Well it's that time of year again. Time for all of the hustle
and bustle of life. The time of year when fistfights are
likely to break out over the tiniest of things. The time of
year where, according to many of my Facebook friends,
I must choose between being a Christian, saying all of the right
things and "liking" all of the right posts, or being a paganistic
heathen, wallowing in our materialistic X-mas ways!
The old Christmas song (non-Christian, by the way) says "It's the Most Wonderful
Time of the Year". For many people, myself included, this time of year brings
much heartache. Don't get me wrong! I love Christmas with Susan and the boys!
My heartache comes from watching the church, which can spend all year trying to
show love and mercy and grace, suddenly become mean-spirited and hateful
towards the very people they spent the previous 10-11 months trying to reach.
We, as Christians, can become so overbearing with our hatred towards "Happy
Holidays" or "Merry Xmas!". If it's not a happy holiday, then I assume you would
be perfectly content to go back to work on December 25. And besides, the word
"holiday" is a compound word that is derived from the two words "holy day". The
"X" has been used since the time of Jesus' resurrection as a symbol for the word
"Christ".
Maybe we just like being bent all out of shape. The problem with being bent out of
shape is that no one can tell what you are actually supposed to look like. Once
again, as I say every year, "The best way to keep Christ in Christmas this year is
to act like Christ this Christmas." So Happy Holidays and Merry Xmas to you from our King!!
See you Sunday!!
In His steps,
Tim

Elderly Expressions
By Dan Adams
Being a Team Member
Most of you probably know that the pastor and
elders meet every first and third Saturday of the month.
One week we discuss concerns of the church, direction
of the church, share a list of those know to have illnesses and pray.
The second week we discuss a book that we are all reading.
Currently the book we are reviewing is entitled “Church is a Team
Sport” by Jim Putman. The general theme is about how Real Life Ministries is
small group and team based. Because of their focused method of teaching
God’s love, caring for people and following up on the lost they saw
tremendous growth in a short period of time. As they grew they made a major
decision to continue to share the news of Christ in the manner they knew best.
Soon we will have a great challenge before us with the building
program. It is very possible that you will be asked to serve on a small team.
The focus of the team will be a little different than that of RLM in regards that
in addition to working to grow the kingdom we will be developing facilities to
better serve the family and community.
As our life should be, this project needs to be encompassed with
prayer. If, and when asked to serve remember that your service is for the
Coach (our Heavenly father). The One we are to be living our lives for.
Just a thought; one person can make a difference.
You may be the one.
In Christ,
Dan

The building project and Capitol campaign is still moving forward. The building
committee has had a meeting with the elders and it has been decided to move the Capitol Campaign from
starting in January to starting in March. The reason for this a number of things need to be accomplished
before the Capitol Campaign takes place. A number of teams have to be put together and trained for this
process. We decided to wait until after the holidays to take this on because we felt it would have a better
chance of success.
With this said I would like to have the support from the congregation by getting involved with these
teams. The leaders of these Teams will be filled in January, then the Team Leaders will approach others to
be on their team. Bill Walters with Church Growth Services advises that it takes 30% to 50% participation
from the congregation for us to be successful in this endeavor. When our Capitol Campaign begins in March
it will last for two and a half to three months. In this time span we as a church need to give the Campaign a
total commitment during this time. For this reason I am asking the different committees to consider not
scheduling major events during the three months of March, April and May. If you have any questions about
this upcoming process please fill free to ask. There are many reasons why we need this project to succeed
but it will only happen with everyone helps. I will keep everyone informed as to where we are in the process
in the coming weeks.

Scenes from the Thanksgiving Dinner, November 24
It's the most wonderful time of the year! It is time once again for our annual Christmas Breakfast. Mark
your calendars for December 22 at 9:00 a.m. sharp to taste the delicious breakfast provided by Family
Fellowship! There is no need to bring anything! Invite a friend to share in the fellowship! Hope to see you
there.
For 2014, Community Christian has picked up COACH KIDS as a Missions
Outreach. The following is from our own Susan Grasham who is the Director
of COACH KIDS in Clinton County.
YOU MATTER. You are valuable. God could use any type of messenger to
share His love for mankind, and He’s chosen you!
COACH Kids is all about the message that God loves you. God believes in
you. He’s made you for big things! He doesn’t want you to get so tangled up
in sin and hopelessness that He can’t bless you immeasurably.
At COACH Kids, those intentional relationships built on that message of hope are considered the absolute
best way to touch the lives of our youth and make a difference. We care, we love, and we dispense hope
through relationship.
COACH Kids seeks to reach our youth through meeting at schools (Local Heroes/ Local Heroes PLUS) to
reinforce that message of hope. We also see that the intentional relationship built by walking side-by-side in
life makes a difference (Children of HOPE/PROMISE). Group mentoring through The Crossing, Mommy
& Me and Parenting Matters provides those relationships, plus education and life-skills building.
Thank you, Community Christian Church, for your support of COACH Kids! We appreciate your
enthusiastic support of this ministry that hits so close to home. We pray that you know how much you
matter and how indispensable you are to God’s mission in Clinton County.

The senior high students will be attending ICYC (Indiana Christian Youth
Convention) on Friday, November 22 and Saturday, November 23. The conference revolves around 1 Peter
1:16 which states: 16
for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” (NIV). The events include speakers,
workshops, and concerts (including a performance by Crowder) on Friday night as well as opportunities to
attend workshops of their choice. The teens enjoyed the experience and learned about trusting their heart
with God and guarding their heart from things that are not pleasing to God
What have the Youth of Community Christian been up to??
. Sally Smith Co-coordinator
Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken,
and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe.
Hebrews 12:28
Thanksgiving is just a few days away. As we enter into this season of giving thanks, let us remember to be
more than thankful, but to go up a level and be grateful. Think about how often we say “thank you” in a
given day: Thank you when someone holds the door open for us, thank you when someone gives us a drink
of water, thank you when someone holds the elevator door open, thank you when someone does one of their
chores at home, and the list could go on and on. Oftentimes, “thank you” is merely a gesture. What if
Thanksgiving were renamed and called Gratefulgiving. You see being grateful comes with more feeling and
requires more effort than just a simple thank you. Gratitude involves awe and honor and even humbleness.
Saying “thank you” for all the things Jesus did for us including dying on the cross, doesn’t seem adequate.

Expressing gratitude for God’s gifts to us is much more appropriate. Perhaps the next time we are expected
to say “thank you” we should change our focus and attitude to one that is grateful. Even as we approach the
Christmas holiday season, what if our gift giving were more than just obligation or the expected thing to do?
What is our gifts stood for our gratitude to that person receiving the gift. Everything changes with the word
gratitude.
The Women’s Ministry has two events that will be coming up after Christmas. Both activities are going to
allow us to show our gratitude. On January 18th
, here at church, we will be having a scrapbooking day. For
those of you who have never scrapbooked we will have some simple make and take it activities for you to
try along with some experts who will teach us the basics of beginning scrapbooking. For those of you who
scrapbook already, this will be a great time away from the hustle and bustle of the world. It will be a quiet
time to work on your scrapbook projects. We will have a couple of meals in addition to some scrapbooking
supplies. The cost of the day will be $20.00
Proceeds from the day will go to help sponsor a veteran so they can fly to Washington D.C. to see the
memorial that honors their service. There are local veterans waiting to take this trip to our nation’s capital.
Proceeds from our scrapbook day will help pay the costs of the flight for a very deserving veteran. The
organization is called Honor Flight.
In addition to our January scrapbooking day, we are also planning to hold a senior citizens banquet with
entertainment in February. This will be a way to show our gratitude to our senior members who attend and
give so much to our church, Finally, do not forget about our Christmas play and dinner theater in Delphi on
Sunday evening, December 8th
. We are meeting at the church between 3:30 and 4:00 p.m. We will leave at
4:00 p.m. Carpool sign-up sheets are in the Welcome Center if you want to participate and we look forward
to a blessed evening of fellowship.
So as we enter into the holiday season, let’s let gratitude be present in our hearts and actions. Let’s
challenge ourselves to step it up a notch and instead of just saying “thank you”, we can express our gratitude
for the many blessings in our lives.
With a grateful heart,
Sally Smith, Women’s Ministry Chairman
WORSHIP MINISTRY - Sandy Street
Tis’ the season for lots of Christmas music. Christmas music is enjoyed by
all kinds of folks: Christian and non-Christian. It speaks to a special time of the
year and a special feeling of warmth and hope. I image that Christmas is one of
the very few holidays (outside of Easter) that really captures the true meaning of the
“Reason for Season - Jesus.”
We have our traditional Christmas hymns and songs such as “Silent Night”, “Away in a Manger”, O
Little town of Bethlehem, It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, Joy to the World, O Come all Ye Faithful”,
While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks By Night, O Holy Night” and I could go on for several more
paragraphs listing the Christmas hymns that we all love to listen to and sing.
I would like to encourage you also, to listen to some of the more contemporary Christmas songs that
are out there today. I’m going to list several and include the artists. You can Google these titles on the
10
internet, and listen to the songs through “YouTube.” Radio Stations such as Moody, K Love, and others are
already playing some of these songs now. I can’t think of any better way to get ready for Christmas than to
listen to great music that celebrates our Lord’s Birth!
“Christmas Worship” from Paul Balocke “Born is the King” by Hillsong United
“Christ Is Come” by Big Daddy Weave “When Hope Came Down” by Kari Jobe
“What Child is This?” by Building 429 “Emmanuel-Hallowed Manager” by Chris Tomlin

“God With Us” by Jeremy Camp “Christmas Time is Here” by MercyMe
“O For Joy” by David Crowder Band “Give This Christmas Away” by Matthew West &
“The Night Before Christmas” by Brandon Heath Amy Grant
“Hope Was Born this Night” by Sidewalk Prophets “What Child is This?” by Fernando Ortega
“O Come Let Us Adore Him” by Matt Redman
Of course, you go into almost any retail store and Christmas Music is in the air….some secular and
some religious. Regardless of whether you like to listen to music or not…..you will be subject to the sound
if you do any kind of shopping at all. My suggestion is to let the music flow through you, lighten your
heart, and put a smile on your face. Don’t think about all those packages and gifts and cards that need your
attention. Focus on the true meaning and the sounds of Christmas through the media of music!
May the story of Christmas fill your hearts with joy and as the words to the Christmas songs echo
throughout the season, may you know for sure that Jesus, the Messiah has come into this world and HE still
reigns!
Merry Christmas

Technology Report
Skip Davis
No matter how we view it, we live in an “immediate satisfaction” society.
Society wants complete information and answers to their questions now.
Delay is not an option.
It is important that we provide as much information as possible as we work toward meeting those demands.
One way is to provide good information about the programs we offer at Community. This includes
information on small groups, committees, worship services and other pieces information helpful in keeping
the community informed.
To that end, I ask all small group leaders, committee leaders, and others who provide programs and services
to our community to make sure we have the latest and most complete information for distribution on our
church’s web page and Facebook account. Information should include: what the group’s function is, what it
is studying or doing to help relate our community to God’s plan, meeting dates and times, and complete
contact information. Please submit this information to [email protected]. I will see to it that this
information is forwarded for use on Facebook. We have an opportunity to serve by providing more
complete information.
