Decor paper is special paper used to create
quality finishes on wooden backing materials.
The single-color paper is either used as it is
or printed with a range of designs and can
be found on furniture surfaces, flooring, and
paneling.
Koehler Decor Paper is produced mainly using
hardwood cellulose which is, of course, certi-
fied. They are highly absorbent, which makes
them suited to impregnation. Decor paper can
be given fillers if they are to be used to cover
dark backing materials such as chipboard and
core paper. These white and colored pigments
are highly light-resistant and also resilient to
chemicals.
Decor paper is manufactured in a wide variety
of colors and surface weights. The surface is
either glazed or machine finished. Other out -
standing properties are the high porosity,
water resistance, fade resistance, and color
consistency.

Print base paper has a satin finish and is
characterized by being easy to print on and
to impregnate, as well as by its dimensional
stability and high color accuracy. Our com-
prehensive assortment of print base paper is
available in a variety of colors and weights
for LPL, HPL, and CPL applications.
LPL stands for “Low Pressure Laminate” and
means that the impregnated decor paper can
be laminated with low pressure on the carri-
er material. With HPL “High Pressure
Laminate”, multiple layers are pressed with
high pressure. And with CPL “Continuous
Pressure Laminate”, it happens through a
continuous process.
Available in the various color spectrums of
white, cream, beige, brown, gray, and black,
these are further processed by the furniture
industry and manufactured into floors,
kitchen counter tops, window sills, and other
similar things.
Koehler print base paper is available in
standard grammages from 50 to 140 gsm.

Koehler UNI paper differentiate itself
through outstanding penetra tion and im-
pregnation properties. It is well suited to the
demands of the high speed impregnation
machinery.
UNI paper is a single-color decor paper
that is dyed through for LPL, HPL, and CPL
applications. It is either machine-smoothed or
have a light satin finish.
We manufacture in different color shades
ranging from white, cream, beige, brown,
and grey to black. Our single-color UNI paper
is used on furniture, office tables, and coated
boards for the DIY sector. It is also used in
interior architecture.
We produce UNI paper in standard gram-
mages from 50 to 140 gsm.

The so-called “post-impregnates” are well
suited to many applications in both the single-
color version or with a printed finish. Base
paper for foil production is printed with a
satin top surface, is usually painted, and is
laminated onto chipboard or MDF boards
using conventional dispersion adhesives.
Post-impregnates enable higher-quality
printing than the familiar pre-impregnates,
meaning they offer big benefits to processors.
Our base paper for foil production exhibits a
particularly homogenous surface, high split
strength, and good paint coverage.
Available in diverse shades of white, cream,
beige, brown, gray, and black, they are used
in the manufacture of living room, bedroom,
and kids’ furniture. They are also used for
sheathing profiles, doors, frames, and base-
boards.
We offer base paper for foil production in
standard grammages from 50 to 140 gsm.

Edge banding paper is produced with a
smooth surface on one side so that it can be
evenly painted. It can be used in single-color
quality or printed in subsequent processing.
After that it is impregnated and laid as a
laminate on the backing material.
Edge banding paper is used for covering small
wood areas, door rebates, and soft-forming
profiles.
Our edge banding paper boasts high splitting
strength, impregnability, and an even sur -
face. These qualities have helped Koehler
Decor Paper become the world market leader
in edge banding paper.
We produce edge banding paper in a range of
whites as well as cream, beige, brown, gray,
and black, from 140 to 300 gsm.
REGENERATED PAPER
Like edge banding paper, our regenerated
paper is produced with a smooth surface on
one side. However, Koehler regenerated
paper is made on the basis of recycled fibers.
It boasts outstanding impregnation properties
and is available in various colors including
cream, beige, brown, gray, and black in
standard grammages from 110 to 300 gsm.

PRINTING PROCESS
Decor paper is usually printed using the
intaglio process, in which ink is applied to the
paper by an engraved roller. The interplay
between the paper color and various printing
inks enables limitless decorative designs,
ranging from wood and stone patterns all the
way to fantasy designs.
IMPREGNATING PROCESS
In order to join decor paper to wood
materials, the paper is soaked in melamine,
urea, or acrylate resin, depending on the
application. Because this paper is highly
absorbent and penetrable, it is able to soak up
twice its own weight in resin.
Our decor paper is highly resistant to
moisture, which allows a smooth passage
through the impregnating plant.
COATING PROCESS
Decor paper is combined with the wood
panels through use of the most modern
compression and laminating equipment. High
temperatures and the ensuing pressure in the
compression facilities create softening of the
impregnated resins. This allows the decor
paper to be joined with the wood. In the
lamination process this happens through melt
adhesives. With structured press sheets, the
surface of the wood materials is given a near
perfect natural look.

RESPONSIBILITY TO THE
ENVIRONMENT
Environmentally sustainable production is
part of our corporate philosophy. Environ -
mental protection is viewed on equal terms
with our other company objectives. Further -
more, the Koehler Group’s conservation
activities have received numerous regional
and national awards. Examples of these
activities include membership in support
associations, sponsoring streams and rivers,
and running campaigns with environmental
organizations such as planting campaigns or
setting up nesting boxes.
All of our environmentally relevant processes
are certified as part of our management
system in accordance with DIN ISO
14001:2009.
PULP
We use only high-grade ECF bleached pulp to
make our Koehler Decor Paper. This raw
material originates from responsibly managed
forests, plantations, or sawmill remnants, and
is FSC® (C0165508) or PEFC certified.
All Koehler Decor Paper qualities is available
with FSC® or PEFC labels on request.
WATER
More than 96% of our water consumption is
retained within the water cycle, putting us at
the top of the European league. The mill at
Kehl produces just four cubic meters of
wastewater per ton of paper, an extremely
low figure which is almost unequaled in
Europe, or for that matter, anywhere in the
world.
RAW MATERIALS
Raw materials are selected according to their
environmental sustainability – meaning how
well they biodegrade and can be recycled –
and for their health safety.
INKS
All inks employed are safely recyclable.
RECYCLING
Due to the premium quality materials con-
cerned, our production waste is immediately
returned to the production process cycle of
Koehler Decor Paper.

RESIDUAL MATERIALS
Our priority is to avoid waste altogether. If
avoiding or reusing waste is not possible,
residual materials are all utilized in an eco-
friendly manner, and not dumped.
ENERGY
At the Kehl mill, biomass-fired combined heat
and power plants supply our basic heat ener-
gy needs. They work on the principle of
cogenera tion and circulating fluidized bed
combustion. This enables us to stay well
below the legal emission limits in all areas.
TRANSPORTATION
Koehler paper is exported worldwide, which
compels us to choose eco-friendly modes of
transportation. We have taken a major step in
this direction by moving certain transport
routes from the road to the water.
HARMLESS TO HEALTH
Koehler Decor Paper contains no materials
known to be hazardous to health and no
toxic substances, skin irritants or substances
known to cause allergic reactions.
