I hope everyone has had a great week celebrating Thanksgiving. During this time, we tend to talk about all the things we are thankful for, and the blessings God has given to us. Of course, none of us live a perfect life; but we can all say that God has blessed us. Unfortunately, we can get to the point that we feel we are “owed” a blessing, or that God should bless us in certain ways. In 2 Kings, we see the account of a Syrian army officer who had a need to be blessed, but also had expectations of how it should be done. Naaman was a great soldier in the eyes of his king, Aram. He was highly respected because of the victories he had won in battle due to God’s help. Even though he was a great leader, his victories were greatly overshadowed by his skin disease. Naaman suffered from leprosy. During one of his battles, Naaman captured an Israelite girl to be the servant of his wife. Even though the girl had been taken from her land and forced to work as a servant, she told of the prophet Elisha, who could cure Naaman’s leprosy. With a blessing from his king, and plenty of gold and silver to buy his healing, Naaman headed to Israel to find Elisha. In a great processional, Naaman arrived at Elisha’s house expecting to be healed publicly. Instead, Elisha sent a servant out to tell Naaman to go and dip his body in the Jordan River seven times in order to be cleansed of his disease. This is not what Naaman was expecting. He expected Elisha himself to come out and call on the name of the Lord, and cure him on the spot. Not only did Naaman refuse the treatment he was offered, but he also criticized the Jordan River. It was not an acceptable river in his eyes, so he refused the miracle. Since Naaman was not willing to accept the blessing in the way it was to be delivered, he left Elisha’s house angry. Naaman was ready to walk away from a prophet of God, but his men had more faith than he did. Instead of witnessing a miracle, Naaman’s men witnessed his pride. Elisha’s directions did not come in the way Naaman had expected. Fortunately, Naaman’s servants were able to talk some sense into him and he finally decided to do what Elisha had instructed; so he experienced miraculous healing of his leprosy. God is the source of everything good. All blessings come from Him. There are no big blessings or little blessings. However, there is the risk of totally rejecting a blessing if we do not appreciate them when they come in ways that seem less than what we think we deserve. Fortunately for us, in God’s grace, He offers second chances. I hope as this holiday season begins that we are all thankful for what we have and we never take for granted the blessings God sends our way.

Church Security

For Security purposes, all exterior church doors except for the front door going into the Sanctuary will

be locked at 10:30 AM on Sunday mornings.

The only exception will be the breeze-way door which will be locked when the choir comes

through.

If you exit any of these doors after this time, please make sure that the

doors are completely closed and locked.

Candy For The Float

The kids will be riding a float for FBC during the Christmas Parade. If you would like to donate candy for the kids to give out, see Mary Moore or

drop the candy by the office.

Thank You Kairos Ministries would like to thank

each lady who made homemade cookies for the inmates during the

revival weekend. These men associate the home baked cookies with God's love for them and it touches hearts for the Lord that are not reached any other

way. Thank You and God bless each of you.
