Dear Parents and Caregivers,
The 2017 school year is officially over!!
It has been a busy and productive year so it is now time to recharge the batteries and enjoy
some quality ‘down time’ with family and friends.
Yesterday’s Graduation was such a success. The Year 6 students did themselves and their
families proud. Thank you to Mrs Gibbon and Mr Heyting for the work that went into preparing
them so well for the occasion.
I received many compliments on how professionally the ceremony was put together. Guest
Speaker and former student, Basil Zempilas entertained us with memories of his years as a
student at Floreat.

Many photos were taken to mark the occasion which will no doubt be very special to our
graduating students, and the parents who were former students at school with him!
Before signing off, I would like to thank Rod Cohen and Mark Walters for their support in
leading this wonderful school, and all our staff, teaching and non-teaching for being such a
great team to work with.
Special thanks to Mr Bowman, Mrs Power, Mrs Blackwell and Mrs Keers for their contributions;
although we will not see them at Floreat in the same capacity next year, we wish them well in
their future endeavours.
Please find below the organisational chart for 2018 accurate at 14 December 2017

My very best wishes to you all,

IMPORTANT CLASSROOM NAME AND NUMBER CHANGES
In 2018 most classrooms will have a change of number.
Classrooms 1 -4 will remain the same. Please refer to the attached map for the new number
system.
We will also refer to classes by the year level and teacher initial. For example Mr Heyting’s
Year 6 class will be called Year 6 H.
Classes that have tandem teachers will be called by the year level and both teachers initials
e.g. Mrs Prentice and Mrs Mitchell will be called Year 3PM.
Please find below the organisational chart for 2018 (accurate as at 14 December 2017) and a
map of the new room numbers.

Year 6 Graduation
Year 6 students celebrated the end of the year with their graduation ceremony. They put on a
magnificent show and performed beautifully in front of a big audience.
Our special guest, Basil Zempilas, gave a fantastic speech about his time at Floreat Park and
how fondly he remembers his time here. Although still disappointed about not winning the
citizenship award when he graduated, Basil gave the students plenty of positives to remember
from their time here.
A big thank you to our wonderful Year 6 parents who helped to hang the portraits and make
the undercover area look so special for the big day and congratulations to all the award
winners.
We would like to also thank the Year 5 parents for organising such a spectacular morning tea
for the graduating students and their families.

School Banking
A very big thank you to our banking team, Kate Weaver, Karina Wong and Penelope Hickman. Everyone has enjoyed bringing their pocket money in on Wednesday mornings to be greeted
by your smiling faces.
Thank you for setting things up and making the deposits every week. It has been a positive introduction to banking and saving money for many children.

Help Required
During the school holidays, there will be times when assistance is required in performing certain tasks around the school.
The shifting of the seed beds is the primary task at present. At this moment in time, I have several projects associated with this shift.
1. Shifting seed beds from Library area to behind the BER building including the soil
2. Filtering soil prior to depositing it into seed beds
3. Reticulating newly placed beds
4. Shifting Mulch to newly placed beds
5. Cleaning up the area once beds have been removed
6. Resolving old reticulation plumbing in old bed area
7. Placing Mulch behind gardeners and Cleaners shed fronting all along Forum facing side
If you are able to volunteer in assisting me in some capacity from Monday 8th January 2018 it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact me via email
Also if any one happens to own a bob cat or anything that could assist, I would also be very interested in this as well.
Thanks in advance.

Book Swap Fair
This is the third year, the Year 6 students have organised the Book Swap Fair.
We received lots of pre loved books that had been beautifully looked after.
The fair is a great way to promote not only reading but the environmental message of
reducing waste and reusing.
Hold onto your books for next year’s fair!

Year 3 – 5 Students Start Swimming NOW!!
With summer approaching and in the interest of preparation for our faction swimming carnival
and defending our interschool swimming title in Term 1, 2018, we are encouraging students to
commence swimming training.
David Locke from Red Sharks Swimming Squad at HBF Stadium is the head coach and will be
training our squad in Term 1 2018. We are trialling a slightly different system next year
offering training to any student in Year 4 – 6 who is interested in improving their strength,
stroke and stamina in the pool ready for the faction carnival.
It is expected that students aiming for a place in the interschool team will attend training.
The interschool team will be selected from the faction carnival results. Swimming squad will
be at HBF Stadium during Term 1 between weeks 2 – 9.
The specific mornings of training will be announced shortly. Costs and registration forms will
be sent out towards the end of term.
David is conducting training sessions this term. For more details:

We use a number of methods to communicate with parents to help let you know what is
happening in the school and with your children:
FlexiBuzz (previously TiqBiz) – This is our main form of communication as it is easily
accessible by parents.
Emails—important notes are emailed to parents by the office staff on a regular basis. Class
teachers also send emails to their class parents about information relevant to their students.
For information specific to your child, please call in and speak to the teacher to make an
appointment or email the teacher directly.
