December Greetings,
It is the start of December and recent mild temper-
atures with our latest snow/rain showers have created
very slippery conditions on our streets and sidewalks.
Please be careful while doing outdoor activities.
During the month of November, we held a very re-
spectful Remembrance Day assembly on November 8th.
On November 13th, we celebrated “World Kindness
Day” by pledging to spread our kindness to one another.
All of our Grade 3-8 students attended Vincent Mas-
sey’s Major Production Matilda at the WMCA on No-
vember 14th. It was fun for all Meadows students and
staff see me get called up on to the stage to get thor-
oughly roasted by my own son Kobe who played the
“Danny Devito” character of the dad in Matilda.
We had 98% turn out for our Parent/Student/
Teacher conferenced in November. Our annual Staff
vs. Students volleyball game will be held on December
5th. I am predicting a very close match this year and
the students will give staff a run for their money.
I look forward to seeing everyone at our Meadows
Christmas concert on December 17th.
Have a festive December!

World Kindness Day Meadows School celebrated World Kindness Day on November 13th, 2019. Youth Revolution honored our teachers with a gift basked for the staff room and flowers for the staff room and office. The YR team also encour-aged students to contribute to our World Kindness Day Graffiti walls by adding kind comments about their teachers and friends. The celebration was good reminder to prac-tice kindness everyday.
Samaritan House- Centre Pieces
The YR team, along with the help of Mrs. Pie-roni’s crafty classroom, designed and created centre pieces for the Christmas Dinner host-ed by the Samaritan House. The centre piec-es are donated with the hope that Meadows can add beauty to this already spectacular community dinner.
Farm2School Fundraiser
THANK-YOU for your contributions to the Farm 2 School Vegetable fundraiser. The YR students will use the funds raised from this endeavour to enhance our school and local communities.
Parent council meetings are on the 3rd-Wednesday of the month. Child care is provided. The doors are always open for parents to join us. On behalf of parent council we would like you to wish you a very Merry Christmas!

reason for the absence. This is a way to ensure your
child's safety and attendance at school.
If your child is going to be absent or late, leaving ear-
ly, or picked up by someone other than their parents/
guardians, please ensure you notify our Home School
Liaison, Mrs. Airey at 204-729-3946.
Battle of the Books #6 All Grade 7/8 students are challenged to read 6/6 Battle titles from mid December to mid March, 2020. This will be out 6th Battle of the Books at Meadows. The titles from past years are posted on the wall in our library and act as a big support for choosing books to read from the library. Titles used in the past are “tried and true” so many great choices for 7/8 stu-dents. At least 1 of these titles will be a “read aloud” by classroom teachers. So, in reality, there are only 5 books for students to read on their own. Staff meet to choose the Battle Books each year and there is always 1 graphic novel, 1 indig-enous choice and usually 1 title from an author that has visited out school. Author Kevin Syl-vester visited Meadows in the fall of 2018, so his MINRS book is part of the Battle. Mrs. Lee the Teacher Librarian at Meadows will be meeting with 7/8 classes and staff in January and February to keep students motivated. On Battle Day, there are 4 person teams formed and then the teams answer relevant trivia about the books in about 6 round of ques-

Meadows Parent Council hosted a “Family Paint Night” on November 22nd. The night was a great success! Everyone had fun painting and visiting. Overall proceeds will go right back into the school, where the money will be used for field trips, science fair, classroom needs, etc. Thanks to all the people for helping set up and take down at the end of the evening.

Dear Parents/Guardians and Families,
As I am sure that you have noticed, the use and popularity of e-cigarettes and “vaping” has been increasing in Manitoba. These trends come after years of decreasing smoking rates across the province, particularly among youth.
This trend is concerning as the use of e-cigarettes is not without risk, with evidence emerging around addiction potential and harmful chemicals con-tained in the vaping liquid. Therefore, as a province, we want to ensure we are being proactive and that tobacco use is not simply being replaced by e-cigarettes.
My office has provided a reminder to all schools that the use of e-
cigarettes (as with conventional cigarettes) in any enclosed public space, including schools, is prohibited under The Smoking and Vapour Products Control Act. This prohibition is important to ensure that smoking, be it to-bacco or e-cigarettes, is not normalized or thought of as a risk-free activi-ty.
As e-cigarettes are a relatively new technology, we want to ensure that parents are also able to access clear and balanced information to be able to talk to their children. We know that nobody is more influential on a young person’s decisions than their parents and would therefore like to encourage you to explore the resources available from
Health Canada - www.canada.ca/en/services/health/publications/healthy-living/talking-teen-vaping-tip-sheet-parents.html
Please take the time to examine this information and to share it with oth-ers.
Best wishes for a successful and enjoyable school year.
