Event Name: Plantation and awareness on sanitation

NSS Volunteers of Dept of CSE of K L E F has Conducted “Plantation and awareness on sanitation”

on 09th August, 2019 in one of the village adopted by the K L University i.e Chirravur as a part of this NSS

Volunteers from Unit-7, NSS Program Officer(Dr P Yellamma),Faculty Members Mr jampani satish babu

and Dr Krishna Mohan from department of CSE are involved.

On the day of the event, all the 53 NSS volunteers along with faculty started from the college at

10.30 am in bus and reached the Chirravur by 10.45 am.

Summary of the Event

After reaching the villages, volunteers met the panchayat member and identified the

places to do Plantation activity. Two to Three places are identified for the event.

* Distributing plants to villagers *

Some of our Volunteers had visited every house and distributed saplings and made

them aware of importance of trees and adverse effect of deforestation. Most of the villagers

showed a great interest towards planting trees and, they gave an assurance that they will take

care of them. And few volunteers planted saplings and geo-tagged them using the kobo-

collect app.

Along with the plantation we gave awareness regarding sanitation problem. As rainy season

is a dreaded season for the health hazards, such as infections and diseases that it

accompanies. Diseases such as malaria, respiratory tract infections, pneumonia, polio,

typhoid and common cold are common during monsoons. We given few precautions on how

to keep your surroundings clean and hygiene.

Event Name: Plantation

NSS Volunteers of Department of Computer Science and Engineering of K L E F has

Conducted “Plantation” on 16th August, 2019 in one of the village adopted by the K L

University i.e Mangalgiri as a part of this NSS Volunteers from Unit - 7 and Unit - 1, both

units program officers (Dr P. Yellamma and P. Naveen ) and Dr Raju Anitha mam are

involved.

On the day of the event, all the 140 NSS volunteers along with faculty and Program

officers started from the college at 10:30 am in bus and reached the destination by 11.00 am.


After reaching the village, volunteers identified the places to do plantation activity.

Two places are identified for the event.

On reaching the venue students are divided into groups, each tasked with different

responsibilities of digging, planting, watering and geo-tagging using KoBo – collect app.

The purpose of tree plantation is to save the endangered environment and to beautify

our life. All the volunteers are happy and experience proud after the tree plantation event was

finished, because it really feels great to do positive for the nature.

Event Name: Plantation

NSS Volunteers of Dept of CSE of K L E F has Conducted “Plantation” on 23 rd

August, 2019 in one of the village adopted by the K L E Fs i.e Chirravur as a part of this NSS

Volunteers from Unit-7, Program Officer (Dr P. Yellamma) and J. Manikandan sir are

involved.

On the day of the event, all the 20 NSS volunteers along with faculty started from the

college at 10.15 am in bus and reached the Chirravur by 10.30 am.


After reaching the village, volunteers met the panchayat member and identified

the places to do Plantation activity. The panchayat members arranged all the equipment

needed to plant. We have taken 80 saplings to plant.

Volunteers gone through various streets and planted saplings by digging pits and

watered them.

In future to know the status of the plant we attached the geographical

information (latitude, longitude and distance) of the plant using the Kobo-Collect

application.

Finally we distributed some of the plants to the villagers who are interested to

grow plants in their surroundings.

Event Name: Plantation and GIS Mapping

NSS Volunteers of Dept of CSE of K L E F has Conducted “Geo-Tagging and

Plantation, GIS mapping, Interaction with the Students” on 06 th September 2019, in one of

the village i.e Mustabada as a part of this NSS Volunteers from Unit-7,Program Officer Dr

P.Yellamma and Dr Raju Anitha mam are involved.

After reaching the village, volunteers met the high school teachers and identified the

places to do Plantation activity in School. Divided the Volunteers into groups and conducted

the events. A group planted saplings in the premises of the school and geo-tagged the plants

using kobo-collect app. Our team planted nearly 200 saplings.

Some of our Volunteers had visited the school classrooms and interacted with the

students and made them aware of importance of trees and adverse effect of deforestation and

played the games which tests their knowlegde.

* Interaction with students *

We also planned an event of GIS mapping. A geographic information system (GIS) is

a system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of

geographical data. We have mapped the main centers and places like temples, ponds, schools,

anganwadi centers, water plants, ration depots, milk booths, churches and shops of the

village. All the locations were uploaded in street maps. For this our students used MAPS.ME

app. Due to this program the information of the important places of that village became

available.so those who visits the place for first time can easily identify the addresses in the

village. This information is also helpful for surveys etc…

As the day’s occasion is Gandhi Jayanthi, at panchayat office we decorated our

Gandhiji photo with garland and have some speech by Dr P Yellamma (program officer)

and faculty members. Then we went to school and decorated the statue of Gandhi and our

volunteers shared their feelings about the day.

A small interactive session with students of ZPH school to not to use plastic and

keep their premises clean and hygiene.

In Recent Times plastic usage has been increasing abruptly, so we decided to

create awareness on it. Plastic bags are cheap and light weight so people are interested to

use these plastic bags rather than cloth bags which are costlier than plastic.

* Removing Plastic Materials *

So, we decided to create awareness that environment is much more valuable than

anything else. As a part of Swacch Bharat we collected all the plastic materials that are

thrown across the roads.

All the volunteers were divided into groups by the program officer with a faculty

along with them and went in four directions of CHIRRAVURU, to ensure that the

volunteers covered most of the village premises.
