programming also
conducted for the benefits of the students.

· Department would like to go in for DST- FIST Phase 2 program.
· With the faculty to be filled up soon more projects proposals to be submitted
for financial support.
· Department is carrying out lot of consultancy work. Propose to channelize the
same through the Center for Data Analysis by charging a nominal
consultancy fee
· Expansion of Research in frontier areas like Big data, Financial modeling
Clinical trials etc.
