People rave about the holiday décor that adorns Crocker Park.Last weekend, guests once again marveled at the annual

lighting of the 50-foot Holiday Tree, the amazing reindeertopiary, and the thousands upon thousands of lights that decorateeach and every tree at the lifestyle center.

Did you know that Crocker Park invested $1 million in theacquisition of these delightful displays?

More valuable, however, is the intent of the Crocker Parkdevelopment team to bring a priceless addition to the culturalcomposition of the West Shore community.

Crocker Park’s mission has been to truly become an answerto our region’s needs for renewed holiday traditions. Today’sparents and grandparents treasure special memories of trips todowntown Cleveland to visit the giant Christmas tree at Sterling-Linder, to chat with Mr. Jingling at Higbee’s, or visit Santa atThe Halle Bros. Crocker Park, as a leader in regionalreurbanization, has worked hard to fill the void of Cleveland’streasured past. Creating priceless images for our artfullyemergent downtown West Shore is the goal.

In six years since its grand opening, visitors to CrockerPark at holiday time ask the same question: “How many lightsare there on the trees at Crocker Park.”

The answer will astound you! There are around 500,000individual lights on the trees at Crocker Park!

All babies enter a world of the unknown. Some need a little miracle to survive. The 9th annual Gift of Life Gala supporting Fairview Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive

Care Unit (NICU) made sure those miracles will continue! The gala dinner and fundraiser was once again a great success in celebrating the

littlest among us at LaCentre in Westlake on Sat., Nov. 14.Dr. Jeffery Pietz, Director of Fairview’s NICU, was more than a little teary-eyed as

he thanked the 250 guests who generously raised support for families and babies in needat a very vulnerable time in life for all.

“Those of you who know me know that I choke up every year at this event,” he said.“And while it may be unprofessional for me to say this, I want to thank all who work atthe Fairview NICU. It is the best there is!”

Fred DeGrandis, CEO Cleveland Clinic Regional Hospitals, shared the gratitude.“They say the measure of a society is how it treats the very young and the very old. Withthis event, the measure of this community is so obvious by the outstanding generosityyou show to the youngest.”

Every year, many miracles emergefrom the Fairview NICU. Impossiblysmall and premature babies are given achance at life, many newborns withtremendous medical challenges arenursed through critical times, and thefamilies who survive are forever grateful.

“That is why it means so much tome to stand here and thank you forwhat you are doing,” saidDr. Pietz.

Debbie Norton andSusen Chadwick, Chairs, welcomed guests with ahearty thank-you andrecognition of the doctors, nurses and staff of theNICU who enjoyed thegala evening.

A moving musicaltestimonial and slideshowwas presented by TonyDiBenedetto, andentertainment personalityJoe Cronauer hosted a

lively auction of generous gifts. The many nurses and staff of the NICU even

gave bidders a rousing standing ovation at onepoint during Joe’s entertaining auction of excitingdonated gifts like great jewelry, trips, sports tickets and more.

“Believing in a cause that is bigger than yourself, that is really what it is all about,”commented Joe. He was assisted in the auction by former Cleveland Browns player DanFike, donated a week-long stay in Florida that even included air fare!

“This would not happen if not for you,” said Fred DeGrandis, CEO Cleveland ClinicRegional Hospitals, to guests as the auction began. Your generosity makes this possible.” Yes,there were many emotional moments as the littlest patients of the NICU family were celebratedfor the 9th year in a row. Proud parents, friends, family and medical staffers cheered, criedand celebrated together the victory of life and love the NICU success stories represent. “Theseare the true heroes,” said one guest observing a table of NICU nurses as they enjoyed theevening. Hosted by Community West Foundation and Fairview Hospital, the Gift of LifeGala is a loving tribute to the power ofcommunity and the spirit of life alive in the WestShore. Much gratitude is extended to the auctiondonors, and special thanks to the PediatrixMedical Group, Fairview Hospital, and FairviewHospital’s OB/GYN Physicians, Crystal StarSponsors of the event, as well as all the sponsorswho make this notable event possible!
