notes from the Directors

We would like to welcome you to VACT’s first ever Very Merry Home-town Christmas show! Starting in spring and summer of this year, we have been planning and coordinating our efforts to bring you the show you will see today!

Christmas is such a wonderful time of year … people share memories with friends and family ever year. At VACT, we consider everybody we do shows with to be part of our theater family so what better way to begin our celebrating this year than with a beautiful show to showcase all of the talented individuals we have in our organization!

This show has been enormously challenging to create – and we are so thankful to all of the members of our directing staff for assisting us throughout the process! Our vocal directors – Mickey, Kelsey, Amanda and Emerald – have dived into all of this music and helped our mem-bers sound as beautiful as they do! Our choreographers – Alyssa, Hay-ley and Angela – have assisted to create wonderful variety in the move-ment and dances. Our costumers – led by Donna and Sharon – have designed and coordinated hundreds of costumes for our cast! And our producer – Dee – has been supportive from the beginning, helping us to make this brainchild a reality! Additionally, we have so many others who are part of our technical crew ~ “Thank you all for your talent and leadership!”

Please enjoy our Very Merry Hometown Christmas show! We truly do wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Masha & Julie

who’s who in the crew

MARSHA HEUER (Director/Choreogra-pher) VACT is truly another home for Marsha. She met her husband Craig while auditioning for her first show with VACT in 2003 and the rest is history! VMHC marks Marsha’s 23rd show with VACT and she looks forward to being involved in many more! Favorite past VACT roles in-clude: Ulla in The Producers, Ado Annie in Oklahoma! and Corie Bratter in Bare-foot in the Park. She hold a degree in The-ater and Acting from UW-Madison and a teaching degree from UW-Platteville. When not working with VACT, Marsha can be found teaching social studies and theater in Sun Prairie. She is proud to be SPHS’s theater director and has cho-reographed for many area organizations as well. “Thanks to Craig for letting me ‘play’ again this year! Happy Holidays!”

JULIE MURPHY (Director) got involved with VACT in 2001 as an accompanist in Once Upon A Mattress and since she has been on stage and working back stage but her favorite role has been as a direc-tor. All of her shows she has directed are her favorites including Smokey Joes Café, Brigadoon, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers, and The Music Man. She hopes A Very Merry Hometown Christmas will be an audience favorite and make it an annual start to their Holiday Season. She would like to thank her husband Joe, kids Brian and Julian, for letting her out of the house for past 3 months. She would also like to thank Marsha for being an awe-some co-director and friend. Break a leg everyone!!!

EMERALD DOLL (Vocal Director) is so grateful to have worked with such a great production staff, and most importantly learned and bonded with amazing music directors. There’s not a thing vanilla about us. Thank you for the amazing experience. Emerald’s been with VACT since 2007 on stage, back stage, and as music direc-tor. Thanks for the wonderful memories. Here’s to making some more!

ALYSSA DVORAK (Choreographer) is very excited to be performing in this holi-day production. She has been performing with VACT since she was 8 years old. She has choreographed 10 children’s theater productions, two teen theater productions, and two summer productions including Shrek the Musical this past summer. Alys-sa is very excited to be making her directo-rial debut with Bring It On, The Musical this spring with the teen theater. Enjoy the show and Merry Christmas!

MICKEY LYTLE (Vocal Director, Re-hearsal Accompanist, Combo Pianist) A fiery redhead elementary music teacher is credited with instilling Mickey’s passion for the piano, accompanying, and Christ-mas music. Mickey’s been in the pits of countless VACT productions as accom-panist and music director, but this is her first time sharing the experience with her two kiddos. “ Special thanks to my SB and my BERRRRs for their love and support. Congrats to Ande on her stage debut! This is for Miss Fields and PaDa, little angels always sitting on my shoulder.”

DEE BALDOCK (Producer) is so happy to be working with this talented group of actors and staff. Since forming VACT in 1992, Dee has been in involved in most productions as producer, director or ac-tor. Her favorite roles are Alice in A..My Name Will Always be Alice, Mother Su-perior in Nunsense and Nunsense II and Melissa Frake in State Fair.

AMANDA REICHOLD (Vocal Director) is excited to be a part of A Very Merry Hometown Christmas and hopes that the show helps get you in the Christmas spirit! Previous shows with VACT include: How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (Miss Jones), You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown (Lucy), 42nd Street (Doro-thy Brock) and Annie (Miss Hannigan). She has also been involved with VACT by working backstage, being music director for Brigadoon and Smokey Joe’s Café and directing Oklahoma! Amanda has also been seen out and about in Oregon Straw Hat Players and Four Seasons Theatre pro-ductions and has sung with the Madison Opera Chorus. She teaches music by day at Netherwood Knoll Elementary School in Oregon to 506 amazing kids, but the most amazing kids in the universe are her own babies, Liam (4) and Fiona (2). Thank you to the fantastic MDs and my dear hubby, Dennis, for keeping me laughing and warming my heart. BERRRR!

KELSEY ODORIZZI (Vocal Director) is very excited to be vocal directing, as well as singing and dancing with such a talented group of people! Favorite roles include: Fiona in Shrek the Musical!, Kathy Seldon in Singing in the Rain, Belle in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Luisa in The Fantasticks. Much love and gratitude to her family and friends. Enjoy the show and Merry Christmas!

ANGELA MYERS (Choreographer) Christmas is Angela’s favorite time of year because of the family togetherness and love. So she jumped at the chance to be involved in a show that brings these feelings to life. Previously she worked on Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, High Society, and The Music Man with VACT. She could not do anything without the love and support of her family, Kevin and Alex.

HAYLEY MASON (Choreographer) is excited to be participating in A Very Mer-ry Hometown Christmas as both a per-former and choreographer. She would like to thank Marsha, Julie, Mickey, Kelsey, Amanda, Emerald, Angela, Alyssa, and Dee for being an incredible production staff-- there’s no one else she would rather exchange 4,286,942 text messages with! Hayley has been choreographing shows since 1999 and a member of VACT since 2008.

who’s who in the crew

DALE NICKELS (Sound Designer) has produced or directed several VACT shows and designed the sound for nearly every show since The Wizard of Oz in 1996. From time to time he shows up on stage. Most of the time he lives behind the sound board, dealing with the an increasing number of wireless microphones. Thanks to my lovely wife, Deb, for letting me play.

STEVE NICKELS (Light Design) Steve has been designing lights for VACT shows for over ten years now. He has also served in other roles, such as stage manager, producer, and occasionally even actor, but always manages to be involved with the lighting. He has most recently designed lights for VACT’s Heaven Can Wait, The Music Man, and the teen production of Bye Bye Birdie, for which he won a Tommy award for Outstanding Lighting Design. “May the Light shine on you!”
