Club PicnicCome One, Come All – Help Celebrate 50 Years of Great Cycling and Camaraderie!

NFBC’s summer picnic will be held Sunday, August 25th, 2019 at Como Park. The picnic will commence after the morning rides. 9:00 a.m. ride sign-in will be in the second parking lot from the Como Park Blvd entrance (on the left; by the ice rink). Ride and picnic parking can be found there or by the picnic location, the Large Gazebo within view (with nearby restrooms for changing). Ride options are: 17.4 mi (EZ), 21.7 mi (EZ), 34 mi (MD), and 45.2 mi (Diff).

The picnic is free for all members. If you haven’t paid your membership dues yet, here’s your big chance (cash or check made to NFBC, please). Family members/guests are welcome. Please be sure to include them as you RSVP so that we order enough food.

A catered lunch will be served, starting at 12:45 pm. Register your attendance after your ride or as you arrive (if you are not riding) and get your raffle ticket. Tasty vegetarian and gluten-free options will be available. In addition to the meal, the Club will supply water, iced tea, and lemonade. Other beverages are Bring Your Own.

The Dessert Competition is back! All you creative, competitive, hard-charging Chefs – you know who you are – bring us your best. Place the name of your dessert on the top, and the name of the dessert and your name on the bottom. If you are riding, bring your dessert to the Gazebo prior to your ride. Please make provisions if it needs to remain chilled. There will be prizes!

We will have live entertainment and activities commemorating NFBC’s 50th. Bring your memories and anecdotes, including names of those who have helped you out over the years.

RSVP by Thursday, August 15th : [email protected] or text 716-688-3943. Include number of guests.

Our terrific committee includes: Cindy Adams, Michelle Bates, Joan Charleson, Paula Ciolko, Arlyne and Richard Lepie, Gene Melnyk, Rebecca Ribis, Elaine Rubenstein, and Michele Smith.

See you there to party hearty! Jane Armbruster

Overheard after a ride...repairing your bike!

Riders were discussing bike repairs — from performing basic tune-ups to more complicated repair and replacement. General complaints were about the need to have the right tool for the job, some of which are bike-brand specific and prohibitively expensive.

One resource: GObike Buffalo Community Workshop, 98 Colvin Ave in Buffalo, has a workshop available to members, stocked with every tool imaginable! Member cyclists can take classes and learn how to tune up and fix a bike, or they can just use the shop to work on their bike. Mechanics are available to help, or you can work on your bike by yourself. The shop has a supply of used parts, and completely refurbished bicycles for sale.

Membership costs $35/year. The website is gobikebuffalo.org.

One more thing: They will happily accept donations of used bicycles, tools and accessories for the community workshop. These donations are used for recycle-a- bicycle classes at schools and community centers, donated to those in need, and fixed and resold to support the workshop.

Thanks Jason!

NFBC Newsletter Deadline

The deadline for submission of articles to the Newsletter is the twelfth (12th) of the month preceding the month in which the information is to appear. We welcome articles or story ideas about club members or club activities and digital pictures of either, with captions. Send to Joan

Charleson or Mike Maher.

Party Rules

For NFBC members, biking is number one followed by socializing with friends. Get togethers are organized by volunteers in the club who enjoy hosting parties. The host(ess) supplies the facility, main course, soft drinks and, of course, time and energy. Those who attend bring a dish to share, a beverage of their choice, and funds for the “kitty” to offset the expenses of the host. Bring a

lawn chair. Be a welcomed party goer and do your share to make these get togethers continued successes for the club.

Help Spread Sunshine

On behalf of the NFBC we will send a note of cheer to someone who may need it. Notify Terry Turski ([email protected], 688-8904) or Brenda Fischer, Club President. NFBC cares about its people!
