Dear Parents and Friends, School Council Elections - Thank you to the parents who have nomi-nated for parent representative positions on council. As there are more nomina-tions than positions available, there will be an election. Ballot papers were sent home last Friday to every parent. Voting papers should be filled in, placed in the envelope provided and returned to the school office by 4pm on Friday, 15 March. I encourage our parents to take an active part in this election process and return the ballot paper before the closing date. Classroom Brain Breaks are provided for students in all classrooms at 10am each day. This is an opportunity for students to break from their schoolwork and have a snack of fresh fruit or vegetables brought from home and a drink of water from their water bottle. Students are welcome to keep a water bottle (containing water) at or near their desk in the classroom throughout the day. Other drinks may be kept in students’ bags for their lunch break . Afternoon recess is an opportunity for students to have a ‘nude food’ snack (no wrappers are taken outside).
It is of concern that some students do not, as yet, have the required Essential Education Items for their use in their classroom, such as exercise books, pens and pencils. These items are essential for maximised learning.
Victorian Government schools are not funded to provide consumable items that the student takes temporary or permanent possession of such as text books, student stationery . These are to be provided for by parents/carers. Deer Park North P.S. is not a BYO device technology school and supports each student by providing laptops and iPads for their use in classrooms. The cost of essential education items for each child is $130. This includes payment for Kitchen-Garden ($10) and materials provided for use by all students over the year in specialist classes. Parents/carers can arrange to make payments in instalments for the essential education items. Please contact the school office for further details.

Year 2 Maths Kit Launch On Tuesday the 5
th March the Year 2 children invited parents and car-
ers to celebrate the launch of the Year 2 Maths Kit.
The aim of the launch was to show parents some of the possibilities for the take home Maths kits. In the lead up to the launch the children had been playing with the equipment in the kits and creating games that would help them practise numeracy skills. The children planned and
rehearsed how they would teach the games to our visitors. It was a wonderful morning and our students were incredible teachers to all the parents/carers who were able to come. JJB wrote a shared writing piece about how the morning began: The room was crowded with children, adults and toddlers. The tables were covered with maths equipment. It was our Maths Kit Launch! We were feeling excited, nervous, scared and happy all at the same time. Before the games began there was silence from the group as everyone wanted to hear the instructions, but when the games started you wouldn’t have heard a volcano erupt as the room was so loud with chatter and laughing.
The children wrote the following reflections about the experience: I felt happy, I loved the parents coming. My favourite part is the parents helped me. Diamond I loved it when we played the games. My favourite part was when I got to know the parent’s names. Anisa They were good to teach. I was a little nervous at first, but I got used to it. Mia I felt nervous when I went in to the room, but I felt happy when the parents understood my game. Prince I was nervous to speak to the parents, my friends helped me read my part. Daniel The Maths Kits are fun. Haidar The parents loved our game. They thought it was good. Samuel I felt happy my mum was there, she played with me, Nomie and Anthony. by Chase I felt excited when my mum was in my class. Parents were funny when with our group. Nomie I felt nervous when showing my game number bingo, but happy when we were playing the games. It was fun! Katie
