Writing reports takes an average of 40 hours, with most of this work done on weekends and in the evenings. We are reporting against the new Victorian Curriculum again this year, so a progression point will be shown for each learning area assessed. Also there will be no prior score dots shown for each curriculum area, due to the whole state changing over to the Victorian Curriculum. Reports will be distributed together with portfolios on Friday 23 rd June. Parent Teacher Interviews will be held in the week beginning June 26 th . A sign-up sheet will be available on the door of your childs class for you to book in a time. We would encourage all parents to book an interview, as the teachers are able to give you a comprehensive view of where your child is at academically. 2018 Enrolments Whilst it is quite early in the year to be looking forward to 2018, it is very helpful if our prep enrolments for 2018 can be finalised over the coming weeks. It is our aim to know prep enrolments before August, to be able to put our numbers in the August Census. Please notify the office if one of your children is starting Prep with us in 2018. We would also appreciate you getting the word out there about Monbulk Primary and what it has to offer to families looking for a school. Student of the Month Well done to our students who received Student of the Month for May. District Cross Country Congratulations to all the students who participated in the District Cross Country. Well done to the following students who have made it to the next level: Brock D, Jed F, Natalie F, Emma C, Aden H, Madeline L, Tildy S, Rihanna K, Scarlett E, Sami B, Harper S, Rylan K, Jack H. Monbulk Pre-School You may or not be aware that we are the Licensee for the Monbulk Pre-School. This means that the School oversees the running of the Pre-School. If you know of any families look-ing for a wonderful Pre-School please encourage them to visit our kinder.

Writing Moderation PD Last Wednesday the teachers started work on developing a whole school Writing Moderation booklet. This booklet will contain samples of writing pieces from all genres and all year levels. The teachers will be able to use this as a marking guide when assessing the students’ writing. Facebook Page We now have a facebook page to help with advertising our school and the wonderful things that are happening in the school. It is also another avenue to get important messages out quickly to families. We will be following strict guidelines to make it safe for students by only putting students in a group photo on the page. Those students also must have a permission form signed. You should have received a form giving permission for your child to be on the page to be returned to the office as soon as possible. We will also not be putting any names on facebook.

Cold Weather Clothing At school, our priority is to provide opportunity for the students to play outside whenever possible. In addition to playtimes, there are also a number of occasions when class activities mean that our students are outside for extended periods of time.

Please check with your children to make sure that they have enough clothing to keep them warm outside, when it is very cold. It can only help in keeping those nasty winter bugs at bay. Also if possible encourage your children to bring a wet weather jacket to wear. Lost Property Now there is so much lost property and we need you to check if it is your child’s uniform. We are going to display it to the children on Friday and it will be available for checking all next week. If any item is unclaimed it will be going over to our Op-Shop. Attitude to School Survey Last week the Year 4-6 students completed an online survey about their experience at Monbulk Primary School. They answered questions around the effectiveness of the teacher, how confident they feel as a learner and how safe they feel at school. The results of this survey will help us see what areas we are doing well in as a school and any areas that may need improving. For example, our past surveys have shown us that the students’ learning confidence is not as high as other areas on the survey. So we are looking into how we can improve that. Sherbrooke Cottage visit Last week the elderly citizens from Sherbrooke Cottage visited our Year 5/6 classes. The Year 5/6s have been studying history so it was wonderful for them to hear what school and life was like for the elderly, compared to today. The students asked great questions and showed respect to the visitors. Last year Sherbrooke Cottage visited our kitchen garden, so we are hoping to make it an annual event.

Have a great weekend! Lynn Ordish

I acknowledge and pay respects to the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation, their

Ngurungaeta-Murrundindi, and their Elders, as the Traditional Owners of the land on which the School stands.

Unique program developed in Israel helping kids with reading, writing, con-centration & learning difficulties.

A natural, drug free program developed in Israel is giving hope to kids in Melbourne. Intelligence Integration program has helped thousands of children and adults in Israel and the USA experiencing difficulties with reading (dyslexia), writing (dysgraphia), auditory processing disorder (APD), attention deficit (ADD/ADHD) and concentration. The cen-tre for cognitive and mediated learning solutions in Dallas Texas (TCCMLS) is currently working towards introducing Intelligence Integration program into 9000 schools in Dal-las. Tony Andrews, teacher of Intelligence Integration Australia says that contrary to popular perception, learning difficul-ties has nothing to do with our academic capacity. Usually they represent the inability of the body to carry out tasks. Intelligence Integration Australia has been and can be a natural alternative for many of these difficulties. It is re-ferred to as “the physical natural foundation of learning” because it looks to the body as the primary source of such difficulties. Tony argues that while medications may treat symptoms, finding the root source of the difficulty and building key neural networks that can improve these abili-ties with a natural treatment, can help to resolve or signifi-cantly improve the problem altogether. “A prestigious health magazine in Israel calls this program one of the 100 milestones in the history of alternative health”

My 9yr old son completed the program with Tony over the last six months. Max was troubled at school due to lack of focus and a great sense of failure. He didn’t think he was “good” at anything which greatly affected his ability to enjoy or process what he was being taught. Last year the school wanted him to repeat grade 2 as he was very behind. Tony recommended I didn’t keep him back as he was sure he could help. Max is now at the level expected for grade 3 and thriving. This program not only helped Max’s self-confidence, but has given him life lessons in perseverance, focus, stress management and the ability to find the emo-tional words to describe how he really feels inside rather than bottling then up and feeling worthless. As a Mother I now have some extra tools to help my son if he ever feels overwhelmed. Thankyou Tony. www.intelligenceintegrationaustralia.com.au Phone 0425703353.
