Parent Surveys for Before and After School Programs As of January 18, 2017, parents, of currently-enrolled Year 1/Junior Kindergarten students, will be provided with a survey to indicate interest for a Before and After School Licensed Child Care Program to potentially open. A minimum of 20 positive surveys and then 20 registrations will be needed in order to consider a program. During that same week, parents of currently-enrolled children from the ages of 6 -12 will be able to access a Before and After School survey online through the following link: https://soar.tcdsb.org/soarsurvey2/schoola

gesurvey.aspx A minimum of 25 positive surveys and then 25 registrations will be needed in order to consider a school-age program for 6 – 12 year olds. Before and After/After School Programs generally operate on a cost-recovery basis therefore minimum numbers are required in order to be financially-viable. Completed surveys (whether online or paper copies) are due by Friday, February 17, 2017. For school sites that have an existing Before and After School and or just After School Program (authorized recreation), parents are still welcome to complete the surveys to show interest in a program that may not currently be available in the school.

Grade 4 Scientists enthusiastically talk about their Fossils

Ms Cutone’s Grade 4 students put together their own fossil gallery. They were paleontologists and talked about the fossils they created and answered questions from visitors about fossils and the work that paleontologists do. The gallery was open all morning for students and teachers to view. Thank you to Ms. Hamid for initiating this enlightening project with the Grade 4’s.

Grade 5 Scientists Testing their Devices for the Egg Drop Challenge

The Grade 5 students made a variety of contraptions to protect a raw egg from cracking when thrown from a height. All watched nervously as the devices were dropped and a huge cheer followed when Ms. Cutone found that most of the eggs had not cracked. What a fun way to learn science!

Charity Assembly

On December 8th, Blessed Trinity had our Charity assembly. Students were asked to bring in some canned goods to be donated to The Good Sheppard food drive as part of the school’s WE and ShareLife campaign. Charity is a virtue and it’s important to show acts of charity in order to live our Catholic faith. After the assembly the teachers played volleyball against the BT Spartans’ Senior Boys’ and Girls’ Volleyball teams. Everyone had a blast!

Junior Achievement Financial Literacy Junior Achievement was fun and exciting as we learned new things. We learned a lot about managing money and budgeting by understanding the different jobs we can have and the salaries people are paid. People that spent over their budget would have to sacrifice some things if they wanted to save themselves financially. The people that were under their budget would get more. We learned about what it's like to be an adult along with fun games and icebreakers. It was great to learn about what it might be like in the future. It really taught us about the everyday things that adults have to go through to provide food and shelter for us. We also learned about different strategies we can use to be successful when we are older to get a job. Some of the different success strategies are if you have babysitting experience and have been given a lot of responsibility at home that means you are trustworthy and responsible. Another success strategy is if you have participated in volunteer work that means that you believe in the importance of giving back. Overall Junior Achievement was a great learning experience and we would love to have it again! (Shanteese H, Mariana L and Arielle P)

Thank you to the Ladies of the Rosary Apostolate for drawing us closer to Jesus and Mary.

Hip Hop Dance Lessons with CDM On November 29th to December 1st, the Blessed Trinity students participated in hip hop dance lessons taught by instructors from CDM Dance & Music. They got to learn cool moves and were shown how to use them when dancing to popular songs. The students had great time and BT would like to thank the wonderful dance instructors. This was a wonderful partnership between CDM and the school. The students are still talking about their experience. We are hoping to bring back CDM Dance & Music in the spring and have them perform for the students and parents. Parents if you would like more information on CDM Dance & Music School you can contact them at cdmdance.com or 416-497-1793.

December E-CSLIT Meeting at CEC

On December 1, 2016 the Catholic Leadership Team went to the CEC to attend the E-CSLIT meeting. For the challenge we did the egg drop challenge. Many schools participated and we are proud to say that our school was one of the three teams to win. There were a number of guest speakers. Our first guest speaker was Jenna Tenn-Yuk a spoken word artist and story teller who spoke about the importance of finding your voice, living out your passions, and stepping outside of your comfort zone.

Smile Leadership Camp

Smile Camp was an amazing opportunity for us to learn how to become leaders. We participated in a variety of activities which helped improve our leadership skills. Overall we wished all our classmates could have attended as we grew socially by being with students of ten other schools. We hope to use the skills we have learned and share all the ideas that can fill our leadership tool boxes. (Natalie Y and Blessing M)

Results of Our Cookie Dough Fundraiser The cookie dough and online sales was a huge success. The school is still waiting to find out how much money they will receive for all their hard work. The class with the most sales and winners of the pizza lunch and civvies day is Ms. Trabucco’s grade 3 class. They raised $1,158.00.

There is a tie for the top selling student. First place goes to Francesco M in Mr. Mac Sweeney’s class and Jaden F in Ms. Trabucco’s class. Second place goes to Aidan W in Ms. Trabucco’s class and there is a third place tie which goes to Jesiah G in Ms. Mastroianni’s class and Caitlin L in Ms. Sinajon’s class. Congratulations to the top sellers and thank you to everyone for making this fundraiser a huge success.
