The Daniel Hertz Team

welcome

Welcome to the world of Daniel Hertz SA of Switzerland. You have joined a family of people with high expectations who have searched for the ultimate audio equipment to enhance their love of music.

The ultimate test is the test of time. In the early days of audio, products were rela-tively simple, beautiful, and used for many years with enjoyment. Today, we live in an era of mainly disposble products. The “best” is replaced with “next” as soon as it comes out of the box. Not Daniel Hertz.

The Daniel Hertz M7 offers similar perfor-mance to the flagship M1 in a more com-pact form factor without the 18” subwoofer. The luxurious edimoe wood finish is less costly than the piano black used on the M1, M2, and M3 speakers. Thus the M7 provides Daniel Hertz speaker quality of sound and construction in the most afford-able version. Discreet and elegant, the Dan-

iel Hertz M7 is designed to be used as a full range speker in applications where the most powerful bass is not required. The Daniel Hertz M7 is built with by hand with the highest quality of materials, construc-tion and finish, and is designed for decades of trouble-free use.

Daniel Hertz is concerned about the envi-

ronment and uses non-endangered woods like Edimoe, which we obtain from ethical suppliers. Because Daniel Hertz equipment works for decades and is a non-disposable, treasured possession, precious wood is conserved. Like the first great audio prod-ucts, Daniel Hertz designs product mod-els that retain their appeal, performance, value and dignity far into the future.

The Daniel Hertz team and I thank you for your faith and trust in our work. It is our pleasure to assist you at any time now and in the future. Your purchase of the Daniel Hertz M1 speaker is just the beginning of a long relationship. We are at your service.

Sincerely,

Mark LevinsonDirectorDaniel Hertz SA

Overview

Daniel Hertz puts you, our customer, first. Our philosophy is based on quality, simplicity, science and the human heart.

Daniel Hertz components can be used separately with other au- dio equipment, but are optimized to work together as complete systems. The sonic result is carefully tuned to perfection. This level of performance cannot be obtained by accident, i.e. mixing and matching components. The system approach produces the most natural sound, extreme ease of operation, and the highest reliability. Our classical design which is always pleasing to the eye. Daniel Hertz engineers and craftspeople fine-tune the sonic quality of each component with science and the ear.

Until now, people had to choose between systems that had pleas-ing sound but lacked vitality, or systems with more vitality but lacking natural sound. A new series of high efficiency speaker drivers is the foundation of Daniel Hertz systems. It is essential to understand why high efficiency is important. The laws of physics say that the lower the efficiency of a speaker, the more music is turned into heat. Whatever is turned into heat is lost. You cannot get it back with more powerful amplifiers. With Dan-iel Hertz systems, 1 Watt of power produces 100 decibels (dB) of sound pressure level (SPL). This means that most listening levels require only milliWatts of power.

With Daniel Hertz systems, you hear the beginnings of notes, the full body of the sound, the details and harmonics and the most subtle sounds, so you have real con-nection with what the musicians are doing, and you experience what they intend.

The full potential of the Daniel Hertz M7 is obtained with the Daniel Hertz M5 Te-

likos Mono Reference Power Amplifier, designed with high purity in the milliWatt region; the Daniel Hertz M6 1 MegOhms Preamplifier, a new design with ultra-transparent sound; the Daniel Hertz Silver 1 pure silver litz interconnects; and Daniel Hertz Premium 500 speaker cable.

Daniel Hertz is the most advanced au-dio achievement personally designed by Mark Levinson.

Product Description

The Daniel Hertz M7 is a 2 way speaker design using a high frequency compres-sion driver and a 12” woofer. Two chan-nels of power amplification are required for operation. We recommend two Dan-iel Hertz M5 Telikos Mono Reference Power Amplifiers, each mono amplifier driving one M2 speaker, with the Daniel Hertz M6 1 MegOhms Preamplifier as the front end.

The sound of the Daniel Hertz M7 eas-ily fills the largest living room, but is equally enjoyable in a very small listen-ing space.

Hand polished stainless steel driver bezels enhance strength of the driver frame and provide ideal wave temina-tion. All plates, screws and bolts are stainless steel.

Positioning the M7 speakers

The M7 can be placed against a wall or spaced out from the wall. Ideally, the two speakers (left and right) and the listen-ing position should form an equilateral triangle. A dimension of 2 to 3 meters is typical, but can be varied according to the room and the listening area require-ments.

The M7 projects sound across long dis-tances with focused dispersion and very little loss. This makes positioning more flexible than normal speakers. Your Dan-iel Hertz specialist will assist you in ideal placement of your M7 speakers.

Video Sound: Surround vs Stereo

A pair of Daniel Hertz M7 speakers pro-vides incredible home theater sound. While surround sound attempts to create more involvement, the M7 provides a qual-ity of sound - clarity, better dialogue, dy-namics and punch - that most surround sound systems cannot begin to approach. People find that two M7 speakers far sur-pass what most surround sound systems do with regard to reproducing video sound tracks. While M7’s can be used in a sur-round sound format, most listeners find that it just isn’t necessary, and enjoy the simplicity and elegance of having a pair of M7’s wthout a processor, additional cables, and more amplifiers and speakers clutter- ing the room..

Connections to the amplifiers

Two channels of power amplification are required for the M7. Connect the red (+) and black (-) terminals of the M7 to the red (+) and black (-) terminals of the power amplifier(s).

To hear the full sonic potential of the M7, use them with a pair of Daniel Hertz M5 TELIKOS Mono Reference power amplifiers and the Daniel Hertz M6 1 MegOhms Preampli-fier. Daniel Hertz Silver 1 interconnect cables and Premium 500 speaker cable match the transparency of the M7.

Compatibility with other power amplifiers

Daniel Hertz M7 speakers are extremely efficient. Only 1 Watt of power produces 100dB of acoustic output (8 Ohms, 1M). Most people rarely use more than 1 Watt of power with the M7 speakers, needing milliWatts, not Watts of power for listening pleasure. In general, solid state power amplifiers do not excel in the milliWatt region. Vacuum tube amplifiers are often better suited to low power applications but suf-fer from other limitations such as damping factor, limited output current, and noise. The Daniel Hertz M5 offers ex-ceptional performance in the milliWatt range with almost unlimited headroom and zero audible noise, as well as high reliability.

of notes. The distortion is so low that it is easy to turn the volume up too high. Don’t be surprised if you start listening and then turn down the volume. Listening on the M1 is different from other speakers.

Feel free to turn up the volume to very high levels if you wish. Most people do not dare to turn up the volume, as they think the speaker will break. But if you continue

to turn up the volume slowly, a lit-tle at a time, you will discover that it is possible to generate

enormous sound pressure lev-els without stress or distortion.

For playing at loud volume levels, choose music that is in-

tended to be played like that. For example, a pop track like “Burn”

by Usher sounds incredible at very loud levels. A solo piano recording

Operating notes Keep the volume control of the pream-

plifier at OFF when the system is not being used, or at a very low level.

Raise the volume to the desired level. The M7 can play with extreme power. It is better to raise the volume than to lower it!

People often play the M7 at subjectively lower volume levels than other systems. This is due to the high level of detail and resolution, and the ability of the M7 to

capture the peaks and be-ginnings

by Artur Rubinstein will sound terrible played at such a level. Find the appropriate level for the music you want to hear. Keep in mind that the M7 will do things that other speakers cannot do.

After listening a high volume levels, remember to turn down the volume control! Otherwise, you might scare yourself (and your neighbors) when you play the next selection.

The M7 is friendly to a much wider variety of recordings than most speak-ers. Vintage recordings can come to life. Historical material becomes a new listening experience. Pop tracks can be reproduced at studio levels. You hear all the details in DVD and Blu-ray sound tracks. Compressed mu-sic files can sound remarkably good. The M7 is full of surprises.

Music can be enjoyed anywhere in the room. You do not have to sit in a particular spot for musical enjoyment. For the ulti-mate listening experience, the ideal listening position is on center, 2M to 4M from the speakers. The M7 projects the sound all the way to the back of the room so you do not have to sit close to hear all the details. Listening closer to the M7 provides a more intimate experience.
