    The Skilled Helper Model

    Where is it from?

The following model is adapted by Russell Delderfield from Egan, G. (1998) The Skilled Helper

    Model: A Problem-Management and Opportunity-Development Approach to Helping, 8th

    edition,

    Belmont: Thomson Brooks/Cole.

    How does it work?

Egans model works in three stages, it works on problem-solving and highlighting a persons potential and tries to ascertain several paths through a decision. At its centre are the Deciders issues, rather than the agenda of the Helper. The Helper questions the Decider to help them arrive at

a sound decision. This is extremely useful for making decisions when there are a complexity of

    considerations and issues at stake.

It is designed to 'help people become better at helping themselves in their everyday lives' (Egan

    1998: 7-8).
