Updating UA database with LinkedIn data.

The following procedures require working from a recent list of tracing/lost grads in the database.

1. Log in to LinkedIn using the Laurentian University Alumni Association profile Login: alumni@laurentian.ca Password: laurentian2012

2. In the search bar, type Laurentian University and click on the result next to Universities. 3. On the yellow “Edit this page” button, click the arrow and then “View all students and alum-

ni”

4. From this search page, start going through your list of names. 5. If more than one results shows up, you will need to determine a correct match based on in-

formation from the database if available (such as occupation related to their education, their location, graduation year, a middle initial, etc.) or information on the user’s LinkedIn profile.

6. Once a proper match is determined, and depending on what is available on the profile, update the person’s phone numbers, current occupation, email, address.

7. The person’s LinkedIn profile link should be saved in ODEM.

8. If you were able to get a phone number, address and email, congrats, you are done with that contact. You can remove the lost or tracing tag.

9. If all you have is an email address, send a message asking for the other pieces of information. 10. If you have an address and nothing else, prepare a letter (from template) and send out. 11. If you have a phone number, call and ask for the other pieces of information using the pro-

vided script.

What if: You couldn’t find anything on LinkedIn?

Google• Research their name and business (where

applicable) listed in the Database• Look for their email address on the

corporate website* Last resort: Call the business and ask to

speak to the individual directly, use the provided script.

Canada411.caCheck to see if the person’s address & phone number correspond with the Canada 411 information• Look up the person’s name ▶ If there are multiple names, look at the cities and try and narrow it down ▶ If there are less than five potential matches, call them all using the provided script.
