As the U.S. healthcare system transitions from consumption- and volume-based paradigms to quality- and value-based care models, each segment of the healthcare system is under pressure to deliver better care and financial performance.

In this post-Affordable Care Act (ACA) landscape, where consumerism and consolidation have become the norm, healthcare leaders must adapt to a host of new challenges, yet their core responsibility is to ensure that their organizations are providing the highest quality and most cost-effective care possible. More and more, they are relying on data to help focus their resources – but too often, these data do not paint the entire picture, nor do they create actionable insights.

The power to transform the way care is deliveredQuest Diagnostics has partnered with cloud-based analytics and technology company Inovalon® to develop Data Diagnostics to drive actionable insights for patients, clinicians, healthcare executives, lab directors, and insurers.

Data Diagnostics is a suite of member-specific analyses that can be ordered on demand by clinicians at the point of care. Data Diagnostics helps identify and address gaps in quality, risk, utilization, and medical history to support

improvements in clinical and quality outcomes and financial performance across every segment of the healthcare system.

Clinicians order the desired Data Diagnostics report from Care360® or their existing electronic health record (EHR). The analyses can be ordered as a stand alone or with other lab orders. The results are then delivered within seconds,* empowering the ordering clinician to take action with their patient at the point of care.

Providing actionable insight at the point of care is as simple as ordering a lab test

Seamlessly incorporated into the workflow of nearly 600,000 clinicians through our Care360 and more than 400 supported EHR platforms, making Data Diagnostics almost effortless for nearly half the healthcare professionals and facilities in the U.S.

Data Diagnostics can be ordered within the existing clinical workflow, making ordering an analysis as simple as ordering a traditional laboratory CBC. The results are returned within seconds* to inform the clinical encounter.

Draws from 2 of the world’s largest datasets of clinical, claims, quality, and laboratory data, including Quest’s 20 billion clinical laboratory test results and clinical datasets on more than 120 million patients from Inovalon

By providing highly targeted, patient-specific insights, Data Diagnostics gives clinicians information they need to reduce the costs associated with duplicative testing and services, minimize administrative burden, and enhance documentation accuracy.

Clinicians can view historical data to better understand patient health history and status, which may assist with faster and more accurate diagnoses

Quality data provide real-time insight into various quality measures to help clinicians take the necessary actions to improve their quality ratings

Waste avoidance data help avoid duplication and unnecessary costs

More precise and accurate documentation leads to fewer rejected claims and ensures regulatory compliance

Data Diagnostics in action: Supporting split-second decisions in the ER

A patient is admitted through the hospital emergency department, where the managing clinician needs to make rapid, well-informed decisions, even when there’s no prior patient history available. The clinician orders a Data Diagnostics report, and almost immediately, the results provide patient information that supports better informed decisions about treatment. The ordering clinician receives important patient insights, such as:

Patient’s medical history, including comorbid conditions

Recent lab tests ordered and clinical results

Patient insurance coverage and prescription formulary access to assist in drug selection

Enable better business decisions for your health system

With chronic condition patients accounting for 86% of the nation’s healthcare costs,2 early identification and management can lead to better outcomes. And as clinicians understand their performance in relation to established quality measures, they can prioritize those activities needed to maximize performance.

Quality data provide real-time insight into various quality measures to help clinicians improve their quality ratings

Historical data help clinicians close gaps in care, with seamless integration at the point of care

Risk score data support provider documentation of accurate disease burden

Eligibility data help clinicians guide patients to appropriate community health programs

Uncover critical insights to improve quality care

Data Diagnostics in action: Effectively managing a diabetic population

A health system needed to implement strict diabetes population management activities to improve quality performance, enhance care coordination, and decrease their costs for providing diabetes care. To support these initiatives, the health system made Data Diagnostics reports available to clinicians. With their clinicians leveraging point-of-care insight the health system met their cost-containment goals. Data Diagnostics provided important information to make timely decisions, including:

Full patient histories of each diabetic patient so that care plans are more informed and optimized, and unnecessary activities are avoided

Quality assessments of diabetic patients to help close gaps in quality performance

Eligibility data on diabetes support programs so that all available resources can be maximized to improve care

Maximize accuracy to maximize reimbursement potentialClinicians often have limited insight into all of their patients’ disease and comorbidity status, and little time or expertise in risk score coding accuracy requirements. This misalignment can significantly impact the accuracy of documentation, associated claims data, risk score accuracy, and related reimbursement.

Historical data provide clinicians with a complete understanding of historical, current and predictive disease burden

Risk score data provide in-depth risk scores of a specific patient within the relevant risk score model to ensure accurate documentation of disease burden, leading to appropriate reimbursement

Data Diagnostics in action: Increased accuracy leads to increased reimbursements

Inaccurate clinician reporting was causing a health system to lose a significant amount of potential reimbursement dollars. For example, several acute patients were treated, but the care provided was inaccurately recorded—so the organization didn’t receive reimbursement for this care. To remedy this situation, the organization made sure clinicians across the health system started using Data Diagnostics to improve the accuracy of their reporting activities. Clinician reporting improved dramatically, leading to an increase in organization reimbursement. Specific data that contributed to these improvements were:

Complete patient history for full view of patient condition and care received to date

Risk-score accuracy gaps to guide accurate reporting of current disease burden or unaddressed/worsening conditions
