INVESTMENTS FOR THE FUTURE

NEW STEPS TOWARDS A LOW CARBON ECONOMY

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau continues to remind all Canadians that the federal government is committed to growing our economy in a sustainable way. We believe in a balance – a healthy environment and a prosperous economy must go hand in hand. After 10 years of negligible action by the previous government – our national government has stepped up to do our part to reduce our carbon emissions and to move towards a low carbon economy. We have signed the Paris Accord and reaffirmed our commitment after the US has indicated that they would withdraw from the Accord. We have signed a Pan-Canadian Framework with all provinces and territories and have put a price on carbon. This reduces pollution and gives the incentive to companies to innovate and create cleaner solutions. We’ve introduced the Oceans Protection Plan to preserve our coastlines. This is the largest investment ever made to protect Canada’s coasts and waterways. Finally we’ve kept our promise to Canadians and introduced a bill to remove oil tankers from BC’s north coast. I know many Davenport residents oppose pipeline projects. A committed environmentalist, I understand concerns about new pipelines. I also recognize the need to serve all of Canadians through the sustainable development of our resources while honouring our Paris Accord targets and commitments. I am encouraged that our government has modernized the way we do environmental assessments. We are restoring credibility in these important processes to ensure that they carry the confidence of Canadians. We have a new system that is fair and robust, respects the rights of Indigenous peoples, is based on scientific evidence, and will protect our environment for generations to come. I know that this issue remains a top priority for constituents in Davenport as it does with the federal government. Together, we are working with provinces, Indigenous peoples, businesses, communities and all Canadians to build a more sustainable, cleaner, and prosperous economy that will create good jobs now and in the future. This is not only good for business. We owe it to our kids and grandkids.

Canada is committed to a low carbon economy. What more specific leadership would you like to see from the federal

government?
