President’s Report – Nov 2017

The National Rally is all done and dusted. What a great weekend it was, running around with

all the other Morrys, meeting great people, eating and drinking, all in our own backyard. That’s

the least amount of driving I will ever have to do to attend a National Rally.

It started on the Friday night with a dinner at the All Seasons in Bendigo with 80 people! Minor

Magic demonstrated various LED’s and we had a word from our sponsor, Daryl Meek of the

RACV who claimed to own a Morry (no evidence in sight). Saturday morning up early to get to

the Bendigo swap meet which is its own very special brand of madness. Then a rendezvous at

a cemetery for a delightful run to the Morris Garage at Harcourt, where the Morrys all lined up

on the lawn with a sensational view in the background. Saturday night found us at dinner at the

Wheelers Hill Hotel, after surviving a thunderstorm on the way to meet-up with our new friends

again and to see some more familiar faces. Next came Sunday and the main event, the show

and shine and did they ever! Although I never stopped talking I would have liked to chat with

some of the people about their passion for their Morries – there was one done up like the Holden

Efigy with a chopped back window, lowered to the ground, but better - it had flames! At the other

end of the spectrum there was a fairly original rusty one as well.

The dust still hasn’t settled, with the Rally Banners in my backroom waiting for me to figure out

how to auction them off.

Next year is the 70th Anniversary of the commencement of production of the Morris Minor and

calls for something special, so it looks like a trip to Canberra for the next National. It was so

pleasing to have someone step up for the next National Rally. The general feedback about the

change in format and the low-key approach was very positive, with a feeling of relief that now

people can do it their way.

On a personal note – HEK behaved herself very well even though I spent hours cleaning the

engine bay only to have the bonnet remain closed all day! I now have a new boot bottom to

replace the rusty bit I have now. A bit of a disappointment with the rocker cover racing – mine

jammed on its first run but really wasn’t a contender.

Congrats to Graham Dines for his speedy number, and points to my nephew Riley, for the bubble

belching beast.

A thoroughly exhausting but satisfying time.

See you at the Christmas dinner on the 7th – one week earlier than usual.

Braidy Davies,

President MMCCV.

Captain’s Report – December 2017

What a fantastic weekend the 18th Morris Minor National Rally / Day of the Morris Minor was. I

am sure that everyone who attended, either all or part of it, had a great time. It was exciting to

see Morries from as far away as Western Australia come and join in. I would like to thank

everyone who helped on the day and, as always, made it run a little smoother.

This month we have our Club Christmas Party on the 7th at the Yarra Valley Country Club in

Bulleen followed by the 13th Grand Day Out at Bundoora on the 10th. I hope to see you all there.

Keep on Morrying,

Stewart.

More details closer to the date.

Please think of any additional runs you would like to do this year. Consider the following suggestion…

Impromptu Runs or Pop-up Runs on a week day

The Committee would like to encourage members to welcome other members to join them on their private morrie runs during the week, or whenever, to increase social interaction of members in-between Club meetings and the monthly weekend runs. This has been difficult to arrange previously when relying on either the Generator or the monthly meeting to broadcast run arrangements but with almost everyone on the internet these days it should be possible to get this happening immediately following the simple procedure outlined below.

Page 17: December 2017 Volume 42 Number 12 - morrisminorvic.org.au Generator 2017.pdf · on the lawn with a sensational view in the background. Saturday night found us at dinner at the Wheelers

17

As soon as you have a run in mind, preferably at least with 48 hours notice, send an email to the Editor headed "Pop-up Run" giving details of date, time & place of meeting. (McDonalds are good mustering places for coffee and initial toilet visit) and details of intended destination and suggestions of BYO food or café etc. and your name and mobile phone number. The Editor will then immediately forward your e-mail to all Club members listed on the Club database. All you have to do then is turn up at the selected meeting point by the appointed time and a good time can be had by all. Feedback to the Club via any of the Committee members would be appreciated after such runs or at the next Club meeting. Please note that Pop-up runs are not intended to replace the monthly weekend run but be an additional Club activity.
