29 June 2020 Dear Class 3 What a scorcher of a day we had on both Wednesday and Thursday last week! Have you been enjoying this beautiful weather? To keep yourselves safe in the sun, try to: spend time in the shade between 11am and 3pm cover up with suitable clothing, including a hat and sunglasses use at least factor 30 sunscreen Find activities and information related to sun safety at: https://soltansunready.com/for-families I hope you all enjoyed International Olympic Day. Well done to LKn’s family for hosting their very own Mini-Olympics, complete with rules, a scoring system and whole family action! What fun! I have not received photos of this from many of you so far so please send them in! We celebrated the day in school too. We learned about the history of the Olympics, we designed posters about different Olympic sports, and hosted our own Mini-Olympics, which involved us trying out sports such as javelin, discus and volleyball for the first time. Remember to keep up with your 60 minutes a day of physical activity. I will email you all the ‘Active July’ calendar this week to help inspire your activities each day. Try keeping an ‘Active Diary’ for a week, just to see how much you actually do – you might surprise yourself! Year 6, please continue to work on your presentations for your Leavers’ Service and don’t forget to let me know your plans via email! Mrs Taylor asked me to write: ‘Sadly, we have been unable to run the gardening club this term. However, I would like to say a big thank you to Mrs T and the Year 6 group for clearing all the weeds and preparing the beds for future planting, and to Mrs Watts and the key worker group for planting my marigolds and helping to feed and water them at the front of the school.’ Finally, although I haven’t managed to get a photo of me and my antics this week for you, I thought I’d share some of my homework with you. Throughout lockdown, I have been trying to make my own cards to send when it is a relative’s birthday or celebration. Here is my Father’s Day card that I sketched, using a photo of my Dad’s beloved cocker spaniel, Canny. He really liked it – I hope you do too! Best Wishes Mrs Tinniswood

Dear Class 3

• spend time in the shade between 11am and 3pm • cover up with suitable clothing, including a hat and sunglasses • use at least factor 30 sunscreen

Maths

Go www.whiterosemaths.com. Select the Home Learning page and go to Week 10. Please watch the video and complete the activity for at least 3 tasks. I will email you the worksheets and the answers.

Number Problem: Perfect Numbers What numbers go into 6 exactly? 6, 3, 2 and 1 do. Do you notice that 6 = 3 + 2 + 1? 6 is called a perfect number because it is equal to the sum of the other numbers which go into it exactly. What is the next perfect number? Please note: Our free subscription to TT Rock stars will end on Tuesday 30 June and we will not be continuing as feedback was mixed.

English - My Island

You are continuing with your writing project based on the theme ‘My Island’. Please email this week’s work by Friday 3 July to [email protected] . Reading Continue to read every day and try to read aloud to a family member on a regular basis. Don’t forget to use your ‘Sharing the love of reading’ sheet that I emailed you on 8 June. Log on to Curriculum Visions. Go to English, then Comprehension. Select ‘Voyages’ and then open the task titled ‘Sir Francis Drake’. If this is too challenging, an adult may read the text and questions to you. This task can be completed in your Reading Journals. Writing Strange noises are heard in the night! You have got to investigate these strange sounds and end up having a conversation with someone or something that you can’t actually see! Was it a person, a creature or a made-up character that lives on your island? Write out your conversation using speech punctuation correctly. I will be looking for the following features in this week’s task: Year 5 – super synonyms for ‘said’. For example: “Who are you?” he whispered timidly. Year 6 – features of the language of speech. This could include: contractions (such as who’s or shan’t), informal language or dialect (such as ‘wanna’ instead of want to) and use punctuation to show interruptions (such as “I…can’t…believe…”)

Spelling This week, we are revising words from the statutory word list. I will email the Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check sheet to you. Practise the words throughout the week before having a go at the test set as a 2Do. I would like Mrs Taylor’s spelling group to practise another 10 words from the Spelling word list I emailed to you on 8 June.
