DePaul Field Trip

60 of our students with GPA's of 3.5 and above attended a trip to DePaul University. The students met with staff and students at the school and learned about how their work here at BOYCP will impact their possibilities of attending a school like DePaul in the near future. We discussed the impact a post secondary education has on your future economically and we also learned how important it is to attend an IB candidate school because Universities like DePaul take a closer looks at students who come from IB schools.

Ms. Nieto’s Advisory

Ms. Nieto's Advisory is working on a personal Project that deals with Culinary Arts, and Hospitality and Management. In order to get a better feel for the food industry, they visited Kennedy King Culinary Arts School. On this trip the students learned about several aspects of management in the food industry, they learned how to prepare a few dishes and they also got to taste a variety of dishes specially prepared for them by chefs at the school. Be sure to keep an eye out for more of the fundraisers this advisory will be sponsoring! This week, they will be delivering Candy Grams to advisories on Friday!

Ms. Alexander and the student council ran a food drive through November. We were able to send hundreds of canned goods to families in need just in time for Thanksgiving. Student council has many activities coming up in the next few months so make sure to keep an eye out for things that you could participate in because we need all bobcats involved! Student council representatives meet every Tuesday so be sure to let your rep know if you have any issues you need addressed, questions you need answered, suggestions you like to place or if there is an activity you would like to see happen. Student Council is here to represent the student body so make sure you communicate with your rep weekly and keep them up to date with any ideas you have.

For our 2nd unit in Drawing and Painting, the Sophomore students explored the concept of distortion in portraiture. Students discovered artists such as Henrietta Harris and Andy Denzler and learned about their artistic process and inspiration. Upon

learning about these artists, students also discussed the internal and external factors that

may influence an artist to distort a portrait. Are these artists concerned with identity? Body image?

Or are they simply trying to take portraiture in a new direction visually? In order to create their self-

portraits, students were introduced to the grid drawing technique, which allows an artist to take an image and

make it larger while maintaining the correct proportions. The students then took a photograph of

themselves and rendered the image using pencil on 16x20 inch paper. Throughout the duration of the project, students were required to distort their work, revealing pieces of the student’s identity. These drawings are a reflection of each person’s unique view of themselves not only as a person but also as an artist.

Students with a 2.5 GPA and no D's or F's were treated to attend a viewing of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. 400 people, including students and teachers, filled the theater as we watched the premier of this movie. The odds were definitely in our favor.

In the mood to read some action? Check out....The 5th Wave and The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancy After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother—or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

In the mood for horror/suspense? Check out.... We Were Liars by E. Lockhart A beautiful and distinguished family. A private island. A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy. A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive. A revolution. An accident. A secret. Lies upon lies. True love. The truth.
