Department of Mathematics—Program Goals and Learning Outcomes for Math Majors
Note: Courses listed with an outcome support it but may not be required in degree program
1. Provide students with a thorough and diverse conceptual foundation in mathematics
necessary to begin post-graduate careers or to successfully pursue post-graduate
education.
a. Learning Outcome 1.1. By graduation, students will understand the conceptual
foundations of introductory-level calculus, differential equations, and matrix
algebra.

b. Learning Outcome 1.2. By graduation, students will understand major upper-
level concepts in geometry, probability and statistics, abstract algebra, linear
algebra, and real and complex analysis.

2. Provide students with the computational and statistical skills necessary to begin post-

algebraic or algorithmic manipulation to determine the desired values in a
mathematical problem and interpreting the results.
