A Merry and Blessed Christmas to You!
We’ve all seen images of the Golden Gate Bridge. Its
two colossal towers rising out of the waters of San
Francisco Bay, providing safe passage. Well, our Lord
provides something similar: safe passage over the rough
waters of this life via the “bridge of our faith.” And
that faith is upheld by two soaring towers we celebrate
during our Church year: Christmas and Easter. Without
the birth of Christ, and without his resurrection, we
don’t have much of a bridge to get from this life to the
next. But with Christmas and Easter, we have the foun-
dation of our life of faith; we have a firm foundation to
build a life of real hope. And so, as we celebrate
Christmas with family and friends, we celebrate the
first of the two towers of our faith: the birth of Christ.
May we take his birth to heart, and give thanks for what
our Lord has done; he has opened the golden gate to
salvation and said, “Come, follow me! And I will lead
you…home.”
Fr. Brian

PARISH/COMMUNITY EVENTS
"TIDbits: Theological Ideas from the Deacons"
The Domestic Church helps build the Kingdom of God
Families carry on the ministry of the Holy Family,
especially to other families. Pope Paul VI said: “Family
ought to be a place where the Gospel is transmitted and
from which the Gospel radiates. In a family conscious of
its mission, all the members evangelize and are evange-
lized. Family can become the evangelizer of many other
families, and of the neighborhood.” (Evangelii Nuntiandi
71, 1975)
As a faith-filled family, simply living as followers of
Christ, we become “islands of Christian life in an
unbelieving world.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church,
#1655) In this way, we share in the mission of the entire
Church. We fulfill this mission especially by being open to
all those living alone today, without a family of their
own. And, children growing up in a robust Domestic
Church are a blessing for the Church and society, now and
in the future. They will be our future priests, sisters,
deacons, even popes!
