Faculty Practitioners in All AreasCommunity-Based Externship Sites: All 4th-year dental students participate in two 5-week community rotations where they provide care in a variety of settings including: community health centers, hospital-based dental clinics, private practice, Indian Health Service clinics, geriatrics and nursing homes.

RESEARCH � With integrated and collaborative research programs in craniofacial genetics, developmental anomalies, immunology, cariology, bone and tissue engineering, public health, and public policy, the College of Dentistry is on the cutting edge of revolutionary scientific research.

� Over the past three years, the college has supported these on-going research efforts by recruiting more than 14 new faculty.

� As a result, the College of Dentistry had a 5% increase in external federal funding from 2017 to 2018, bringing the total amount of federal funding up to almost five million dollars.

� Our student research program places Iowa as one of the top dental schools in number of presentations at annual international dental research meetings.

� These research programs also help integrate critical thinking skills into the dental school curriculum.

LEADERSHIP � In recent years, collegiate alumni or former faculty have included one university president, four Big Ten dental deans, three ADA trustees, and three ADEA presidents. In addition, over 80% of Iowa Dental Association presidents are our alumni.

� All specialties have leadership in the councils where national patient policy and standards are set.
