Dear Padre March 22, 2020
Why does the Church honor St. Joseph?
Saint Joseph was chosen by the Lord to be the spouse of Mary and a guardian of the Word Incarnate, Jesus Christ. The little we know about Joseph is taken from the Gospels. In the Book of Matthew, we learn that Mary is betrothed to Joseph, “a righteous man” (Matthew 1:19). When Joseph learns that Mary is already with child, he decides to dismiss her quietly so as not to disgrace her publicly. But an angel of the Lord appears to him in a dream and tells him not to be afraid to take Mary as his wife and informs him that she will bear the child of the Holy Spirit, the one who will come to save people from their sins. Joseph obeys the angel without question. Joseph heeds God’s call once again when instructed by an angel of the Lord to flee Bethlehem to escape the murderous Herod. Matthew tells us: “Joseph rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed for Egypt” (Matthew 2:14). It is this faithfulness, this steadfast and complete trust in God, that makes Joseph such a wonderful example for us, and for this, the Church honors him.

Sherlock Holmes and his smart assistant, Dr. Watson, go on a camping trip, enjoy a heavy barbeque dinner with a bottle of whisky, set up their tent, and fall asleep. Some hours later, Holmes wakes his faithful friend. "Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see." Watson replies, "I see millions of stars." "What does that tell you?” Watson ponders for a minute. "Astronomically speaking, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, it tells me that Saturn is in Leo. Time wise, it appears to be approximately a quarter past three. Theologically, it's evident the Lord is all powerful and we are small and insignificant. Meteorologically, it seems we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. What does it tell you?” Holmes is silent for a moment, then speaks. "Watson, you idiot, someone has stolen our tent.” Watson had missed the most obvious. He was clever enough to notice the complexities of the stars, but he missed what was plain and simple. Today’s Gospel reading is about a whole lot of people who miss the point. In Jesus’ healing of a blind man, the Pharisees missed the most evident point that it was a real miracle by Divine intervention. In their spiritual blindness they refused to see beyond their belief that the man’s blindness was a result of sin. Jesus urges us to look beyond our own blindness to see God at work in our lives. Simply and incredibly, he wants us to know that he loves us, and nothing we do will change that. Let us seek the good that our God has for us and in lov-ing mercy reach out to share his light in this dark world. In Christ,
Pray, Hope, and Don’t Worry! ~St Pio of Pietrelcina

MESSAGE FROM BISHOP KAGAN ABOUT HEALTH CRISIS Effective Thursday, March 19, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. and until further notice, all daily and Sunday Masses are cancelled in the Diocese of Bismarck. This applies to all parishes, oratories, and chapels used for public worship. The Catholic faithful within the territory of the Diocese of Bismarck are dispensed from the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days. All parish religious education classes are cancelled until further notice. Our Catholics schools are following the directives of the State and will remain closed until such time as it is deemed safe to reopen. Parents are asked to follow the directions given by their local Catholic schools. Priests will be expected to offer Holy Mass privately every day if possible and to be available to provide the anointing of the sick and viaticum to all the Catholic faithful. Please call your parish office with any special sacramental and spiritual need. Each Parish is to keep its Church open during the day for the benefit of those who wish to pray in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. What all of us must do in these days is not lose hope in the merciful goodness of Almighty God. Even though we will not be physically close to one another at this time, by our fervent and humble prayer for each other and all who are ill and affected, we remain united in the powerful Communion of Saints. Let us continue to beg Our Mother of Perpetual Help and Saint Joseph, Guardian of the Holy Family and Patron of the Universal Church, to assist us in our time of need by their powerful intercession. I offer to all of you my daily prayers and my blessing. Let us accompany one another and everyone on this holy journey of healing and purification. “O, Mother of Perpetual Help, pray for us.” Most Rev. David D. Kagan
MEMORARE Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled
to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought
thy intercession was left unaided.
Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee,
O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I
come; before thee I stand, sinful and
sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy
hear and answer me. Amen.
First Holy Communion may be rescheduled.
We will be in contact with parents as we learn more.
Please be patient.
PREP News The diocese has asked us
to cancel all religious classes. We will come to
school to deliver books and next year’s registration
forms for students to take home. Parents are asked
to home school until further notice (it’s not hard).
Pain is never permanent. ~St. Theresa of Avila

Do A Mass on Sunday Bishop Kagan
recommends going to the Cathedral website to view daily and Sunday Mass or the televised Mass on FOX TV on Sundays at 10 am
and 11:30 pm. The diocesan website will have more details about livestream
Masses.
EWTN has daily Mass, Rosary
and kid-friendly programing for your Sunday worship time
or any time.
Don’t Stress out, Stretch out (your hands in prayer)
Now that we cannot gather together at the church for
Liturgy it is even more important than ever to pray; especially as a family. Spend some time Sunday morning to watch Mass together or pray
a Rosary. Remember The Christians won the Battle of Lepanto with the people
praying the Rosary. Prayer can win this battle, too.
Our Lady of Victory, pray for us!
