The cheer inside the tent at theChamber’s annual Holiday Open Housechased away the rain on Tuesday, Dec. 6!Over 275 members and guests gatheredto usher in the holiday season. This eventlets the Chamber say “Thank you” to themembers who support us year long.Members’ donations of their business’time and food are essential to the event’ssuccess and are a great opportunity tohighlight those member businesses.

Founder Coach David Moore wasgrateful for the “care-tribution,” saying,“We are so blessed to have so many busi-nesses in the Farragut and west Knoxarea that truly care about their commu-nity; you’ve touched hundreds of kids inKnoxville and surrounding areas.”Care365’s Christmas Care assists areafamilies in crisis in providing childrenwith a “Needs” gift and a “Wants” gift.

It is hard to believe that anotheryear is coming to an end and newbeginnings are about to be made. As Iflip the calendar over this year, manythings will be different. Most of youalready know that I have given mynotice for retirement, effectiveDecember 31, 2016. It seems that itwas only a short time ago I arrived inTennessee to fortunately and veryquickly become the President of theFarragut West Knox Chamber. Littledid I know that this tremendousadventure would last almost 17 years!How lucky I am that I have somethingthat makes saying goodbye so hard.
I will cherish our history, the growthwe have made together, the friends,the good times, and yes, a few hardtimes that we have shared. I feel soblessed that God placed me in thisposition and gave me the opportunityto utilize skills I learned in other posi-tions prior to joining the Chamber thathave helped us succeed together.
To all of the wonderful people I havehad the opportunity to work with overthe years – Thank You! The timesshared, friendships forged and theincredible successes which we haveachieved have been an extraordinarypart of my life. I am very proud ofwhat we have achieved together and they are times that will never beforgotten.
Everything has a beginning and anend. The timing to end this chapterseems about as right as it could be. Iwish for all of you every success forthe future and a blessed Christmas,Holiday season and prosperous NewYear. Meet someone you have not metbefore and I will see you along theway.

How to build a valuable customer portfolioAs entrepreneurs we may find ourselves in a
situation where we have the “wrong” cus-tomers. Wrong in the sense that they are not asattractive and profitable as other potentialcustomers. So how do we find out who are theright customers for our particular business?
Segmentation reveals new customers.One way of identifying potential new cus-
tomer groups, whether you already have a lotof customers or not, is to make a systematicsegmentation of potential customers in yourmarket. Segmentation means dividing the mar-ket into similar categories, called segments,and then using these as the basis for the busi-ness’ sales and marketing efforts. There aremany advantages to this approach: First, bysegmenting the market, you will be able to dis-cover new customers you might never haveconsidered before, because segmentation pro-vides an overview of customers and highlightspreviously unexplored in areas of the market.
Secondly, segmentation allows you to priori-tize the absolute best customers for the partic-ular business you are in.
Finally, segmentation can provide inspira-tion to treat customers differently so that youcan adjust your products and marketing tomeet the various preferences and needs of dif-ferent customers.
