FRANKLIN & DELTA RECREATION SUMMER TRIP

As I am sure you know by now this year’s summer camp is destined to be the most exciting ever. We are going to Bonham Lake State Park on July 5-7th. The park has several air conditioned bar-racks and a mess hall located on old Indian burial grounds. The facility is very nice with the occa-sional haunting and lost child to keep things exciting. The park offers beach volleyball, basketball, boating, fishing, and trails (both hiking and biking). On top of all this the lead-ers are putting together a great schedule of events to entertain and enlighten the youth. CAMP COST- $45.00 CAMP SIGNUP DEADLINE- May 20. FINAL PAYMENT DUE- June 3rd. Need to be 4-H age-all 4-H youth under 12 must have an adult present and we need at least one adult for every 5 head of kids. This will be a very fun and affordable camp. Everyone needs to attend, the more folks we have coming the more we can offer. I know many of the Delta Mom’s have started looking for bikinis but, I am sorry female leaders, parents and youth no two-piece bathing suits allowed. We want to see as little skin as possible!

DELTA COUNTY BOBBY WIGGLY MEMORIAL PROJECT SHOW

It was a perfect day for the project show. We had several 4-H youth competing at the show. Ms. Riley Purviance got reserve champion for her pen of good rabbits and she finally won a very nice buckle in the rabbit showmanship class. Even though she was sick, Emmy Johnson toughed it out and placed high with her pen of rabbits. The Brown girls had some very nice lambs and Mrs. Brown even won the adult showmanship class. We had the largest swine class we have had in several years. Jacob and Elizabeth Skeen placed near the top with their pigs and poor Joshua Berry placed near the bottom with his rooter. In the second ever horse contest the kids competed in Halter, Horsemanship and Trail classes.

We had several youth participating they included: Gabby and Caitlin Brown,

Garret and Sister Freeman, Zanak Lynch, Jacob Skeen, Cameron Miller and Joshua Berry. Everyone did a great job. The top three

overall were Joshua Berry, Jacob Skeen and a tie for third between Cameron Miller and Caitlin Brown. I hope we can build and improve this competition next year.

The kids all did a great job. Jack won the Senior II Overall and Senior II Trap, while Austin placed 5th in the Senior I division. HORSE PROJECT The Horse Project "Speed Event Preparation Practices" have been fantastic. We have had special guest instructors Donna Bolin and Lisa Rigney come and help at three of the practices. More guest instructors are lined up. Saturday, April 9, was the start of the 13 series Lone Star Barrel Racing Association events which will all be held at the Mount Vernon Sheriff's Posse Arena. This is what has had all of us practicing so hard. The following Franklin 4H Horse Project Youth competed and all for the first time (except Hannah & Nicole) to try their luck at the tough competition: Baukje Talsma & Nicole

Barela (18 & under barrels), Hannah Penny (18 & under open barrels), Kaila McAnally and Michael Gray (10 & under barrels/poles), Kristen Hughes (18 & under barrels/poles). Debby Plantinga competed in the 19 & over open division in barrels/poles. All of the youth did a great job! We can see areas we need to work on and improve for next time. Nicole and Michael won some cash, and perhaps Hannah did with her awesome time in the super tough open barrels (16.8 seconds?). Any youth placing in the top ten will receive points towards year end awards if they signed up for membership. Debby placed 1st in the Open 4D barrels. Kaila and Kristen are the newest to riding of the 4H youth that competed and they were willing to jump right in and give the competition a shot. They all deserve a round of applause.
