THE POWER OF LIGHT

DeCarlo has furthered its commitment to the environment with the installation of solarcollecting photovoltaic cells in two locations. Solar energy will now power the main factoryin San Basilio (pictured) along with an additional production facility located in Mottola,Italy. DeCarlo headquarters in San Basilio will produce 1,348,000 kWh per year, in additionto the plant in Mottola which will generate a total of 180,000 kWh annually.

DECARLO LABAs a result of a research project performed in collaboration

with the PRO.GE.S.A. (Design and Management of Agriculturaland Forest Systems) Department of the University of Bari,an internal laboratory has been set up at the company’sfacilities devoted to the research on and development oflacquering products. Every day, the lab provided with themost advanced equipment proves to be the best tool forthe constant control of the entire lacquering process: fromthe inspection for the acceptance of incoming lacqueringproducts to the monitoring of the environmental parametersat the lacquering plant, from the evaluation of suppliers andproposed lacquering cycles to the assessment of the qualityof the applied finishes.

Moreover, the available equipment enables to offerparticularly demanding customers the possibility of custom-made colours thanks to the use of a spectrophotometer andan associated colourmeter system.

The development and experimentation in this field enableto increasingly deepen the knowledge in relation to thebest combinations between types of wood and paints withthe help of a system for artificial ageing, which offers thepossibility of simulating the effects of exposure to weather(rain, UV rays, humidity, temperature variations) of the paintsin a short time.

WOOD GLASS curtain wallOur continuous glass façades entail the use of a grid of laminated oak with stiles andrails to be assembled on-site; the cross-section of the wooden stiles and rails may varyaccording to the different static requirements, depending on the wind load and the sizeof the façade modules. The façade offers the possibility of including different kinds ofwindows with suitable frame profiles adapted to the modules of the wooden bearingstructure. The following kinds of opening are available: casement, hinged-tilting, transomand projecting. The façade guarantees airtightness and watertightness and makes useof the “pressure equalization” principle. It also includes an outward draining system forpossible small infiltration problems consisting of special grooves on the profiles, whichalso serve the purpose of enabling ventilation around the glazing. The choice of thesoundproofing class of the façade should depend on the planned use of the interior andthe outer noise level.

High-quality laminated wood windows/doors with outeraluminium facing, structured so as to enable the insertionof a Venetian blind between the double glazing of thewooden window and the tempered glass of the aluminiumelement, opening separately. This integrated structureallows to vary solar radiation avoiding additional outerand/or inner sunscreens, reducing the need for cleaningthe Venetian blind to a minimum, as it is contained in aprotected environment. Thanks to an extremely widerange of inner and outer colour finishes, it perfectly suitsmodern and office settings.
