Data Centre Transformation Resource Manager Jun 11 – May 12

Program Model Office (Asia Pacific) - Hewlett Packard (Contractor)

Hewlett Packard Enterprise Services (HPES), is a global business and information technology services company

which is an arm of Hewlett Packard (HP). HP is the world’s largest IT company with annual revenues of more than

$127 billion and 324,000 employees, doing business with over 2,000 clients in more than 170 countries.

Responsibilities:

HPES was tasked with transforming 32 data centres down to 4 in the Asia Pacific Region for all its major clients.

My role included working with the architects and major stake holders to identify and implement over a 100

resources that were required over a 2-3 year period. In this role, I had to create job descriptions for roles varying

from senior architects, engineers, project managers, schedulers and business analysts through to support staff. I

was responsible for the external advertisement of these roles, conducting multi-stage interviews, hiring and on-

boarding these new staff. Originally hired on a 6 month contract, I received a 6 month extension due to the ongoing

requirement for further project consultancy and the management of the staff on this data centre consolidation

project.

Achievements:

Interviewed over 120 staff and hired 70 with 0% turnover in the first 6 months.

Resource Management of these 70 staff including production of work utilisation reports and forecasting

Responsibilities:

I managed multiple teams, each constituting up to 30 staff that engineered and supported server platforms on

Windows, VMWare, Unix, Citrix and Email / Collaborative Systems (Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes and

Sharepoint) throughout Asia Pacific. I thrived upon the challenge of building cohesive and high achieving units with

members from diverse cultural and technical backgrounds. I was the driving force behind the implementation of,

and adherence to, Quality Management Systems for engineering teams which resulted in ISO9001 accreditation

across Australia. The clients my teams supported spanned across many industries including GM, Fonterra, Kraft,

Bank of Queensland, CBA, Westpac, GMAC, Bristol Myers Squibb, Tabcorp, Australian Taxation Office, Vic

Roads, DAFF (Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry), Customs, Shell & the Singapore Government.

I learnt a great deal with regard to the strategies and challenges of merging staff in large corporations, playing a

significant role in the restructure of EDS and HP Engineering Teams in the Asia Pacific region. Specifically, I

managed the transition of over 200 staff from EDS to HP which included consolidation and relocation of computer

systems, real estate and staff. I found my involvement in the downsizing of staff across different geographical

locations and my role as the OH&S Manager of 750 staff of EDS in Victoria, Australia extremely challenging and

further emphasised the value of being intuitive and compassionate with regard to employees’ requirements and

desires. All of these challenges were surpassed due to my superior project management and coordination skills.

Achievements:

Recruited, trained and established a high performing Asia-Pacific messaging team that included email,

instant messaging and collaborative technologies across multiple platforms.

Major involvement in the setup and running of many best shore teams throughout Asia Pacific including

India, China, Malaysia and New Zealand.

Continually worked on and supplied staff for new bids which included successful account start ups ranging

from $150 million to over $1 billon accounts.

Created a workflow system to inform senior management of staff’s utilisation of work hours vs contractual

deliverables. 80% staff utilisation expected but had team continually delivering at over 100% utilisation.

Client Delivery Manager and Solutions Architect Oct 00 – Feb 04

General Motors Asia-Pacific Account - EDS Australia

Responsibilities:

Based upon the expertise I gained in EDS Europe, I was promoted to a Solutions Architect for EDS Australia on the

General Motors Holden (GMH) account. My directive was to introduce the latest technologies to GMH, a task which

I found both testing and rewarding. In consultation with my counterparts at GMH, I continually provided proposals

to supply solutions as per GMH’s request. The largest of which resulted in the management and coordination of

consolidating messaging and database delivery of Lotus Notes/Domino Services and Internet Web Browsing

Services for clients in over 10 countries throughout Asia Pacific. I managed over 25 staff, over a 3 year period, to

implement the solution successfully in various stages and I took great pride in the achievements of my team and

overall success of the project. I also played a significant role in the transition of the Korean car manufacturer

Daewoo into GMH.

Achievements:

Designed and implemented modification of email and collaboration systems, including consolidation of

hardware and resources throughout the Asia Pacific Region to be inline with US and European standards.

This included consolidating over 100 servers to 15 servers allowing for growth of up to 10,000 users.

Designed solutions to integrate Daewoo’s computer systems and data into GMH’s computer systems over

a 3 year period. This involved many systems including Network, Messaging & Collaboration and File and

Print systems.

Designed and implemented Web promotion systems for many of Holden’s departments and businesses.

All achievements were met due to my superior coordination and project management skills.

Europe. With exceptional communication skills and an ability to motivate and galvanise teams, I was promoted to

Operations Manager of 30 staff located in the UK, Belgium & Germany and travelled within Europe on a weekly

basis. My team of 30 then worked closely with 2 other teams to form 1 collaborative team of 100 strong engineers. I

thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of bringing together this somewhat dysfunctional unit and transgressing the

cultural and geographical barriers that were evident. I gained valuable insight into international processes and

business directive and the experience was enriching. Customers included BP, Vauxhall, Opel, Coca Cola, SKF,

GMAC & MATEV.

Achievements:

Established a cohesive and highly productive European Messaging Team comprising members from

culturally and geographically diverse backgrounds

management role. Upon returning to Australia, I was appointed as a Team Leader for engineers supporting and
