As Australia’s aged population increases, dementia is everybody’s business. With the growing prevalence of dementia there is a need for better understanding of the condition and its impact. All of us are likely to come into contact with a person living with dementia. That person could be a neighbour, a fellow club member, a person we encounter on public transport or in a shopping centre - but could equally be a close family member. By having an increased understanding, we can help reduce the stigma that still exists around dementia in our community and, in so doing, achieve a more dementia-friendly community.

Rarely a day goes by without the media reporting a dementia research breakthrough. Whilst it is good to have this continued media focus on the issue, often these stories can be misleading. That is why community education is so important. As the peak dementia body, Alzheimer’s Australia Vic is able to provide authoritative updates on current research presented by our highly qualified professional facilitators and, by invitation, leading dementia researchers.

We provide community education in a wide variety of contexts to a range of audiences, including those who are culturally diverse. In addition to calendared sessions we can also work with you to identify the most appropriate focus for your community group or organisation. Together, we can work towards a society that is more dementia-friendly and inclusive of people living with dementia.
