Volume 13, Issue 19 Friday, December 18, 2018 Dear School Family,
As I write this last piece for
the newsletter for 2018, I am
so encouraged with the
overall Year 12 results that
the school received today.
Emma Salerno is our Dux for 2018 achieving an
ATAR of 99.65 and also receiving Merits in all of
her 4 subjects, an outstanding effort and
achievement. It has been wonderful celebrating
the completion of the 2018 year. I have been
really impressed with how hard the students
have worked especially with exams on their last
day at school, they really deserve a well-earned
holiday break.
Our final Presentation Night at the Thebarton
Theatre was a stunning night and a wonderful
way to celebrate God’s provision throughout the
year. Our Performing Arts team provided
amazing items on the night and it was so
encouraging to see the incredible talents of our
students. It was sad to farewell our Year 12
students, they have been such a blessing to us.
It has been very special to be able to share this
season of their life journey. I pray for God’s
continued covering over them and that their faith
in God would continue to grow.
Our foundation scripture is from 1 Peter 2:5 ‘And
now God is building, you as living stones into His
spiritual temple’. It is from this scripture we
derive our name Temple and we the community,
the staff, students and families are these living
stones. Temple really is a very special
community and although our Year 12 students
now leave us they will always remain a part of us.
I would like to thank the Parents and Friends for
their support on the night in providing food and
drinks. Thank you to all the school families that
attended and supported the school on the night it
really was a wonderful celebration.
I trust and pray that the holiday break and
Christmas will be relaxing and refreshing. A final
farewell to the families who have now finished
their season with us. Thank you for your support.
I look forward to 2019 always confident that God
will be leading and guiding us.
As I write this last piece for the newsletter for 2018, I am so encouraged with the overall Year 12 results.

for entry into University.
Congratulations to Emma Salerno who achieved our highest score of

Music Performances Term 4
Junior Twilight Concert
On Thursday, 22 November, we held our annual Junior Twilight Concert.
This was a great opportunity for music students in Years 7-10 to perform
for family and friends. We had a wide variety of ensembles perform,
including Jazz Combo, who presented us with the funk standard
Watermelon Man. We also had our Junior String Ensemble perform the
reflective song Consider Christ, featuring Evie Connew on vocals. Liam
Nokes treated us to a solo performance of the Beatles’ classic Blackbird
on the electric guitar, followed by a collaboration between our Flute
Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble (performing Under the Sea, from
The Little Mermaid). We also had solo performances by Chengcheng
Zheng on double bass, and Owen Hill on clarinet. The Contemporary
Vocal Ensemble performed a fresh arrangement of Away in a Manger,
arranged by their director, Mr Greg Jones. The year 7 brass class were
able to display their new skills on trumpets and P-Bones, and we were
also delighted by the year 9 and 10 music classes who gave great
performances of a range of pop, Christian, and blues songs. Junior
Concert Band closed the night with a rendition of the Aretha Franklin
classic, Respect.
Thank you to all the family and friends who came to support the music
students. A big thank you to the staff who were involved in making the
event happen – particularly Mrs Olivia Nortkus, Mrs Kirsty Smith, Mr Brad
Adams and Mr Todd Purdy. Thanks also to Ms Suyeon Ro and Mr Jamie
Adam who have directed the String Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble,
respectively, this year. A special thanks to Suzie Enright and the Parents
& Friends Association for organising the barbeque and refreshments for
the evening.
The standard of the performances seen at the Twilight Concert keeps us
excited to see what each student and ensemble will be able to accomplish
as they progress throughout the years.
Christmas in the Markets
We took a number of ensembles to the Central Market to perform
Christmas carols on Friday, 30 November. Passers-by were entertained
by our Saxophone Ensemble, Flute Ensemble, Clarinet Ensemble, and
some students from the Year 10 Music Class. Thanks to Mrs Kirsty Smith,
Mrs Olivia Nortkus and Mr Brad Adams for making the day happen, and
thanks to the parents who came and watched on the day.
Year 8 Concert
Our Year 8 Concert in Recital Room on the afternoon of Thursday, 29
November. The Year 8 Green, Gold and Red music classes performed
one song each, including Look How He Lifted Me, In Tenderness, and
Take Courage. This year, we were also treated to two solo performances,
one by Kiana Meinel on vocals, and the other by Kaitlin Ready on violin.
The vocablokes also performed the well-known pop tune Hall of Fame by
The Script. A big thank you to the parents who came to support the
students. It was a great experience for them to be able to perform in front
of such an encouraging audience and work on their performance
skills. We look forward to seeing the students develop their music
skills over the coming years!

Year 12 Formal 2018. The Year 12 Formal was held last Thursday, 29 November, at the
Adelaide Pavilion in the Veale Gardens. It was a lovely, sunny
evening and parents and their children gathered for pre-dinner photos
and mingling in the gardens. The students all looked amazing and
there was an incredible buzz of excitement as everyone arrived. The
students and staff then enjoyed a three course meal in the Parkview
Room, overlooking the beautiful surrounds.
Throughout the night we enjoyed awards, a photo slideshow and a
musical item. After dinner, the action was on the dancefloor as the
students and staff showed off their moves.
Thank you so much to Paige Patterson and Emanuela Hailu for their
dedication in putting together the awards. Thank you also to the
parents and staff who supported the evening. It was a happy
celebration of fellowship at the end of a big year of hard work. We
pray that all of the members of the Class of 2018 have a rewarding
and fulfilling journey beyond school.

Year 7 Graduation
On Tuesday evening of Week 8 the Year 7 students participated in a
celebration evening. The focus of the evening was to present, to their
families, some of the learning which the students had participated in
over the year. Leading up to the evening, the students formed small
groups and chose the subject area which they would like to represent
on the evening. Students then selected a part of their learning, which
they wanted to present to their families, and prepared a brief
presentation.
The event was held in the foyer of the school and in the Student
Learning Hub so there was a buzz in that area of the school over the
evening. Families arrived and once all was prepared there was time
for all to enjoy some yummy food, coffee made by the Year 7s and a
time of community. Then there was a couple of musical items by some
of the Year 7s students and we were ready to start the presentations.
Students did a fantastic job of sharing their learning with their families
and with other families of the Year 7 students. The presentations were
fun, engaging and presented with enthusiasm.
The night facilitated connection between parents, students and staff
and allowed students to be able to show their families some of what
they were learning throughout the year. It was wonderful to see so
many people come along to celebrate with, and support, the Year 7
students. I am very proud of each and every Year 7 student, for their
efforts toward the night and for the way they embraced the opportunity
and shared their learning so well within the school community.
I sincerely thank the many staff, from different areas of the school,
who were integral in supporting the evening – both in the planning
stage and helping on the night.
Congratulations to the Year 7s for sharing their learning, skills and
enthusiasm with their families and the school community on Tuesday
night. Ms. Amanda Benger, Year 7 Coordinator

2018 Think Challenge!
On Wednesday, 21 November, 16 excited and enthusiastic Year 8
and 9 students accompanied Mr Tom Daly and me to Temple
Christian College, Paralowie to compete against a number of other
Christian schools in the inaugural Think Challenge!
This academic gala day required teams of eight to compete against
one another across a range of disciplines including: English, Logic
and Reasoning, Engineering, Mathematics, History and Politics,
Theology and Religion, Art and Poetry, General Knowledge, and
Science.
The day was divided into three sessions. In each session, a few tasks
from the above categories were allocated to each team and the
students had to quickly delegate who was going to work together to
complete particular tasks within the time limit.
Mr Daly and I were incredibly impressed with the way in which our
teams worked together within their groups. In previous meetings,
students had already discussed their areas of strengths and
weaknesses which meant they were able to quickly divide tasks,
without fuss. When students finished their components for the
session, they encouraged, supported and aided other team members
admirably.
From the moment we departed Mile End on the bus (where a few
Year 8s entertained us with a catch up Science lesson), to the very
end of the day, the students engaged in the activities with healthy
competition and positive mindsets. Mr Daly and I were proud of their
conduct and felt privileged to be part of such an exhilarating day.
The competition was tight, with Emmaus Christian College and our
two teams battling for the medals. In the end Temple Christian
College, Mile End won the day with one team coming first and the
other not too far behind in third!
We congratulate the following Gold medal winners:
Madeleine Burgess
Makayla Jarc-Birch
Hannah Koh
Lucy Pillar
Faith Sawers
Ben Veitch
Samuel Wabnitz
We also congratulate the following Bronze medal winners:
Xanib Bleakley

Will Grosser

“I really enjoyed participating in the Think Challenge! It was an
awesome opportunity to learn and also develop. The day was
challenging, but very rewarding. I loved being able to work with
people I wouldn't normally work with, like some Year 9 students. The
day wasn't about individually doing all the work, it was about working
as a team and collaborating with each other. Great effort to everyone
on my team! Overall, I loved the whole day (including the morning
tea!).” Maria Cho
It was a fun day enjoyed by all. A special thanks to Mrs Amanda
Anderson for her assistance in the preparation of the day and to the
staff at the Paralowie campus who organised the event so well.
Hopefully we will have the opportunity to enter the event again next
year! Mrs Kirsty Rickwood

Registrations close Thursday, January 24, 2019
The equivalent of two full Scholarships will be offered, providing a sufficiently high standard is reached by the top candidates.
Application Fee payable to ACER is $95.00.
Exciting changes to Second Hand Uniform We understand that it can be a very long time between when families bring
their second hand items in to the school and when they receive payment
as traditionally this would occur when the items were sold.
We have been reviewing our second hand processes at Temple and
starting in 2019 will implement the following change. Instead of paying
families when we sell their second hand items, you may now bring in your
second hand item to Temple and we will review and make an offer to buy
them from you. What this means for our families: Our families will receive
quicker payment for the second hand items and know how much they will
expect to receive.
ACCEPTING SECOND HAND UNIFORMS NOW
The commencement of Plant Club After the building of the new Greenhouse in the middle of term
3, plant club commenced.
Each week students have enjoyed mixing soil and starting pots
of many different kinds of succulents. These were kindly
donated by various friends and families. Many coloured pots
were also donated by Karkoo Nursery.
The next project we undertook was to make a pot of mixed
succulents to give as a present to someone. These look
fabulous with a coloured pot and bright ribbon around.
Special thanks to Noah G. and Bec L., both in Year 8, for their
energy and commitment to the set up and maintain plants. Also
to Mrs Schrapel and Ms Benger for being my partners in these
plant projects, it has been wonderful to get to know God’s
creation better as a group!
I look forward to what plant projects 2019 holds!
