DEFIB-5 ENERGY CALCULATION SOFTWARE VERSION 1.0 10/31/2007 System Requirements: CPU Speed: 2GHz or Higher Memory: 512MB or Higher Operating System: Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Optimal Screen Resolution: 1280x1024 pixels or 1024x768 Pixels Installation Instructions: 1.-Install a GPIB card & driver: Make sure that a GPIB card is correctly installed on the computer. To install a new GPIB card follow the manufacturer instructions and install the provided driver. If you have a National Instruments GPIB PCI card; the Installation CD has an up to date generic driver for PCI cards (see folder “1_GPIB Driver”). Also it is possible to download the latest GPIB card driver from National Instruments at: http://www.ni.com. If a GPIB card is already installed in the computer make sure that the process was done correctly by checking that the driver is listed at the computer’s “Device Manager”. To locate the Device Manager go to START CONTROL PANEL SYSTEM HARDWARE DEVICE MANAGER. The GPIB device properties should specify that it is working properly as seen in Figure 1.

When installing a new GPIB card make sure that you also install the National Instruments “Measurement & Automation Explorer” software, version 3.0 or higher. This software allows browsing the National Instruments software components installed in the computer; it also provides a way to test the communication with the oscilloscope before installing the DEFIB-5 Software. An up to date version of the “Measurement & Automation Explorer” software is automatically installed when using the provided GPIB PCI card driver (see figure 2); in this case follow the instructions and reboot the computer if needed. If a message requires the GPIB card registration just skip the registration step. In case of using a different driver make sure that the installation package includes the Explorer, if not; after installing the GPIB driver jump to “Installation Step 5”, follow the instructions to install the “Measurement & Automation Explorer” and then return to “Step 2”.

Figure 2.-Installation of the GPIB card Driver and the Measurement & Automation Explorer. 2.-GPIB card and “Measurement & Automation Explorer Check”. Locate the Measurement & Automation Explorer at the computer’s Desktop screen or go to the “START ALL PROGRAMS NATIONAL INSTRUMENTS” folder and run the program. This program also can be found inside “c:\Program Files”, otherwise wait until it is installed during following steps; then run it and confirm a similar Explorer window as in figure 3. Figure 3 shows the Measurement & Automation Explorer window. The explorer shows the GPIB card properties after clicking “Devices & Interfaces” “GPIB0 (PCI-GPIB)”. By default the GPIB Interface Identification number is “GPIB0”. If another configuration is obtained, or if the “GPIB0” device is not shown: check that the card was installed properly and confirm the use of the appropriate GPIB driver. In case of success connect the Oscilloscope to the GPIB card, turn it ON and check its screen for a “Communication Module Installed” message. At the Measurement & Automation Explorer click “Scan for Instruments” and confirm that the Oscilloscope is recognized as: “Instrument: #, PAD: #, SAD: None, Brand: Agilent,DSO3062A”, see figure 4.

At this point the GPIB card will be working properly and will have a valid Primary Address: “7” in this case (see figure 6). It is important to know this address because it will have to be selected as first step once the DEFIB-5 program is run. It is also important to browse in the “Measurement & Automation Explorer” for all the installed software at this point, figure 7 shows a reference of what components have to be installed.

Figure 7.- Software Required to Establish Communication with the Oscilloscope.

3.-Install the DEFIB-5 Application Software: Enter to the “2_DEFIB-5 Setup” folder and run the “SETUP.exe” file, follow the installation instructions and reboot the computer if needed. This will install the DEFIB-5 application software, the National Instruments IVI compliance package version 3.1 (this handles the access to virtual instruments used in the application software), and the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 8.2.1 (this allows the execution of LabVIEW programs without installing the LabView full Development software. Figures 8,9 & 10 show the windows expected during this setup process. It is important to notice that at any part of the installation process the computer might have already installed a few of the required software components. If the version for installed components is older than the one of this installation an automatic update will be performed, otherwise a message will notify that the current version is newer: in this case keep the current version and follow the installation. After rebooting the computer the Measurement & Automation explorer should show the new Software components installed, see figure 11 for reference.

4.-Install the AG3000 Series Oscilloscope Driver: Enter to the “3_AG3000 Scope Driver” folder and run the “ag3000LV80.exe” file, follow the installation instructions. This will install the required files to allow communication between the DEFIB-5 Software and the oscilloscope. After the Oscilloscope driver installation browse in the Measurement & Automation Explorer and make sure the driver is listed as in figure 12.

Figure 12.-Osclilloscope AG3000 series Driver Installed. 5.-Install the VISA 3.2 driver: Enter to the “4_Visa 3.2 Driver” folder and run the “visa320full.exe” file, follow the installation instructions and reboot the computer when prompted. This will install the files required to communicate with virtual instruments used by the DEFIB-5 application Software. Figures 13, 14 & 15 show the VISA 3.2 install process. Figure 14 shows that a version of the Measurement & Automation Explorer is included in the VISA 3.2 package, in this case the installation automatically identified that this component was already installed, see figure 15. Normally the Measurement & Automation explorer will be included in the GPIB driver package as mentioned during “Step 1”, otherwise; install it during this step and then return to “Step 2”.

Figure 16.-Installation of the entire National Instrument’s Software. 7.-Runnig the DEFIB-5 Software: After a correct installation run the DEFIB-5 software by Clicking the “D-5_1_0.exe” application. This program will be inside the following path: C:\ Program Files\D-5_1_0\. Also a shortcut to the program will be at: START ALL PROGRAMS D-5_1_0. For easy access to the program this shortcut can be copied to the computer’s Desktop screen. After running the DEFIB-5 Software the window shown in Figure 17 will appear at the screen. This program will allow connecting and configuring a DSO3062A Oscilloscope to capture DEFIB-5 Positive or Negative waveforms. Once waveforms are captured, the program will allow to save them in the computer and to read previously stored waveforms. 7.1.-OFFLINE mode: The DEFIB-5 program starts running in OFFLINE mode; this means it does not need connection to the oscilloscope. In offline mode the user can browse previously stored waveforms by clicking the “READ” button. Once a waveform is selected and loaded; the user can save the screen with a default name or with any given name. The default name contains: Model name, Date, Hour, Minutes & Seconds of pulse for example: “Defib-5--10-17-2007-11-29-35 AM”. If the user changes the default name it is desired the addition of the “txt” extention to the new name. All the stored waveforms are saved by default as text files. If the user does not put the “txt” extention the program can still open the waveform file. In offline mode it is not allowed to perform functions that need the oscilloscope connection, such as: “Setting the Scope”. If the user presses the “SET” button a popup window will notify that the oscilloscope is disconnected and will request to press the “CONNECT” button first.

7.2.-ONLINE mode: To use the program in ONLINE mode the following steps are required:

1.- The oscilloscope must be turned ON and connected to the GPIB switch box. 2.- The GPIB switch box Output must be at ON position. 3.- The computer’s GPIB card must be connected to the GPIB switch box. 4.- The user must select the correct GPIB address at the DEFIB-5 program. 5.- The user must press the “CONNECT” button at the DEFIB-5 program.

After these steps the program will indicate a successful connection by turning ON the “Scope Ready” LED. Once the oscilloscope is in online mode the “CONNECT” button does not have any action until the program runs again.

Page 14: DEFIB-5 ENERGY CALCULATION SOFTWARE INSTALLATION MANUAL COMPLIANCE

If the connection is not successful the program will indicate a connection error and will allow RETRYING the connection or EXITING the program. The most common causes of error are:

1.- Wrong connection of the cables. 2.- Wrong selection of the oscilloscope GPIB address. 3.- The GPIB switch Box is at OFF position. 4.- The software was not installed correctly.

After a correct connection to the oscilloscope the following actions are allowed:

1.-Select the Polarity of the DEFIB-5 pulse desired to capture. 2.-Set the oscilloscope to capture the desired waveform. 3.-Capture a waveform, display the waveform, and show its energy in Joules units. 4.-Save the waveform. 5.-Read Previously stored waveforms.

The program operation is really intuitive, and it is designed to notify the user in case an invalid action is done. When this happens the program will remind the user what is required to perform the desired action. 7.3.-OPERATION WARNINGS: When the program is running in online mode it disables the oscilloscope buttons to avoid the user from selecting incorrect settings manually. If the user selects to end the program during online mode, and if the scope is disconnected; a message will remain that the oscilloscope buttons will be dissabled. To recover oscilloscope functionality when the program is not exited in normal maner, it just need to be turned OFF & ON again. Always follow these instructions and the instructions given by the DEFIB-5 program to avoid any risk of damage to the equipment and computer system. It is STRONGLY advised to follow the instruction of setting the GPIB switch box to the OFF position when required by the program. This allows isolating the computer from the high voltage in case of a wrong connection of the DEFIB-5 tester. Always read the DEFIB-5 tester manual first to avoid any misuse of the high voltage tester.
