Dear Year 4 Walliams Class,
I hope you are all keeping well! Please find below some instructions for this week’s tasks…
• Times Tables Test – I am putting this into our home learning pack for this week – see how many
questions you can complete in 10 minutes! You may use a calculator afterwards only to check your
answers… Remember, I have all your times tables data so I’ll know if you’ve cheated…
• Maths – This week, we are going to look at place value, specifically focusing on rounding numbers
to the nearest 10, 100 and 1,000. Before you jump straight into the tasks, make sure you look
through the Maths PowerPoint uploaded on the website as this explains what to do.
• English – This week, we are going to start looking at our new writing topic – persuasive writing.
Before you jump straight into the tasks, make sure you look through the English PowerPoint
uploaded on the website as this explains what to do.
• Reading – Have a go at reading and answering the short comprehension activities, putting your Rex
Retriever skills to the test.
• Science – This week, you are going to start learning about Living Things and Their Habitats, as
part of our new ‘Frozen (Elsa not Included)’ topic. Before you jump straight into the tasks, make
sure you look through the Science PowerPoint uploaded on the website as this explains some key
information and what to do.
• Design & Technology – As part of our new topic, we are going to make bug hotels and bird feeders
to go outside. This week, I’d like you to research what a bug hotel is and to record your research
on the activity sheet below.
• Humanities – This half term we are going to look at different environments that different living
things live in. This week, research the Sahara Desert. Where is it? What living things live there?
What is the environment like? How is different to your local environment in the UK?
• PE – Why not try some yoga this week? Head over to YouTube and type ‘Cosmic Yoga’ into the
search box and choose a video to follow that you want to do.
• Spellings – There is a new list coming out this week and has been uploaded on the website. Make
sure you practise list 1, using the activities on the second page as a way of memorising them.
Finally, I am very wary that a lot of these tasks look like they require a printer. You don’t have to
print everything off… Instead, write down the answers for each task on some lined paper in a
notebook to save yourselves some ink and paper – this is fine
Please remember not to drive your families completely bonkers this week and to try and have a
go at all the activities. If you’re struggling to concentrate, focus on an activity for 30 minutes and
then take a quick brain-break for 5 minutes by running up and down the stairs (carefully please!),
making yourself a drink, making your adult a drink, having a quick snack, practising the latest TikTok
dance…
Stay safe and keep well!
Miss Hart.
