GAIA-X in the City of Vienna
18
Targets
The City of Vienna actively supports the Smart
Cities domain within GAIA-X to implement the
following requirements:
• Leveraging the cost and effort benefits of cloud-based solutions for municipalities as well
• Ensuring data sovereignty and creating trust
• Implementation of standards for data models and interfaces - avoidance of the creation of isolated solutions
• Urban Data Space & Digital Twin of the City of Vienna: Integration of private, commercial and public data
• Leading principles: Open X (Data, Source, API, Standards, Documentation)
https://www.data-infrastructure.eu/GAIAX/Navigation/EN/Home/home.html
Digital Twin of the City of ViennaData are the foundation for a digital twin
19
• The sustainable merging or linking of the data resources provided within the framework of the Data Excellence Strategy is an essential building block on the way to becoming a digitization capital.
• Since the city is constantly changing and evolving, the goal is not a finished product, but the creation of the open infrastructure, as well as the ongoing improvement of the applicability of the already excellent data basis.
• The Digital Twin of the City of Vienna should therefore be implemented as a flagship project within the framework of the VIENNA 2030 strategy, in which the technological basis is created in cooperation with science and at the same time brought to life on the basis of concrete use cases.
• The path to the Digital Twin also requires a paradigm shift in interdepartmental collaboration based on data.
Digital Twin of the City of ViennaVision
20
The Digital Twin of the City of Vienna is a living digital image of the city that allows existing processes in the city to be monitored, new data to be generated, planning to be simulated in scenarios and thus better decisions to be made on the basis of data.
As a result, it offers high added value for internal task completion and cooperation with the population, business and science.
Digital geoTwin > City Information Model (CIM) for planning and simulationContext
21
• The city survey is working on the "Digital geoTwin" - and has decided to use the prefix “geo” for the neologism to emphasize the geodetic and geometric aspect of the creation of semantic 3D geo-objects.
• It is thus a nucleus of a comprehensive Digital Twin of the City of Vienna.
• By linking the objects of the Digital geoTwin with other data and information, e.g. demographic and socio-economic data, energy consumption and maintenance management, sensor data and real-time data of the Internet of Things, a CIM is created as the basis of a "living" Digital Twin of the City of Vienna.
[Eingeschränkt: Magistrat Wien]
Digital geoTwinTarget
Vector-based, semantic 3D city model
for all geoObjects of the city
(buildings, bridges, vegetation, terrain objects, tunnels,
street furniture, water bed, ...)
based on city survey data
derivation of geobasis data from the Digital geoTwin
Advantage
Coherence in time and content between the
Digital geoTwin and all derived geobasis
products in the City of Vienna
Linking with business databases
Permanent linking of geoObjects with business data
+ Independent processing of data sets
+Verification of data consistency (in both
directions)
Additional information for fact database from geometry
e.g. volume, enclosing areas, solar potential, storeys,
tree height, biomass, ...

UseCases
Planning
Now: Creation of 3D data in planning processes is file-based
many data formats / sometimes georeferenced missing
Target: Central database for planning
• Continuous support during planning processes
• Georeferenced planning data
Benefit:
+ Advanced simulation of effects on the cityscape,
microclimate (wind, solar radiation, ...)
+ Public relations / citizen participation

UseCases
Simulation
Interest in the impact of events on urban habitats.
area-wide / small-scale analyses
Szenarien
• e.g. wind flows, solar potential, shadow effects,
flooding scenarios, impact of disruptive events
Advantages
+ Effects of planning can be calculated in advance
+ Relationship between simulation results and linked
databases
