Presentation on Deforestration
Deforestation in Bangladesh and its solution
Every nation aims for a developed or advanced status.. Deforestation clears land of trees and bushes for development. Houses, industries, parks and public infrastructure are built on the cleared land. However, rapid deforestation as a result of greed for quick wealth is endangering both the wildlife and our health. But first we should know what deforestation is.
What is Deforestation???
Deforestation is a major threat of Bangladesh. Deforestation means cutting down trees in large number. The causes of deforestation are many. According to the ecologists, for livable environment there should be forest on the 25% land of the total area. In Bangladesh there is 16% forest of the total land
Effects on Bangladesh
Bangladesh is the most densely populated country in the world. 50% of the country’s forests have been destroyed in the last 20
years. This is known as deforestation. Indiscriminate felling of trees in the greater parts of Dhaka, Mymensingh, Rajshahi, Rangpur and Dinajpur has resulted in an alarming depleting of the forests. Some 30 years ago, the forest area in Tangail was 2,000 acres; today it is down to 1,000 across. Similarly, the forests in the Chittagong Hill Tracts have been over-exploited by the tribal people, mainly for jhum cultivation. This destruction disturbs our ecological balance. The
existences of animals are going to be threatened
Causes of deforestation
in
Bangladesh
Heavy Soil Erosion – The roots of the trees hold the soil firmly keeping it intact During heavy rains and typhoons soil is washed away to lower regions. This increases the risk for landslides which can cause seriously threaten the safety of the people and damage their properties.
Extinction of flora and fauna – Destruction of the forests leads to a tragic loss of biodiversity. Countries with tropical forests suffer the greatest causalities due to deforestation.
Agricultural activitiesWe are cutting forest in order to do agricultural activities.
Logging:
We are cutting down trees to make paper, match-sticks, furniture etc.
Urbanization:We are cutting down trees to make place for urbanization.
Mining:We are cutting down trees for mining and the waste that comes out from mining pollutes environment and affects the nearby species.
Fires:
Hundreds of trees are lost each year due to forest fires in various portions of the world.
Desertification of land:
Many industries in petrochemicals release their wastes into rivers which results in soil erosion and make it unfit to grow plants and trees.
Effects of deforestation
Heavy Soil Erosion During heavy rains and typhoons soil is washed away to lower
regions.
Extinction of flora and faunaMillions of plants and animal species are on the verge of extinction due to deforestation
Relocation of wild life to urban areasMany wild animals have started relocating to urban areas
as a result of massive deforestation.
Global warming –Deforestation increases the amount of carbon dioxide in
the atmosphere leading to global warming due to green house effect.
Silting of Rivers and Dams –Deforestation causes large scale deposition of
sediments in the rivers.
Wildlife extinction:Due to massive felling down of trees,
various species of animals are lost.
Flooding –Due to large scale deforestation there are very less tress
to retain water. This again leads to heavy floods causing heavy loss of life and property.
Desertification –Deforestation is one of the causes behind the
conversion of many fertile tracts of land to deserts.
Danger of submersion of coastal areas and glaciers –Due to massive deforestation, the average temperature
of the earth has rise and this would lead to a massive rise in the sea levels leading to submersion of coastal areas.
Possible solutions
• 1. The best solution to deforestation is to curb the felling of trees, by employing a series of rules and laws to govern it. 2. Clear cutting of forests must be banned. This will curb total depletion of the forest cover. It is a practical solution and is very feasible.
• 3. Land skinned of its tree cover for urban settlements should be urged to plant trees in the vicinity and replace the cut trees.

Above all it is clear that we can reduce
deforestation and the effects of climate change—but not without you. With the help of our generous support helps develop science-based solutions for a healthy, safe, and sustainable future. So, we have to plant more and more trees instead of cutting them randomly.
