DRYING TIME

> Can be up to 3-4 days to fully cure depending ontemperature and conditions.

> The product may remain slightly soft for a further period depending on climatic conditions, this is not detrimentalto the waterproofing qualities of the product.

> Allow to dry before following with successive coats.

WATER REPELLENCY

> Rainfall immediately after application has no adverse effect.

IMPORTANT

> Britannia Polyshield 10 is not recommended for thetreatment of fish or aquatic ponds or internal use.

> Air conditioning vents should be sealed for a minimumof 24 hours during and after the application.

> MINIMUM FINISHED FALL: when using this product it isimportant that a minimum finished fall of 1:80 isachieved, as stated in BS 6229.2003 (Code of Practice forthe application of Liquid Applied Waterproofing Systemsto flat roofs with continuously supported coverings).

> If there is an impermeable layer within or below theconcrete surface, contact Britannia’s Technical ServicesDepartment for application requirements.

TYPICAL SPREADING RATES

Minimum topcoat/m2

SMOOTH - Asphalt/Carrier membrane/ 1.0 lt single ply

INTERMEDIATE Worn mineral felt 1.25 lt

ROUGH - Heavy mineralised felt 1.5 lt

Spreading rates may vary depending on type andcondition of substrate, environment and so on.These examples are intended only as a guide.

SPRAYING RECOMMENDATION:

> Heavy duty Airless Spray equipment such as a GRACO Gmax 11 5900 HD airless sprayer.

> Can be Sprayed at an atomising pressure of 2000-2500psi with a Tip size of 28-32 Thou using a 3/8 inch hose upto 30 metres Max length.

> Use an in line filter no finer than 20-30 Mesh.> DO NOT THIN POLYSHIELD 10.> Apply at a minimum coverage rate of

0.5Lts/Square metre per coat. > Clean Equipment after use with White Spirit.

AFTER: A SEAMLESSWATERTIGHT FINISH WITH A

TEN-YEAR LIFE EXPECTANCY

BEFORE POLYSHIELD 10

PREPARATION OF SUBSTRATE

> Ensure the substrate is free from old plant and debris> Cut all brick chases if required> The outlets and gutters must be free from obstruction

Do all your dirty work before cleaning!

CLEANING OF SUBSTRATE

> Clean the substrate with minimum 2,000 psi power wash> If needed clean the area with Britannia Fungicidal Wash.

This eliminates all moss/algae. The wash must beapplied and left on the substrate for 7 days, then washedoff prior to the application.

> The substrate must be dried off using squeegees/rags.Gas guns should not be used.

> Once the substrate is clean and dry you can then beginthe application.

PRIMING

Whilst the majority of roofing substrates to be treated willnot require priming, the following will.

Highly porous/friable surfacesConcrete and asbestos cladding, sheeting and gutteringshould be primed with Britannia Polyshield Primer (seeseparate technical data sheet) prior to over-coating withPolyshield 10.

These surfaces should be jet washed prior to applyingPolyshield 10.

Concrete and masonryPrime with Polyshield Primer.

Plywood and Wooden SubstratesPlywood, wooden substrates and insulation board must betreated with Britannia Reinforcing Scrim to create acontinuous surface before commencing with the applicationof Britannia Polyshield Primer (see separate technical datasheet) prior to over coating with Britannia Polyshield 10.

Unpainted WoodPrime with Polyshield Primer.

Bituminous or asphalt surfacesPrime with Britannia Polyshield Primer and reinforce withscrim as appropriate.

Note: discolouration may occur over a new asphalt, tar orbitumen surface. An extra coat may therefore be requiredfor decorative purposes only. Aged bitumen can be liableto crack, therefore further advice should be taken.

MetalAll ferrous metals should be primed with BritanniaMetal Primer.

LeadRequires no primer.Do not use on new lead.

Aluminium, Copper and Galvanised SteelThese should be primed with Britannia 1 PackEtching Primer.

EPDM surfacesUse Britannia EPDM Primer before applying BritanniaPolyshield 10.

Previously painted or coated substratesIT IS GOOD PRACTICE TO INSPECT AND CARRY OUTADHESION TESTS ON ANY EXISTING COATING ORSUBSTRATE PRIOR TO APPLICATION OF THE COATING.

Splits, Cracks, Joints, Seals and Crazed areas (up to 1/4 inch)Pay particular attention to clean out any splits/cracks/joints,seals and crazed areas by scraping or brushing off with astiff bristle brush before applying the Britannia PolyshieldPrimer prior to the application of a coat of BritanniaPolyshield 10. Repair all faults in the surface by using ahigh quality proprietary waterproof filler.

Large cracks (greater than 1/4 inch)Pay particular attention to clean larger cracks by scrapingor brushing off with a stiff bristle brush prior to applyinghigh quality proprietary waterproof filler with EPDM tooverlap the existing roof.

Scrim recommendationsFor most surfaces, Polyshield 10 should be applied withoutscrim - but for bitumen/asphalt some reinforcement will benecessary. If you have any questions about scrim usage, please contact our Technical Services Department.

APPLICATION OF COATING

To the dry and cleaned surface, apply a generous coat ofBritannia Polyshield 10 by brush, roller, squeegee or airless spray at the specified spreading rate as stated underthe heading.

Application temperature should be between 5°C - 25°C. DO NOT APPLY to frozen or damp surfaces. DO NOT APPLY in hot direct sunlight or coating may skin.

Spreading rate unreinforced over metal: 0.8 litres persquare metre (includes both coats).
