“Where Every Child Counts”

-

Picture your junior high child as a responsible young adult. How do you help them get there? Consider these ideas for planting the seeds of responsibility now so they’ll grow into the dependable person

you’re trying to raise.

Promote consistency Sticking to routines makes handling responsibilities a

natural part of your tween’s day. For instance, if he/she needs a tablet for school, they might charge it on the kitchen counter every night. Or suggest that they get everything ready for school every night before going to bed.

Pass the “baton” Imagine you’re in a relay race and you are passing the

“responsibility baton” to your child. Make the handoff by switching from giving instructions to asking questions. Let’s say they are getting ready for their choir concert. Instead of telling them to put on their dress shoes and find their sheet music, try saying, “What do you need to do to get ready?”

Discuss accountability Experience is an excellent teacher and it can make

your junior high student more responsible. Share an example from your own life (“I forgot about my doctor’s appointment, so now I have to pay a no-show fee”). Then explain what you learned (“I need to put appointments on my calendar right away”).

Christmas Dance

Santa and his Hippie Helpers are coming to town…..MJH Student Council will sponsor a toy

drive the month of December.

We’re accepting donations of new and unwrapped toys for all ages. The toys collected will be donated to the Toys for Tots campaign to benefit children in need. If you bring a toy, that can count as your admission into the Christmas Dance. Please turn it into Mrs. Manning or Mrs. Pennie so that they can put you on the “nice list” to get into the dance. We will except either your $5.00 or a new unwrapped toy at the door when

entering the cafeteria. If you do not plan on coming to the dance but you still want to donate, we will gladly accept! Great items to bring would be puzzles, games, dolls,

coloring books, colors, balls, toy trucks, stuffed animals, etc.

December 19th MJH’s Fall Fundraiser

Students at MJH are recognized and rewarded

for doing honorable deeds! Every other month,

students will be recognized for good character.

Students will have a catered luncheon consisting

of pizza and desserts in The Social House.

A group picture of these “Kids of Character”

will be taken and displayed in our showcase and on

our webpage. I am very proud of each and every one

of these students for doing the right thing by

portraying good character traits. These students

are making Mabank Junior High a better place to be!

Thank you!
