What is a learning experience (i.e., research/work project), and when should I start thinking about it?

One credit hour equals 45 hours of work (135 hours of work = 3 credit hours). The experience must be related to your area of study within your field of study, be hands on, and may be paid or volunteer. Experiences may involve research, teaching, or exposure to a specific profession. Students are responsible for arranging their experience and turning in their “contract” on time. Your academic advisor will help guide you in selecting an appropriate experience as needed. Students have three options for experience credit.

• ALS 498H/499H: Honors Research or Teaching (Required for those in the CALS Honors Program) • MB 492: External Learning Experience (Off Campus) • MB 493: Special Problems in Biological Sciences/Zoology (On Campus)
