Project 1.1 - Coiled Tubing Drill rig-
Vision• To develop and adapt transformational drilling technologies.
• Coiled tubing rig for greenfields mineral exploration drilling at a cost of $50/metre to a depth of 500 metres and weighing less than 10 tonnes with ancillary safety and environmental benefits
Mission
Tough but doable
Program 1 in Context with Program 2 and 3
• 2-3 hours move in and rig up time
• Penetration rates: up to100m/hr in soft, predictable sedimentary rocks.
• CTD offers improved cost, safety, and environmental impact in mineral exploration
• Key challenges for mineral exploration include: • Hard rock drilling with a Low weight-on-bit• Coil durability• Efficient Micro in-hole tooling• Micro borehole sensing and sampling

Down-Hole Force-Torque Sub
The DET CRC down-hole force-torque sub measure weight-on-bit, torque and internal fluid pressure.
Additional sensors could be integrated into future iterations of the tool.
The sub communicates with an interface unit on the surface over an armoured cable within the tubing of the Coiled Tubing Drill Rig.
Slimmest down-hole force-torque sub in the world.
Hole stability, Water cleaning & Cuttings transport
Full-scale trials at Brukunga collecting cuttings. CFD models “Tuned” to match flow loop observations
Project 1.1: Key Outcomes Sample returns/ drilling fluids/Hole stability
Percussive CT-drilled hole. Dry section. 360° Photo
Percussive CT-drilled hole. Wet section
Percussive CT-drilled hole wet section Clay wash out
Printed Core
Standard SRU’s will under most conditions remove 90% of cuttings in the drilling fluids. We are currently achieving 99.9% cuttings removal.

Mineral Systems Drilling ProgramGeological Survey of SA: mid 2015
• following 2014’s GA/GSV Victorian drilling
• key step in planning – design – manufacture – lab testing – Brukunga DRTF testing – field testing technology
• ~16 holes/~7 km to map mineral system under cover
• principally Wireless Sub, Lab-at-RigTM (incl. LAR Fluids), AutoSondeTM (possibly AutoShuttle), VSPs & Real-Time Drill Site
