Horace Mann Arts and Science Magnet Middle School has a
wonderful dance department. The department has four main sections
Dance I , Dance II , Dance III , and Dance Ensemble. Traci Presley
& Olympia Smith are the two dance teachers. In Dance I ,
students learn two different forms of dance Jazz & Ballet. You
learn the beginning techniques of Jazz & Ballet. You learn all
the feet positions and more. In Jazz in the beginning its all just
fun and games. But things get very serious ! Jazz is very difficult
, but in my opinion its not as structured as Ballet. Jazz is a more
free form of dance . Ballet is very structured and complex , its
also very graceful. In Dance II , students build on what they
learned in Dance I . Dance I is basic and Dance II is the
Intermediate section of dance. In Dance II students also learn the
same types of dance Jazz and Ballet. In Dance II students also
learn about the vocabulary from Jazz and Ballet . Students also
learn about the diverse history of dance. In Dance III , students
also build on what they learn in Dance I & Dance II .Dance III
is the advanced course at Mann . In Dance III , you review history
and dance techniques from Dance I & Dance II. You also focus a
little bit more on choreography . Dance Ensemble is by far the most
advanced . In Dance Ensemble students really focus on performing.
They travel around Little Rock and perform at the school countless
numbers of times. Horace Mann has one of the best school dance
programs in the LRSD.
