Kindergarten Registration for September 2014 Registration for Kindergarten for September 2014 begins on January 6, 2014. Priority is given to students who already have siblings enrolled at Sikh Academy. We encourage all parents, who want to enrol their children in Kindergarten for September 2014, to enrol as soon as registration opens as spots fill up extremely quickly. Once allocated spots for Kindergarten are taken, it is not possible to ensure your child’s enrolment for the next year.
Sikh Academy Holiday Toy Drive Sikh Academy is accepting donations for children’s toys. You can support this great cause by sending any toys that your children have outgrown or do not play with. We are accepting donations until December 13th and if you have any questions please contact the office or see Ms. Dusanj (grade 2) who has done a great job of organizing the toy drive. Toys will be donated to the Salvation Army, who provides services for children and families in need.
Report Cards and Parent/Teacher Conferences Report cards will be distributed on December 12th and parents are encouraged to contact their child’s teacher to book an appointment for conferencing. These conferences help to bridge communication between school and home and support your child’s learning.
iPad Mobile Lab for Students Sikh Academy is happy to announce that it has purchased a mobile iPad Lab for students to use in their classrooms. The lab consists of 25 iPads, which teachers will bring in to their classrooms for students to use. The lab will provide students and teachers with a wealth of new opportunities and resources for teaching and learning, and reinforces Sikh Academy’s goal of being a high tech oriented school. Sikh Academy would like to thank the Parent Advisory Committee for their support in the purchase of the new lab. Without your support this new resource would not have been available for all students at Sikh Academy to use.

The school has also provided an additional Smart Board in the school library for all primary teachers and students to utilize for their lessons. The new boards are designed to enhance learning opportunities for all SA students.
Religious Assembly This month our religious assembly is focusing on the Shaheedi Divas of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s four sons, Chaar Sahibzade. Feel free to join us in our morning Gurdwara Sahib assembly on December 18 at 8:30am.
Surrey Memorial Fundraiser Students at Sikh Academy raised nearly $3000 for the Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation in November. The school topped this effort off, and donated a total of $5000 for the new Critical Care tower in Surrey Memorial Hospital. The efforts of the students and the school highlight Sikh Academy’s dedication to supporting our local community. Sikh Academy would like to thank all the students and families for their participation.
Sock Drive Sikh Academy students gathered over 750 pairs of socks to donate to the All Nations Youth Safe House. The program provides a safe place for Aboriginal Youth aged 16-‐18 in need of additional support services in our local community. Thanks to everyone for participating in the sock drive. These socks will keep someone in need’s feet toasty warm in the upcoming winter months. Thanks to the leadership group for organizing the event and to the Kindergarteners for bringing in the most socks!
