weekdays and a f$ll strip on $ndays.

The co!ic strip beca!e so s$ccessf$l that it was adapted to !any other kinds of pop$lar !edia#

incl$din" several television shows# both live-action and ani!ated4 and several feat$re fil!s#

incl$din" theatrical and direct-to-video releases.

and try to e;plain their sons antics to others. Despite this# they really do love hi! very !$ch.

sidekick to Denniss sche!es# and sees hi! as a bi" brother fi"$re. Dennis often "ives hi! advice#

and "ives hi! little n$""ets of wisdo! and insi"ht.

>ackson: in the late 1)+2s# &etcha! decided to add an 9frican 9!erican character to the cast

na!ed >ackson. &etcha! desi"ned >ackson in the tradition of a stereotypical cartoon pickaninny#

with h$"e lips# bi" white eyes# and $st a s$""estion of an 9fro hair style. 'n one cartoon that

feat$red >ackson# he and Dennis were playin" in the backyard# when Dennis said to his father# '!havin so!e race tro$ble with >ackson. %e r$ns faster than !e. The atte!pt to inte"rate the

feat$re did not "o over well. ,rotests er$pted in Detroit# @ittle 0ock# Mia!i# and t. @o$is# and

debris was thrown at the offices of the ,ost Dispatch. Taken aback# &etcha! iss$ed a state!ent

e;plainin" that his intentions were innocent# and >ackson went back into the ink bottle.
