1.0 Introduction)ata mining is the practice of automatically searching large stores of data to disco#er patterns

and trends that go beyond simple analysis* )ata mining uses sophisticated mathematical

algorithms to segment the data and e#aluate the probability of future e#ents* )ata mining is

    also 8no7n as +no7ledge )isco#ery in )ata*

)ata mining is a po7erful tool that can help one find patterns and relationships 7ithin a data*

But data mining does not 7or8 by itself* It does not eliminate the need to 8no7 the business9

to understand the data9 or to understand analytical methods* )ata mining disco#ers hidden

information in the data9 but it cannot tell the #alue of the information to an organi:ation*

2.0 The Scope of Data Mining

)ata mining deri#es its name from the similarities bet7een searching for #aluable business

detecting fraudulent credit card transactions and identifying anomalous data that could

    represent data entry 8eying errors*

    3.0 Application in Pharmaceutical industry

,he applications of data mining in Pharmaceutical industry is increasing9 considering the

enormous number of drugs in research and in the mar8et9 and all the attributes associated 7ith

    them li8e the pharmaco8inetic properties9 pharmacological response9 dose9 dosages9

contraindications9 7arning etc* Such huge data 7ill surely find an application in )ata mining*
