Dear All,
Garden Groups
From Reception to Year Four the children are spilt into six garden groups.
These groups are named after famous gardens: Kew, Heligan, Exbury,
Babylon, Eden and Furzey. Over the course of the year the children will
occasionally work in their garden groups where it is a natural way for our
learners to work collaboratively with one another. As part of our garden
group system the children have been earning petal points for excellent
behaviour, attitude, work, effort and following our school expectations.
These points are gradually accumulating and a running total is revealed
each week in our Pick of the Bunch Assembly. At the end of each half term
the total number of petal points are counted, verified and the winning
garden is announced. For all those who are part of that garden a special
treat is rewarded.
We are delighted to announce that the winning garden for the first half
term was……
KEW
On Friday 2nd November the winning
Garden group were invited to a
special afternoon tea. They all arrived
excitedly at the door with a sense of
pride for themselves and their team.
They enjoyed a delicious selection of
cakes, interesting conversations and
refreshing drinks as they all
celebrated their success. Well done to
all of those in Kew; we are so proud of
each and every one of you.

Poole and East Dorset Playground Leaders Academy
Five newly appointed Year 4 Sports Ambassadors were invited to attend the Poole and East Dorset Playground
Leaders Academy on 19th October at Ferndown Sports Centre. Along with 16 other schools from the surrounding
area the children participated in a variety of workshops. The workshops were all aimed at aiding the Ambassadors
to promote the positive values of sport and a healthy lifestyle through increasing participation in physical activity at
their own school during the lunchtime period.
The Sports Ambassadors engaged in all areas of the training from the planning to the
delivering and supporting of all age groups in a variety of sports and activities.
Broadstone First School can be proud of the way our learners represented the school
with exemplary behaviour and thrilled that they all walked away having achieved Bronze
Ambassador status.
Our Sports Ambassadors now have the important role over the coming months of not
only implementing all the skills and ideas they learnt into the playground but also in
continuing their work as role models and being the children’s voice on Sport and
Physical Activity at Broadstone First School.
Broadstone Come Dancing
With the increasing dilemma of finding ways to increase exercise and activity in children, our Year 1 learners have
been inspired by the famous Strictly Come Dancing stars. They have been learning a range of routines from
Ballroom to Latin as they get their heartbeats racing and improve their fitness. They will be sharing their newfound
love of dancing with parents and the local community in promoting dance as a fun, enjoyable way to exercise. Get
those dancing shoes ready and remember….…keep dancing!
Odd Socks
On Monday 12th November children and staff wore odd socks to school to mark the start of
Anti-Bullying Week. It was an opportunity for children to express themselves and celebrate
their individuality and what makes us all unique! Throughout the week children explored our
value of respect and what this looks like as well as discussing the definition of bullying and
who children can talk to if they are worried or upset about something.
Times Tables Rock Star
When it comes to times tables, speed and accuracy are important – the more facts your child remembers, the
easier it is for them to tackle harder calculations. Times Table Rock Stars is a fun and challenging programme
designed to help learners master the times tables! To be a Times Table Rock Star they will need to answer
multiplication facts in less than 3 seconds! We have already seen great success. Key stage 1 boys are leading the
way with lifetime earnings for Charlie W, Max D and Lucas D already topping the leader boards with huge lifetime
coins of 78416, 63765 and 34684 respectively. We are also seeing enormous success is with Key stage 2 boys
with speeds of under 3 seconds from Beau L, Sam S and James D!

Everyone a Leader ~ Everyone a Learner
To help your child join in the hype, enter play.ttrockstars.com into your browser’s address bar. Click Login! > School > Student. Enter school name. Enter your child's username (usually the first 3 letters of first name and first 3 letters of surname) and a 3 letter password that the class teachers will have. Choose Garage mode to answer the questions the class teacher has set. It will include multiplication and division questions. The Garage is best for getting quicker at a few facts. Players get 10 coins per question. Choose studio mode to answer questions which can be anything up to 12×12. TT Rock Stars calculates their response time from their last 10 games in the Studio and translates that time into a Rock Status. Your child will need to play studio mode to get a Rock Status. The higher their earnings, speed and Rock Status the more chance they have of having a VIP lunch with Mrs Wood and the possibility of arriving at school in a LIMOUSINE like a real Rock Star!
Good luck Rock Stars!
