Eating Time at the College – Please Discuss With Your Child/ren

For the first part of lunch, leading up to 1:00pm each day all students sit in designated eating areas to consume

their lunch. In the first couple of days of this term it has been noted by staff that a great deal of sandwiches have

been found in the accompanying bins at the completion of eating time with only small parts eaten, and on some

occasions, nothing eaten at all. It is important that students have a healthy and hearty lunch each day and whilst we

will endeavour to monitor this closely as a staff, I would also encourage parents to have a chat with their child

about this same issue.

Production – DVD available

A DVD of the evening performance of the production is currently being edited and will be available to purchase from the College office next week for $15 each. Office staff will keep a list of students who have paid and I will deliver these DVDs to students once they become available.

A friendly reminder is extended to any students who borrowed costumes or props from either myself or other staff or students to return these items as soon as possible.

Congratulations Hugh!

Congratulations are extended to Year 9 student Hugh C, who recently won first place in

the Novice Category Quick Shear at the St Arnaud Show. Hugh finished with a time of

Super effort Hugh!!!

Private Speech Sessions

Availability will shortly open up for another 2 students of kinder or school age to under-

take private speech sessions with Laura-Jane of Talk It Up Speech Pathology. These sessions take place at the

College on a fortnightly basis, assisting families in accessing this much sought after service, and preventing the

need to take a full day off school to attend an appointment in Bendigo or Echuca. Laura-Jane has established a

tremendous rapport with all students who currently attend sessions, and the positive results gains that have

been noted with current students have been most positive.

If this service is something that you would like to know more about, please do not hesitate to make contact with

our College Office, or alternatively you may wish to talk directly with Laura-Jane on 0438 006 445.

Feel free to also take a look at Talk It Up’s website - http://www.talkitupbendigo.com/

I hope that you all have a great Term 4!

) Fourth Term

Our students have seen some tremendous achievements over the last three terms and together we look forward

to finishing off the last few months with enthusiasm and excitement, achieving personal learning goals and ensur-

ing each individual attains their personal best. We know and appreciate the hard work and dedication put in by

families to support their child and hope that, like us, you will maintain the momentum. Teachers, students and

families working together can achieve incredible things, as most will have seen over the last 9 months.

Please maintain the love of learning by providing your child with valuable experiences: first hand, through

books or through media or conversation. Talk is the foundation of all our literacy learning so engage your

child in quality conversation whenever you get the opportunity. Model and expect good grammar and

nurture a rich vocabulary by introducing them to new words.

Remember it is essential to maintain daily reading so that students have opportunities to practise skills learnt

at school.

Practising spelling with your child as skills reinforced are readily transferred into both reading and writing.

Our children grow up so fast so please take the opportunity to make the most of every precious moment you have

together.

Little Visitors

This morning Lisa and Abby organised for us to see and learn about two ped-

igree Kelpie puppies, which are bred and trained by Luke. It was a tremen-

dous language enrichment activity which will generate work on writing In-

formation Texts.

Grandparents/ Special Friends Day

This event is scheduled for Tuesday 31st October from 8:45 until 11:30. We

hope that invitations have made it to your child’s special guest and that as many are able to attend the morning as

possible. Please remember, we need replies returned to school by Friday 20th October as the Parents Association

would like to know how many guests will be attending the morning tea so that they can cater accordingly. The $5

contribution for morning tea can be made on the morning.

P-4 Excursion November 14th

This Term we will be visiting Echuca for a guided tour of the wharf area, followed

by a paddleboat ride up the Murray River. The focus will be Humanities (Early Eu-

ropean settlement), although it remain important to acknowledge first Australian

history, and English language. The cost of the day is $18 per student. A note and

Permission form will be coming home soon. Next year, ScienceWorks, Melbourne

will have completed its refurbishment and we look forward to returning to that

component of our Excursion cycle.

College Athletics Sports

The College Athletics sports are on Thursday 27th October. It would be great if you can attend the day but we un-

derstand that some parents will have commitments (such as work) they must attend to.

Term 3 Maths Pathway Champion Class

The title of Maths Pathway Champion Class is awarded to the class with the highest average growth rate for the term, and there was no doubt about the winners in Term 3! The Year 6 class achieved an outstanding average growth rate of 166%, well in front of the Year 8 class who had an average growth rate of 135%. All of the other classes have improved their results this term as well, and the Year 9 class are the ones to watch out for if they can keep up their most recent class average! The Year 6 class was presented with the MP Champion Class Cup at the Middle Years Sub School Assembly in recognition of this fantastic achievement.

Deutsche Nachrichten

This week Frau Mac was notified that the film made by Klasse 6, “Zwei Picknicks im Wald 2011 und 3017” has

been short-listed in the primary section of the German Schools Film Competition. Gut gemacht, Klasse 6. The

theme ‘Germany in 3017’ used film from when Klasse 6 when they were in Preps, ‘Ein Picknick im Wald’ and

mixed it with how they thought a picnic would be in Germany in 3017. Presentation of the winners will be held

next Thursday down in Melbourne. This clashes with the School’s Athletics Day, therefore Frau Mac will be

going down to Melbourne and hopefully collect a prize. Chelsea H and Jessica D in Klasse 10 are beginning to

think about their exchange to Germany. They will be leaving for Germany near the end of November (Hate to

be the person to tell them that they can only have 20 kilos for luggage). Klasse 5 have been practicing the song

‘Kleiderkauf’, which they will be preforming at the German Day. The song ‘Tanz in die Lederhosen’ is also being

learnt by Klasse 5. Permission forms have been giving out to the students in Klasse 5 und 6 who do German. I

have been successful in my application for funding to help cover some of the costs for the excursion.

Our Middle Years Newsletter has changed! All teachers have begun to communicate with parents regularly via a

program called Bloomz rather than updates in the school newsletter.

If you are a Middle Year’s parent and have not joined Bloomz, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher.

Some general Middle Years information will still appear in the newsletter occasionally.

Middle Years Captains Report

This week we have started practicing for the athletics, Next week on Monday there is a

Year 7/8 excursion to Latrobe university and there is a Year 7 science excursion on

Tuesday. We hope you all had a great holiday and start to the term.

Year 4 Transition begins

This week our Year 4’s kicked off

their transition to Middle Years

with reading pairs with the Year

7’s. These classes will buddy up

for the rest of the term to begin

familiarisation with classes and students they’ll be with in 2018. More to come.

WALK TO SCHOOL WEEK Next week is “Walk to School Week” and to celebrate this at East Loddon P-12 College, Mr Young has organ-ised some walking activities to be held at lunch time on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The Loddon Shire in conjunction with the Victorian Institute of Sport are sponsoring the following Olympic Ath-letes to attend our College on Wednesday, Rio bronze medallist ALEC POTTS (archery), and Australian Under 23 hockey player (and Tokyo Olympics aspirant) HAYLEY PADGET. It is also planned for a third athlete to attend and we awaiting confirmation of who it is. This is an exciting opportunity for our students to meet with professional athletes and receive some tips and encouragement on how they can excel in their chosen fields.

LODDON YOUTH HEALTH EXPO “HEAD TO TOE HEALTH” Just a quick reminder that around 150 young people in Years 9 and 10 from the regions schools will gather in Boort on Tuesday, 17th of October for the Biannual Loddon Youth Health Expo. The Expo in its 8th cycle provides the opportunity for Loddon youth to not only hear the latest health infor-mation and to encourage positive decision making but to also explore career choices and to ensure awareness of the local services available to them. This year’s Expo will feature keynote speaker, Sonia Karras from Whole New World. Sonia will share her vast knowledge in the area of drugs, alcohol, keeping safe and celebrating safely, she has a unique, no nonsense and humorous approach which leaves her audiences informed, entertained and with memories that will stay with them for years to come. Sonia has 10 years’ experience in the Hospitality Industry and almost 13 years presenting her award-winning program. Following Sonia’s presentation, local service providers will provide a range of workshops on mental health, relationships, body image, drumming, healthy eating/food choices and career decision making. The event is a partnership between local schools and services, including Northern District Community Health, Inglewood and Districts Health Service, Loddon Shire Council and School Nurses from the Department of Edu-cation. The Loddon Shire, Bendigo Bank, Cardboard Cartons, Inglewood, and District Health Service have pro-vided vital sponsorship this year. Students are attending from Boort District School, Wedderburn Secondary College, East Loddon p-12 and Pyra-mid Hill P-10. Permission forms have been sent home with all Years 9 and 10 students and these have to be signed and re-turned for your child to be able to attend. Students who are not attending are required to attend school in full uniform. Lunch and buses will be provided free of charge and students are expected to wear comfortable, casual clothing to enable participation in the activities.
