Data Scientist is a trending job of the 21st century. Data Science is the study of the generalizable extraction of knowledge

from data. Being a data scientist requires an integrated skillset spanning mathematics, statistics, machine learning,

databases and other branches of computer science along with a good understanding of the craft of problem formulation

to engineer effective solutions. There is a huge difference in collecting raw data and using that data in a comprehensive

and structured way. The latter is harder and that is why there is a growing demand for professionals who have the

required knowledge of data assimilation along with the knowledge of tools and algorithms that will help decode

patterns. At Gujarat University, the Five Year Integrated M.Sc. in Data Science Program leading to a Masters Degree in

Data Science has been carefully designed to nurture young, enthusiastic and disciplined minds to learn and hone the

necessary skills to become a highly skilled and effective data scientist. The program draws in scholarly content in the

areas of mathematics, statistics, computers, computer programming and coding, professional skills, communications.

Students in the program will learn concepts, techniques and tools they need to deal with various facets of data science

practice. Emphasis will be placed on integration and synthesis of concepts and their application to solving problems. The

students will be applying their interdisciplinary subject knowledge and integrate them in their project and field work. We

    welcome you to Gujarat University!

A data scientist is someone who asks unique, interesting questions ofdata based on formal or informal theory, to generate rigorous and usefulinsights. It is likely to be an individual with multi-disciplinary training incomputer science, business, economics, mathematics, statistics, andarmed with the necessary quantity of domain knowledge relevant to thequestion at hand. The potential of the field is enormous, for just a fewwell-trained data scientists armed with big data have the potential totransform organizations and societies. In the narrower domain ofbusiness life, the role of the data scientist is to generate applicablebusiness intelligence.
