Milford Sound

A drive up the fabulous Eglington Valley , through scenery you would not have thought still possible. This is a place of peace , quietness & quite unique. With native trees , ferns , bush , forna , birds , along with babbling streams and sweet drinking water from the mountain

tops. There are two options when you reach Milford Sounds. Firstly, there is walking tour on the Milford Track, which would take approximately 4 days to complete. Supposedly the best walking trail in New Zealand, it offers a fantastic scenic trail. But remember the raincoat and repellants. I didn’t have the time, so I opted for the day cruise that took us to the Mitre Peak, Anita Bay and a few falls. The weather that day was clear but extremely windy. Do bring a raincoat and be prepared to get wet, when the boat docks within touching distance of one of the falls.

Doubtful Sounds

Doubtful Sound is the deepest of the 14 fiords in the Fiordland National Park and is 3 times longer than Milford Sound, with a surface area 10 times larger. The fiord remains untouched to this day and has spectacular towering cliffs clothed in luxurient rainforest. There are also 365 islands in the fiord one for each day of the year. The first European to discover the fiord was Captain Cook in 1770 and he gave the name Doubtful Sound because he refused to sail into the fiord as he was doubtful whether he could sail out because of the lack of wind. This lack of wind makes Doubtful Sound a very peaceful and serene place and a destination that all visitors to this country should see, as it ranks as one of the scenic highlights if not the scenic highlight of New Zealand.
